... if I took note of everything on here.

The bitterness at departures etc has left the impression that Allen was an over-rated ineffective manager, Sodje a big-head who did nothing after Jan, Pratley a waste of space to whom Swansea are welcome, Owusu a useless drain on resources, Nelson dodgy... to say nothing of (arguably more justifiable) attacks on Brooker, Willock etc

Only Tabb, Turner, O'Connor and (usually) Frampton seem to escape criticism

With only 4 decent players it's amazing how we did what we did:fishing:

I know it's a board for opinions, but the attitudes displayed by many certainly wouldn't make us seem a nice club to be joining - though I'm sure it plays little or no part in whether players join us

There's a lot of mentalism, however long term bees have every right to be psychologically damaged.

i think we got to third, because the players realised that they'd all be replaced if we went up, but with a cunning bonus structure that rewarded play-off failure as well as promotion, they were quids in....

hi
IAgree..there's too much negativity on these boards.I am of course really dissappointed we didnt go up but it was still a great season.Of course some players dont live up to expectations but i would be delighted if we made the play-offs again this season

Sounds about right to me! :D

Seriously though, how we finished third when we played so badly from February onwards, probably says more about the poor quality of the divison last season and the inconsistency of the sides around us.

We had a decent season, including the memorable cup win over Sunderland, but the disappointment of watching one lazy, cowardly display after another does bring out bitterness and anger.

Tabb, Turner, O'Connor and Frampton were faultless. Utterly committed.

Owusu wasn't quite good enough, but again, gave his all.

Newman was a fecking disgrace. Pratley almost useless.

Brooker, Willock and Sodje will be given another chance, but patience is wearing very thin.

Allen has proved a big disappointment, his behaviour ridiculous. Tactically he was always naive, and some of his signings seriously backfired, but these were forgiven as he gave total commitment. Without that he was just another second-rate manager.

We're not a big club, and recognise the fact, but don't put up with lazy toerags taking the plss at our expense. Allen is a good example of the supporters patience, he won't find the crowd so forgiving at his next club.

I don't like moaners, there's a bloke that sits behind me who'll get a punch on the nose one of these days, but sometimes the truth must be told.

I think its more a case of people realising the squad needs considerable surgery.

If we kept the back five together - unlikely re Sodje, in which case a comparable (ie pacy) replacement would be required (not easy!) - plus Tillen and Owusu, IMHO we need 4 players for 1st team action.

Massive task to replace Tabby, our only playmaker. We need to replace his heart as well as the player.

Charles may come through this year, been very impressed with him. The other 1st year pros i`ve not seen enough of.
Probably "make or break" seasons for Rhodes and Peters.

So basically we need to rebuild the midfield and find at least one goalscorer, this will be a lot easier for the new manager to sort out if he manages to shift some of the contracted deadwood.

Its a bit of a mess but with some good wheeling and dealing, couple of loanees and a bit of luck, there could yet be hope for next season....... :sorted:

The problem is that we were top and cruising with three months to go and then ****ed it away with relegation form and repeated mistakes in team selection and tactics. In the last quarter of the season we were dreadful, relegation form, and that's what people recall. Most fans reacted by buying next season's season ticket, the manager reacted by running away from the challenge.

It was a very very poor division this year too, I didnt get to see many bees games but I watched what I could on Sky of league One games and the standard was rank...I would go as far to say p*** poor. I had it in mind that if you cant get out of the division during this season you never would, it was there for the taking.

We all had a bit of emperors new clothes about us, seeing the position in the league as opposed to the standard of our play, I think we got a bit little headed on our elevated position, not realising that everyone was falling about us, and we joined in rather than capitalising.

I realise that this may sound like a degree in hindsight, but from January I was saying to my mates at work that we were not so much cream of the crop, but the floater in the pan!

come on - we all forgave Allen and his team for the results despite the performances.

Agreed - this season the division was poor and with the squad of players we had and the budget Allen was given we should have walked the league.

SOmeone remind me - we were 2 points clear of Col U with 2 games in hand towards the end of the season weren't we? and someone remind me - what lessons were learnt from last minute equalisers by Blackpool and Hartlepool (at home - v relegation strugglers) in games we bossed but (tried to) defend 1-0 leads (and we certainly did not have the legendary Arsenal back four and our back 4 would think that catanaccio is a starter in a Gordon Ramsey restaurant).

the only consolation for this season - is that i do feel that i have some proper preparation and training for the World Cup disappointment that we will no doubt suffer soon...

Living in Watford, I heard much the same comments about the Championship. Aidy Boothroyd became a hero because his team delivered when it mattered but his team also played some rank bad stuff during the season.

One thing that you might wish to note is that Watford went up with the 4th lowest playing budget in the championship - £3.5m before bonuses (rumoured to be £5m plus after). What hope would we have had with a £1.2m budget.

It's part and parcel of being a football fan I'm afraid. When it was rumoured that Stevie G was going to leave Liverpool, there were no end of Liverpool fans saying he was over-rated, that they weren't a one man team and that the team would be better off without him... would love to ask those fans now what they think, given that Liverpool ARE a one man team!

Is it just me, the accrued years of disappointments, my personal slide into decrepitude coupled with my discovery of the web, but was this one of the most stressful half seasons ever?
