That Ron Noades bought Brentford FC from David W£BB for £650,000. At least we found out what his version of “funding the club” was.

Your thoughts and memories, ladies and gents.

Seemed to start well on the pitch, signed some cracking players for that level (Owusu, Mahon, Evans, Folan & Rowlands despite later problems, Powell, Hermann, Boxall).

And then post-promotion it all went wrong entirely because of that cretin...…………..

Didn't he leave the humiliation against Kingstonians early on police/security advice? A LOT of understandable anger that day as I recall, not just about the result.

I had a lot of anger at the time, but the present and future is on a different planet to those days. The bloke is dead and so are my memories of that horrible time for our football club.

He bought a great squad of players and achieved promotion.
Gave himself a good pat on the back.
Racked up the costs against BFC to keep his own ££££ safe.
Thought he could sell our home to pay for the debts and cream off the rest
for his retirement whilst dumping us in Woking.

It was a great time for a year although I always had my concerns and 'He's got white hair, He's a millionaire' quickly became 'He just don't care'. Horrid, horrid time for the club and supporters although we certainly united against him.

Bought our club when we had no debt to speak of (singing the praises of W£bb for his astute husbandry). Tried to take us to Woking. Then, having said he'd fund the club for 3 years, sold the club saddled with big debts!!!

Some great memories on the footballing front to be fair and it did all end up leading to Bees United and Sir MB I suppose.

When he first arrived I thought he was a sugar daddy as "moneybags" Brentford bought their way out of the fourth division. After the first year I was concerned with the amount of players we were buying, there seemed to be one a day joining. I remember at the time saying that we keep buying these players for fifty grand, they go straight into the first team squad the next Saturday and look out of their depth before being put in the stiffs before we are told they are one for the future. If they are one for the future why did we put them straight into the first team, he looked to me like we didn't have a clue if they were good or not.

We did buy some damn good players and the first season was fantastic as we bought our rivals best players like Partidge and LFW to knock them off their stride. The next few years were pretty good as we pushed for promotion again and I couldn't understand the negative feeling towards RN who appeared to be doing a brilliant job and spending all his money. Then the truth started to come out and it all went horribly wrong. I still don't know whether it was good but misguided intentions, a completely reckless gamble with someone else's money or whether he was trying to line his own pockets.....maybe a bit of all.

Interesting that this topic should crop up - just a couple of days ago I was tempted to post a South London press cutting I found which had headlines of 'Palace could leave Selhurst Park', saying that Noades was threatening to take Crystal Palace out of the borough and accusing the council of driving them away...

On a lighter note, what a time for inventive and unique Brentford chants it was as well! Hate Corner in full swing, Lulu, Rawhide/Rowlands, Boxall/Flintstones, probably wont see (or hear) those days again regularly :(

We were the ultimate vanity project.

Noades swanned around and took all the credit whilst Lewington and the other coaches did all the work.

Ghastly man who ultimately did his best to harm us when fans caught onto his tricks and plans.

Remember it but, due to having three young’uns, it’s not a period I would say was stuck in my memory. I wasn’t that interested in the goings on although it was a crap period. With Lange selling cheaply to We££, who in turn was then selling the good players for his own pocket, and then selling the Club to Noades at a price for himself to walk away as a millionaire. Then Noades did a Dunnett and bought the best he could. Lumped all the debt onto the Club. Decided Woking or Kingston was the future, by selling GP and probably skimming off a chunk for himself. Then the change of fortune and the demise of the Club which was left to BU to deal with. Thankfully, the Club was saved by a number of supporters and outsiders and here we are. :)

From 1995 to 2005, the three kids came first, although I went to GP, away games were a no no. :sueme:

I worked with a Palace supporter at the time and he said what a menace Noades was. He wasn't wrong.

Seeing the phrase in bold above brings out shivers...two parasites on our club who nearly killed us, merely to line their own pockets.

Another reminder (not that we should need one!) of just how fortunate we are with MB.

Immediately invokes a memory of seeing Ron Noades for the first game in charge walking into the then Centenary Club with a piece of toast in one hand, looking around for a good a couple of seconds without saying a word and then walking back out again. That and Herman's one man show versus Cardiff. It all went downhill pretty much after that....

It has to be a simple "No Comment" from me, since I have a cast-iron rule never to speak ill of the dead.

And I'm not going to break it now, even for a total s h i t like Noades.

I wrote to Ron Noades, way back and during his tenure. Still got his long written letter and reply. Went and saw him down in Whyteleafe too, where we had our training ground, which is now a golf course.

**** him, someone will remember the full story but I believe either him or his wife (or both!) phoned Brentford fans to boast they were putting the club into administration.

Some brilliant memories from his first season:

WBA at home
Andy Scott's goal at WHL
Peterborough away and Folan's goal
Folan from the half way line V Cambridge
Cardiff at home
Southend away
Swansea at home
Cambridge away

and then continuing the run into the next season...

Evo's goals from the halfway line...

Obviously it all went horribly sh*t after that and Noades' intentions soon became clear
Southend away

The day he was announced as our owner a great many, including me, were posting happy positive stuff. I remember thinking he was a hard-nosed football man who would sort us out and we would be kicking on to greater things. It was all a bit tragic in the end, a great many clubs have been turned over by grasping owners and we could easily have been put out of business or relocated god knows where. But for MB...........

lol I take it that was intentional

I met his daughter and harry bassets daughter (they we’re good friends) at a pub in Manchester circa 1998 or 1999 and was raving what a legend noades was. Oops

Is that all, just 20 years? Wow.

I expect it's all pretty well chronicled on here then.

I remember being ecstatic seeing the new signings play, Owusu, Rowlands, Herman, Folan, Partridge, Boxhall.

As a teenager at school I was over the moon, years of being teased for supporting Brentford and I finally thought Noades had saved us and was going to lead us up the leagues. I'd finally be able to give it back to the RaRa supporters...

What a total ****. I don't normally speak ill of the dead but fck him, he deserves it...

I was taken in early doors, but warned by an old friend from Southall who said he'd shaft us and he did, dead or alive he will always be a James Hunt. I never at the time imagined we would be where we are now.

Most of us were taken in at the start, as, and I think Noades said so himself, that we as fans would have welcomed anyone because it wasn't W£bb.

Why can’t you speak ill of the dead?

It’s is generally viewed as disrespectful. Partly as they have no opportunity to defend themselves. No real need it’s like kicking a kitten.

RIP Harold shipman you old japing scoundrel you !

He's still about. I don't think he Lu Lu's much these days though. Have to say the terraces were much more fun in the 80's and 90's.

Weeeeeeeeeeeeelllllllllllllllllll...........you know I miss that
