My taking of him since he joined us is; he can't run, he lacks speed and he doesn't close down the defence well enough, he looks like he is carrying to much weight and probably not fit enough yet, I do hope this is the reason for it. At this present time, I cannot see the 'money' we paid for him, I hope I am wrong and he proves otherwise, but to me he is nothing more than a target man which really isn't our way, time will tell and he will have game time to prove me wrong. Just my opinion without all the hype and the blar blar blar.
Well you know **** all about football. Your taking is not very accurate. Did you see the game against ww or were you getting sosd at the pub again? I tell you what I saw. I saw a player that has barely been at the club a week, a player that needs to gel with his team mates. The team chosen was one that lacked some of our international players. When we were defending corners Toney was there helping out at the back. Have you seen the clips of some of the goals he scored last season? Always best to put the brain in gear first.

Everyone is entitled to their own opinion, but I have read loads of message board posts/tweets from Peterborough fans who reckon Toney is better than Asombalonga, Mickail-Smith & Arron McLean and that’s 3 very decent strikers they’ve had in recent years .. you can’t judge after one League Cup game

Let the boy play a couple of games, get match fit, understand our style of play, start understanding how his team mates perform then we can all make a realistic judgment

For now I am happy to rely on Phil and Ras who have a pretty good record! B

Watched Ollie’s goals from last season back. 2 were 1 on 1s from through balls where his speed took him away from the defence. Watched Toney’s goals, also scored two in that fashion. I never had Ollie down as the quickest player in the team, pacey yes, but not Rico quick. Neither rely on pace for goals, which is what they are both in the team for. Toney will be a very good player for us.

Wow, bloke's played around 90 odd minutes, has only been with us just over 1 week, and hasn't played a competitive game since March.

God help us if we lose on Saturday and he doesn’t score! Meltdown time on GPG which would be the earliest we have had in what 25/30 years🤣
Surely he has to score Saturday, it’s a massive game, probably a six pointer

It's the one that could make or break Frank's tenure here, I understand.

Living in Cambridgeshire on Posh's doorstep and working with Posh fans I've seen and heard a lot about Toney, he is a class act and will show his worth, I know the old cliche' "football is all about opinions" is always bandied about but really the opinion of Mr. Beeswaxness is just insulting to Ivan and our excellent D.O.F's

Not that long- the earliest must have been 2004 when we’d had a lot of excitement about our first full season under Martin Allen after the great escape and him having a summer to put together a good squad. Lost first game away at Chesterfield 3-1.

It was a lovely sunny day though in the shadow of the crooked steeple.

I was there. Michael Turner made his debut. Looked poor, but he didn’t do too bad for us.

Sorry I don’t get why all those fans who are giving Toney grief. He’s played one competitive game for us and we were not very good there . We all know we will lose Watkins.. Give Ivan Toney some space and time

It was. I liked Saltergate more than their modern box.

The most pathetic post EVER on the GPG. And that's saying something.

Do some people never learn anything beyond walking when they are a baby?

I rhink Toney will be a great player for us. Like others have said he has not played much football since March and will need some time. He will score 25+goals if given the service.

He did appear too easily caught, but that must be down to lack of match fitness. I was impressed by his positional awareness and you could see that he was quite able to reach the height he would normally on headers. I am excited about his contribution this season. His defending was excellent.

The world is his oyster now.

He’ll rightly take note of what we’ve achieved with Gray, Hogan, Maupay and now Watkins.

If he fulfils his potential and contributes to our system, he’ll get a massive money move in the next 24 months.

Of all the points you have listed, it would appear that at present TF might agree with you regarding fitness but if you had not played a meaningful match in six months you might be like that too. I recommend you visit You Tube and search for Peterborough highlights. Some of the goals on there are outrageous. Might be a lower level but you don't have a strike rate like he does without having something about you

Or even better get a big money rise here because he’s part of our premier league squad

I would be happy if IT performs this year at about the level OW did when he first joined. More goals probably than the ten Ollie scored, given he is already an established CF, but likely to take a while to adjust to our style of play and the championship. Expecting him to be a ready-made Ollie replacement is utterly unreasonable.

Agreed, which makes me think that the playoffs would be a great achievement this season. Maupay took two seasons to get going and Watkins took a while to adjust to being a regular goalscorer at this level. The drop-off from Watkins to Toney in Season 1 should take us back a decent wodge of xG, especially if we have to bed in a replacement for Said too. Next year should be more promising in terms of having a more cohesive, fit and experienced squad for challenging for automatic places in our division.

Not sure I totally agree, Good chance that next year Raya and possibly Norgaard, Mbuemo And Henry may be looking at big money moves if they all improve again this season which would mean more change and bedding in than this season

Maupay may be a better comparison as Ollie played wide in his first season. But 10 from wide in his first season ought to translate to 15+ centrally. That level, combined with improvements from the other players who’ve a year more experience in the team and league, plus appropriate tactical tweaks to address our inability to break down negative teams, would be enough to support a top 2 push. If the team works Toney only needs to be as deadly a goalscorer as Bamford.
