The more I hear about Toney the more I am excited about him. Spoke to a scout for a lower league side a couple of days ago and really knows his lower league stuff. His words, Brentford signed Hogan, Gray and Watkins in recent years and one needs to remember all these were signed as League 2 players, Brentford have just signed a player that was player of the year in League 1 and will get goals galore for you but also will be one of your best defenders (this coincides with what I read from Posh fans on social media). I then posed the question if he is that good why no premiership club came in for him - without blinking he noted C-19 has impacted on finances for those Premiership clubs that would take a gamble.

He noted he gets booked easily but learning all the time. I then ask how many goals does he think Toney will get for us. His words play as Brentford do, he will get 20 plus. Also noted looking at the Championship teams, he predicts Toney barring any injuries will be top 3 tops scorers in the league.

I also asked about Goode. He said good defender at lower league but uncertain whether he is Championship ready for a promotion looking club yet but not a bad choice back up to our first choice.

Never ones for hyperbole, Sky, just flashed up that he is our record, at £10m, signing - guess if the add ons hit this may be true but more like £5m for now :)

Not had many touches but been in really good positions. I get the feeling once he gets his first goal there will be a floodgate opening.

agree. most of the final balls into the box have been poor so far today which hasn't helped his cause.

Yep but still has had 3/4 chances and in the right areas. Looks promising :)

Ollie would've run away from the defence for the one on one

Yes, it seems that Toney is a bit of a different style of striker to Watkins. He doesn't look to have the non-stop aggressive running that helped us to counter so quickly. Toney is more of a target man and we will need to get players running beyond him and find other players to make those driving runs from deep. I can't wait to see him playing with our full strength side.

As others have said. Been here a week and not played competitively for 6 months so wiil take a few games to hit his stride. Good positioning and doing the right things. No doubt will sharpen up.

Are you feeling underwhelmed?

Ollie would have missed the penalty rather than completely mug off the sh*thousing keeper with a nonchalant roll into the corner.

Not at all, I'm commenting on his performance. Thought he played well, just one thing I noted.

i actually though it was more a bad touch than lack of pace , on his right side he would have been gone..

My taking of him since he joined us is; he can't run, he lacks speed and he doesn't close down the defence well enough, he looks like he is carrying to much weight and probably not fit enough yet, I do hope this is the reason for it. At this present time, I cannot see the 'money' we paid for him, I hope I am wrong and he proves otherwise, but to me he is nothing more than a target man which really isn't our way, time will tell and he will have game time to prove me wrong. Just my opinion without all the hype and the blar blar blar.

Did you see him last season at all ( clearly not ) right foot , left foot , little chips and dinks , lethal finishing and great in the air.

Please give our wonderful scouting system the credit it deserves..

This sounds like the sorts of comments some made about Vibe when Hogan left, about Maupay when he missed that sitter at Cardiff or indeed about Watkins when we were preparing to start him as a central striker every week. You might be right, in which case it’s going to be a very frustrating season. Or maybe TF and the DoFs have a better eye for this sort of thing.

Although regarding the point about him being a target man, which in my honest opinion he is a lot more than that, I can see him as being another outlet apart from just Henrik when we are being pressed to go long to. I can see him and Bryan swapping positions and Toney winning flick ons to Bryan who has pace to burn :D

I hope too God TF and the DOFs do have a better eye than me and I'm total wrong with my supporter/amateur eyes.

Our scouting system don't need credit the proof is already in the pudding the whole world knows how great they are and I am very proud we have them at our club, but everybody knows it's not 100% full proof otherwise Valencia would be looking to replace Benny if he goes and not be shoved out on loan. Don't nobody get me wrong I haven't written of Toney, It is just my own amateur/supporters view on the player so far since he joined us which obviously a short time.

I think Beeswaxnees needs to work on spelling, punctuation and grammar, but other than that makes some very interesting observations.

Whatever were we thinking of, eh? I saw nothing that I wouldn’t expect from a new, very expensive player. Calm down.

Hope your right, I just think if Frank is going to play the same as last season but minus Ollie/Benny and bring in replacement surely they must have similar or better attributes as the outgoings to sustain the way we play. Ollie's work rate was unbelievable and his closing down of defenders was brilliant and it is this, that lacks SO FAR in Toney, even though it's only been one game, we will see against Birmingham.

Nah you're right on the money here. They havent found anyone of any worth since they arrived so probably best Benham sacks them off and gives you sole recruitment responsibilities I reckon.

Ollie’s closing down of defenders is great and I’m not sure if Toney can replicate it but I don’t see it as massively important as we are not a high pressing team anyway. On the other hand Toney seems to offer more defensively and offensively in the air and at set pieces. Dare I say he may even be an upgrade technically. Look at his Peterborough goals and you will see flicks, tricks, and chips that are more subtle than Ollie’s full throttle style. It’s not a banker that he will be as good but it’s a pretty shrewd gamble, which we are pretty good at.
