Interesting article on why IT could be a real asset for Southgate
Do you know with whom I think he could partner best for England upfront? Well, none other than Ollie Watkins. What a partnership that could be for England.

Agree AB, only better.
He’s got Kane’s football brain and ability along with Lukaku’s pace and power.
The kind of player that dreams are made of.

And he’s a 🐝
🥰🥰🥰🥰
Dare I say it ….. the best all round striker we’ve had since a certain Andy McCulloch pulled on the shirt.
Andy McCulloch and Gary Bissett.
Dream team.
Garys workrate was second to none and he always gave 100%.
More good games than bad and just one of those players who gave the opponents something to think about.
Never forget the day he left.
I thought it would take a long time to see someone similar.
Andy McCulloch is just a true legend.
Lovely bloke and still my hero.
If my wife would allow me too I would put a picture of him on my wall.

Ivan is in this category.

He would get a hat full of goals if he played for Man City this season!

Re Andy Mac, I've got two pics of him on the wall...and the missus doesn't mind.

The big canvas one with the champagne bottle is in the spare room and the small one he autographed for me on day we beat Darlington to go up (22 Apr 78) in the bedroom.😍

I was thinking more that Ivan and Bryan were Andy Mc and Stevie Phillips

I know what you are thinking.
I was just pairing two up.
A fantasy dream team.
In real life it was Andy and Steve and Dean and Bliss.
In my dream team it is Andy Mac and Bliss.
Maybe my 2 favourites over 48 years.

Agreed.
There's definitely a "launch" factor in some of IT's falls though.....

As Micheal Owen said the ref should have given a penalty the corner before for manhandling Toney but didn’t as Ivan stayed on his feet. If refs want to stamp out the falling over and launching as you put it then they need to see the fouls and award free kicks penalties without players having to go to ground

Happy to oblige (see attachment)....hope you can view it OK. We were in the White Horse in Brentford. Also there that day, Len Bond ... and a young Ian Botham who I think was mates with Len due to the West Country connection. I asked Andy to sign the back of the photo, then at a later date bought another pic so I could display both at once.

When the BBBOT Seventies came out and we were able to meet some of the old players, I got him to sign the front of the book with the same dedication. Along with the rest of the players who were there that day of course.

Found out this evening he is only 5 foot 10 😮

Always thought he was at least 6 feet tall due to his aerial prowess. He's starting to draw attention with his performances, I'd expect a big money bid in the summer but be gutted if he left.

Anyone who doubted he could do it at this level (and there are those in the lower league who call him 'tap in Toney', well tonight will have proved it beyond any doubt. Tore the much heralded Liverpool defence a new one. So much so that they just resorted to pushing him over in the second half (fully supported by the useless ref). What a finish too for what would have been the winner. Will be interesting to see just how far offside it was...

I just don't believe he's 5' 10". I reckon they don't bother updating footballer heights once they initially turn professional.

Commentators on the Premier League feed (Optus Aust) were saying its only a matter of time before the big 6 snap him up as he is the complete package :(

60 Million in the January Window?

Enjoy him while we have him I reckon

The guy is world class. Will definitely be in the England squad by the end of the season. Only Kane is ahead of him at the moment.

I love your optimism but he won’t be picked for England while he plays with us Gareth won’t even consider him

Let's wait and see, cannot see how Southgate can ignore him if he maintains his form.
He’s given Bamford and Watkins a go after a full season and if anything doing well for us is a bigger achievement if looking at things from a club size/expectation angle. Toney’s all round play adds another dimension. Or he’ll be off to Jamaica.

I think the main issue stopping Ivan getting a call up anytime soon is the fact England don't often go for direct football.

We are playing to Ivan's strengths beautifully and it is causing teams so many issues, but unless Southgate changes the way England play I just don't see it happening.

It will be the same for Ivan as what happened to Ings. Ignored when you bang in goals regularly for the Burnleys of this world but as soon as you join a "big" club you get an England call even when you're not scoring regularly. Eventually scoring form, and favourable press, will force Southgate to call Ivan up for a friendly against a lesser nation and he'll get ten minutes off the bench.

James Gheerbrant in The Times today:

“Ivan Toney produced a superb performance. He contested 25 duels, giving the usually serene pairing of Joël Matip and Virgil van Dijk one of the sternest aerial examinations they have faced. Of strikers who have played more than 300 minutes this season, no one is winning more duels than Toney’s average of 10.5 a game, but he also has real subtlety and finesse, perhaps best exemplified by the lovely flick off the inside of his foot with which he set up Ethan Pinnock’s opener.

Through six matches, Toney has created nine chances for his team-mates, but what really stands out is the quality, not the quantity, of his creative output. Opta rates four of these as big chances (level with Trent Alexander-Arnold, Michail Antonio, Bruno Fernandes and Allan Saint-Maximin; no Premier League player has laid on more) and gives him a figure of 0.28 expected assists per 90 minutes, bettered among strikers only by Gabriel Jesus. When you consider that Jesus plays for a team who have 66 per cent possession, and Brentford average only 41 per cent, it makes Toney’s creative contribution all the more impressive.”

Personally, I'd prefer Ivan not to be in the England set-up... we want him all to ourselves!
