As a general opinion on here, say he leaves in the summer, how much do we all think he is worth? I think he is easily at least 40m

That is extremely conservative, imo. Call me crazy, but I would rather have him in our team compared to Kane or Lukaku. And they are three years older and are valued at 100m. I would keep him until 2023, where he has two years left on his deal, and I will be dissapointed by our DOFs if they take any less than 75m.

Yeah it was quite Conservative, but I was cautious about saying 60m, as I was going to, but not sure how that would have gone down. In that case, I reckon 65 plus

I don’t think Liverpool would need the defensive side to his game so might go for a different type of player. I could certainly see him at somewhere like Leicester. Let’s hope he stays with us and we provide him with more chances to turn into goals and get his England call up 😊 Although I honestly don’t think it’s far away
Liverpool press high and expect everyone to defend. He’d fit them well and would rarely be called upon to play as deep as he does for us.

I wish people would stop trying to sell our best players. We are in the Premiership now and don't need to!

Every club in the PL barring the top 4 is a selling club. We will be selling as we always have but hopefully not as quickly. And the aim is to have players who’ll be wanted by the top 4 for top money who we’ll have a replacement coming along for. A good season this year may mean we get an extra year of Toney as we can look to move up another level but if we do, he becomes a player who’ll get the £100k a week job for a CL club who can offer him the chance of a PL medal. But let’s enjoy them all while we can.

I know I'm not stupid! I just wish people wouldn't anticipate it with glee.

More likely, he will want to leave for a bigger club
What or who is a bigger club ? Everton - I can’t see that. Nor Aston Villa, Brighton, Southampton, Burnley, Palace, Wolves, Leeds. Hope he would not want to return to Newcastle. My point is that, at the really big clubs (the top 7 or 8) he would not be guaranteed a starting place. For Ivan starting is everything. I thin’ it would take a lot for him to leave, and I think the club would reward him as much as possible to stay. But we would probably also need to show him we were investing in the team to give him more chances.

There budgets are all bigger then ours and we are the smallest team in the league. Whether they can afford our asking price is a different question.

We may be the smallest team in the league but we still spent more than Watford, and spent it well, Norwich spent around 60m I believe and they didn't spend wisely. Even thought their budgets are bigger, we will spend ours more sustainably and maybe have more than them next year, if Toney, Raya and one or two others move on.

True, but nevertheless we will not want star players getting near to the end of their contracts, or heaven forbid going out of contract, therefore the requirement to sell at peak value will always be present.

It's Brentford fans' sport... any player who shows a decent bit of talent or has a really spectacular game or two must generate endless fan speculation about who will buy and how much, especially now we're in the Premier League (not Scotland).

Just out of interest I dug out the YouTube highlights from the game where Ivan missed his last penalty - Peterborough v Barnsley 2018/19. His technique was very different and far more conventional then. The bottle it must have taken to change to such an unusual technique and then use it in a real match is incredible.

The first pen he scored with his current technique was actually his first goal for us away at Millwall

If and when Ivan is called into a future full England squad he will be the first Brentford player to get this accolade since whom and when did this occur?

I've had to Google it so won't answer, but great to see a member of the RAF taking the accolade! (Assuming what I've found is correct).

random thought i had the other day but could barcelona have bought ivan toney instead of braithwaite that time for around the same if not less? I think he would have been a better fit on the whole.

I'm reading a 1987 book on actor Steve McQueen: The Untold Story of a Bad Boy in Hollywood.
The word 'toney' has been used to describe hospitality venues so I decided to look it up -

Toney. Adjective. Informal.
Being or in accordance with the current fashion: à la mode, chic, dashing, fashionable, mod, modish, posh, smart, stylish.

I’m guessing he’ll be out for Friday as well then! sh*t timing for two big games.

Probably won't see him until the Southampton game you would think.

Still the bloke needed a rest and it isn't a long term injury so could be a blessing in disguise long term.

Get behind the lads today :hat:

I suppose Covid is better than an injury. Maybe.

Obviously he's a crucial player for us, but perhaps he's more important when we're playing the better teams, where we need to use the long ball more and his work rate and defensive work are critical. Missing Leeds and Watford...I dunno, it could (and it's a huge could) work in our favour.

Norwich?

As well as today it’ll be Watford and probably Man Utd.

Of course, edited now.

Re Man Utd, I guess potentially as well, but my point was it may do us a favour against the weaker sides (i.e. Leeds and Watford).

Really don’t understand playing Sergi upfront over Forss.

I can only think it’s because as others have said in previous threads we would need to change our formation to get the best out of Forss. That said, like you I’m a bit surprised

Any rest factor will be more than offset by the after effects of the disease I fear.

Appreciate that losing Ivan will result in trying to find an almost impossible solution. By taking Sergi from RWB into a front two with Bryan. Either Wissa is still not match fit or Forss is simply not an option. Injures have forced our hand, but sticking with the same system? What’s the thinking?

The boys will need us more than ever!

Sorry, I’m failing to see any benefit whatsoever. If anything we need him more in the games where we’re more likely to collect valuable points.

He needs a rest at some point and looks to have been carrying a minor knock for some time, right now looks like a disaster but might be a blessing. Forced to rest him and and for him to come back resurgent. Forces us to play less direct too which might get us back to playing some better football.
