No. Past his best, wages too expensive and wouldn't get in the squad.

Close thread.

John Docherty came back. The question should be has he developed since he left us and I would say no. Could we redevelop him ? Probably but is he worth the time and effort ? Again no. Enjoy retirement in Spain and thanks for what you did at GP.

Sometimes with footballers and managers it's horses for courses. They can be great at one club but it just doesn't work anywhere else for some reason. Jota was made for Brentford. Our second best player of all time. On a free? I'd sign him in a heartbeat.

Thanks for the good times. We've moved on.
Yes. But Benrahma might be saying the same thing in a few days time. There's a ready made, unemployed replacement out there who might be available for £8.72 an hour. ;)

The problem really is the difference between what his wages have been for the last 3-4 seasons and what we'd offer him for his role in our squad, which would be a backup. (and yes he'd get in the way of the likes of Fosu and Dervisoglu, but they could be loaned out and benefit from regular games)

He's not gonna get a salary anything like what he's been recently accustomed to, but someone will get closer than we ever would. So, no chance. We'll always have the memories...

No way I’d loan out Fosu

What is it with footballers and salaries? Surely if he's been on around £40k a week for the last 3-4 seasons, money doesn't really matter anymore? I mean that's about eight million quid (less tax and stamps obviously). You think they'd just play where they're happiest after that, surely?

He has had his day and would never reproduce what he done at bfc sorry , no good living in the past Jota would not be good enough now.

Disagree. I reckon he would be brilliant for us again. And I'd bring back Sweetzer and Stevie Phillips at the same time. :)

Gone the same way as Pritchard, 4-5 years ago they were outstanding, now they are just a run of the mill footballers. Just goes to show what we can make players and what they are when they leave us. I suppose the money they have earned helps!!.

Goes into the same bin as Pritchard. If he was anywhere near the player he was when we first had him then would have him back like a shot but he’s a shadow of that player and we’d be better off getting a younger player with potential in

If there was the the smallest glimmer of an inkling that we would have been interested in signing him, then it would have been done before his release. The parrot is dead, it is no more.

I wouldn't be against taking him back on a 12 month deal with a one year option in our favour. Would provide further cover in a shortened season with loads of midweek games, probably allow us to put Dervisoglu out on loan so he gets more gametime than he would get here, and the year option means that if he did perform, we'd be able to cash in next summer.

But I think it's unlikely we'd do anything. Quite well stocked up front, all over the park really now.

It’s weird that he has had his contract terminated? So Villa can’t get any money back for him by selling him and he is walking away from a £40k (estimated) per week contract. Seems to me that both parties lose out unless Jota has another club lined up with a decent contract or he intends to quit or take a break from football?

I assume Villa paid up his contract or at least most of it so if he finds a new club then he will be quids in.

Nope his fires gone
So would mine be if I'd had to play football in Birmingham for years. Probably fed up with dog sh*t on his boots every Saturday. I'm sure a quick 90 minutes at Susan would soon relight his fire. Our club is his only desire. ;)

Just looking at what we have now up front who would you leave out if he'd even make the squad. Great player who I loved. Great memories. Move on not for us now. Mr Warburton might be interested at no cost though.
