If he leaves then we have Goode and Sorenson as our CB back up. Is that enough? Should we be looking at another one? I'm not entirely convinced re Sorenson to be honest though he did do well at AFC by all accounts..

I think the club rate Sorensen. He certainly has the physical attributes

I think if the club is still serious about creating a pathway for first team football for the ones coming through, then the likes of Sorensen, Zamburak & Forss will be given more opportunities this year just as Roerslev did last season.

Shame as hes a decent player and was unlucky to lose his place. Pinnock has been class though.

Indeed, A really stark example of how small the margins are. He was playing pretty well and looked likely to retain his place until a rush of blood led to a red card and three games out. And that opened the door for others and he never got back in again. He never let us down and I hope he gets a good move

I imagine a number of Ligue 1 clubs will be very interested in him.

Agree.

I wonder if our back ups are as good? Especially with Mads and Goode being unproven at our level.

Surprised by this, I thought he was solid.

Fairly average player imo, has never stood out that much to me!

Yes, there seems to be a lot of revisionism in his player thread to say he’s not up to it when he was pretty good and made 50 appearances over two seasons competing against Mepham, Konsa, Jansson and Pinnock- about £50m of CBs! So he was behind them but that didn’t make him bad. The problem is more that he’s close but no cigar so is good enough to get first team football at a similar level whereas Sorenson and Goode are pressing to establish at that level and are a way off finding it frustrating. Although we’ve not seen any particular publicly reported interest I’d expect there to be enough for him to get a decent move and us to get a decent profit.

He was very unconvincing in his first season but started this year well until Pinnock came in and took his place. If the opportunity to sign Jansson hadn’t come up we may well have all been singing his praises right now.

is there more to this? he was playing well as others have attested to, before others came in and he couldn't get back into the team.

maybe he isn't up for another season as understudy, or we feel due to his age we need to move him on sooner than later for his career's sake as well as our own?

Probably a bit harsh but I never saw him as particularly solid. He did a job to be fair but Pinnock is another level, I wonder if Goode is much better? All the best Julian, thanks for the effort.

Agree, but also the bar continues upwards. JJ is probably at his peak where both Goode and Sorensen have potential to improve. The Dofs would appear to be happy with this current situation and that's good enough for me. Also the window is still open, although unlikely we could see another CB signing. And if the worst happened my guess is that we can recall Racic.

Dont think you call recall players from loan these days. It's either a full or half season loan.

personally think 4 CBs of which one is totally inexperienced is leaving us very light, especially given how long Pontus was out last season.. Unless we're thinking that Dalsgaard will eventually end up there? In which case we probably need to bring in another RB!

Decent player, pretty consistent. Wasn’t as dominant in air as Pontus and Pinnock and we seem to be recruiting bigger boys these days. Odd mistake aside didn’t let us down, sure he can be a favourite at another club

Would like to keep him. Points dropped at Cardiff and Luton when Jansson was also missing were key to us being so far behind WBA at lockdown.

That Wigan game was a turning point, Pinnock could have felt very hard done by up to that point, but he then held the role down and grew into the season to be one of the best defenders in the league.

4 CB's is enough though, anymore than that and you risk being in 'unhappy players' territory. The 5th choice would only get played in an absolute emergency.

JULIAN JEANVIER DEPARTS ON SEASON-LONG LOAN
Defender joins Turkish Süper Lig side Kasımpaşa S.K.

Julian Jeanvier will spend the upcoming campaign on loan with Turkish Süper Lig side Kasımpaşa S.K. The 28-year-old defender completed his move earlier today, Thursday 3 September, joining the Istanbul Club for the 2020/21 season.

Brentford Head Coach, Thomas Frank, said: “Julian got the opportunity to go to Turkey and play week in, week out, at a very high level. He deserves that with the quality he has as a player. At every club you want competition with three good centre-backs. Last season he and Ethan Pinnock fought hard for that shirt and Julian then stepped up when Pontus Jansson was injured. I wish him all the best this year. I know he will fit in well at Kasımpaşa as he is a very good player.”

We didn't have an issue last season with three plus Racic coming through. JJ has been upgraded, he doesn't need to spend another year getting splinters in his arse and we don't need 3 when HD can fill in if necessary.

Surprised it’s a loan? Is it with a view to buy? How much longer has he got on his contract? Guess it frees up a likely fairly substantial wage

Guessing that there is a pretty decent loan fee and that a year of playing every week will boost his market value at the end for us to sell permanently.

The statement reads to me like JJ wanted to be playing every week and we couldn't guarantee that. Probably a good move for all involved, although JJ was always a very solid player for us.

Isn’t Kasimpasa the side funded by Erdogan or his cronies?? Can’t believe we’re doing business with this mob.....Istanbul a truly great city, but why these CU‘s??

Because they are paying his wages.

Good luck to him. I just wonder if we have the strength in depth in terms of quality.

I don't think he was daft red at Wigan and he was always good for a mistake or two
When is a red "not daft" For me he was sticking up for a team mate which we never used to. (cost him his place tho)

As for the mistakes, PJ made an awful one, and Pinnock hasnt been error free.

Before the red we were praising him and i bet if you look back we were debating if EP would be good enough to replace him after a shaky start to his Bees career.
