Interesting signing. A 4 year contract with an option to extend for a year for a 26 year old. He should be near his peak in that time. Wonder will he go straight in at CB with Meps.

Watched some clips and he reminds me of Marcel Desailly

Sound pretty much like a direct replacement for Egan, probably competes with Konsa for the other CB role. Got some great depth back there now, just ideally need some cover at LB, though I'd be quite happy with Barbet there until Henry is fit.

Odubajo would be great to get too if the deal is right, especially if we're looking at using Watkins up top more often.

4 year contracts will likely be the minimum if we have any faith in them. A 3 year deal often means having to sell after only 2 years as you don't want them to go for free a year later. A 4 year deal, with the option of a 5th year puts us in good control of when the player leaves.

Looks a top signing. From his video highlights seems like he played a lot on the left side of defence. Will be interesting to see who starts on sat? Hope international clearance is a bit quicker this time!

I imagine we want 4 year deals for most people we sign now. If it's less it's probably because they insist on it and we grudgingly agree to get the deal over the line rather than lose out (depending on circumstances).

Stick him straight in I say (fitness permitting).

If Mepham doesn't go then DS will have his work cut out keeping them all happy as they're all good enough to expect to be first names on the teamsheet!

Great signing! He was one Reims' best players last year when they won Ligue 2 (and one the best players at Red Star, which used to be my local team, when they missed out on promotion to Ligue 1 by just 1 point two years ago). The Reims supporters are extremely unhappy that he has left, and for what appears to be a low fee. And they cannot believe has gone to an unheard-of team in the English 2nd tier - Brentford, c'est qui? Nor can I!

Once again hats off to the Club! Sell Egan for rumoured £4mill and sign this lad for rumoured £2 great business as I reckon if this lad can adapt well could be twice the player of Egan.

Julian? Sounds like a Fulham fan, underwhelmed.

:fishing:

I have a sneaking suspicion this could be our best signing of the summer :kingkev:

I watch French League 2 quite often (Paris FC, not PSG) and it's not great quality. Over the last couple of seasons I can't remember ever seeing a player that I thought would definitely be good enough to improve Brentford, although I don't think I saw Stade Reims last season. Players in the league generally seem to be strong and fast, but players/teams tend to lack Championship skill from my point of view. However, our scouting system seems to keep coming up trumps, so who am I to cast doubts. Good luck Julian.

Only the second ever first name Julian to play for us. Not sure if there are any Tarquins in professional football...

Good reading Rausums little bit about followers him for sometime. These are exciting times best in my 65+ years of supporting Brentford
Hope his International Clearance has gone through

Maybe we will be following the Southgate approach and play with 3 mobile central defenders and raiding wing-backs. Dalsgard is well accustomed to that formation with Denmark.

I did have the same thought earlier (though I imagine not so didn't post it).
If we aren't wedded to 4-3-3 (as I'm certain people will chime in and say we are) then I think we have the players to do it as you say.

The video I saw, he was mainly right centre back. Right footed too.

Brentford supporter and living in Burgundy no doubt enjoying the very best Pinot Noir. What a great combination.Great signing! You have high standards.

Maupay/ Barbet/ Riyad Mahrez/ Ferland Mendy/ Rafik Guitane/ Denis Bouanga/ Umut Bozok/ Sofiane Alakouch/ Jonathan Kodija/ Mikael Le Bihan/ Valerie Germain/ Thomas Lemar/ Florian Thauvin/ Benjamin Mendy/ N'Golo Kante/ Blaise Matuidi/ Djibtil Sidibe/ Olivier Giroud.

All played Ligue 2 , most in the last 3-5 seasons, 7-8 made the WC winning squad.

In terms of value for money, I cannot think of a better league in Europe .

And that’s why we fish in this pond. Originally, Smartoddds thought it would scour Eastern European waters as the value bet for players but the answer has been a little closer to home.

Haha - bang to rights. I guess my dreams of becoming a professional football scout had better go on hold. Without a doubt the quality of the games are far inferior to the Championship though. I guess the art is picking out those players who are better than the teams they are in. In my defence the only players I see time and time again play for Paris FC, so I'm pretty confident none of those are good enough for the Bees.

Although we'll almost certainly buy our next super striker from Paris FC now!

So we let Egan go for 4m and then pay half that amount for Jeanvier. Excellent work by the DOFs. Judging by that video he looks quality

The local Reims newspaper calls him a "master craftsman" and states that he's been in the Ligue 2 team of the year for both of the last two seasons. Mepham, Konsa and Jeanvier... unbelievable quality.

It's quite amusing that L'Équipe are reporting that, after two season in red and white, he's chosen to pursue his career in England... a pity they didn't say chose to say 'continue his career in red and white'!

Après deux saisons sous les couleurs rouge et blanche, il a choisi de poursuivre sa carrière en Angleterre...
