Didn't stake a claim for forcing his way back into the starting eleven. Thought he had a very poor first half and was miles off the pace - lost his man for the first goal, then again for Daniels' good save before caught out not paying attention for the rebound. Did better in the second half but had far less to deal with defensively at that point. Needs to work harder to force himself back into the side.

lack of games has led to him looking well of the pace first half... better player alongside Pinnock/Jansson

Pinnock is better at guiding the rookies, especially after a run of matches, but yesterday was excellent for bringing Julian back up to speed. Not his best performance by a long way. Pinnock/Jeanvier seems a pretty good combo.

Didn’t look like the senior player at the back...his decision making and leadership were sadly lacking!

Really? We obviously watched different games.
Lack of concentration for the first goal, didn’t track Iheanacho run and again when the ball came back in from the Daniels save, allowed his player to get the header in. Looked off the pace Imo

:imwith:

He seems to ball watch and just switch off. Caught out of position a number of times and lacked awareness of potential danger. Reading the game is the hallmark of a good CD apart and JJ doesn't do it well enough for me. Won't be too much longer until Racic is 3rd choice CB

To be fair to Julian, before his sending off at Wigan and losing his place he had started really well.

He wasn't at his best in the first half but I'm more than happy for him to pair up with Pinnock if needed tomorrow night.

Could easily slot into our first choice back four. Must have been really difficult to be the one senior player in our back four on Saturday, that fraction of a second you need to check that everyone else is doing their job before you concentrate on your own proved to be our downfall.

An ok performance but what pleased me most was how he went straight up to Raya after his error - a good pro.

Was fine today. Should have been booked as should their defender who tripped Ollie on the edge of their box.

Some nice passes out of defence from JJ today.. Him and Pinnock didn't have a lot to do but they both did it very well.. We're very lucky to have 4 quality CBs

There was a clearance he made when under real pressure and he just got his toe to it and got the ball away.... I thought that was a good 'don't faff about' moment.

I presume his shirt ended up in New Road where there was a Guinea flag today.

Since he went off vs Blackburn, his injury hasn't been mentioned on the OS or on here.

Does anyone know what the injury is and when he is likely to be back as he's already missed 2 games?

Had a fight with Pontus but the club doesn't want anyone to know.

 Was it during their Pilates session? Obviously all on the hush-hush and the QT.

Pleased he played today, thought he dealt pretty well overall with the dark arts of Fletcher

he picked out a couple today, thought both CBs were a lot more positive with the ball which was great to see..
Yep, I thought that too. It was good to see Ethan go on a forward raid with the ball in the first half. JJ was really strong and positive today as well.

Solid today. Didn’t give away any stupid free kicks - that I can remember - like he has done in the past. JJ and EP worked well as a pair.

Yes! Next stage in Pinnock’s development. JJ superb today. Gives Mr Frank problems for Friday maybe 🤷🏼*♂

I’ve dug him out recently. But I thought he was much better today.

Wonder if he will stay next season? A great player to have in reserve but will he be happy with that role? Could also block the development of our two young centre backs.

We could probably also get a decent profit if we cashed in knowing us.

Can't be sure that we won't switch to three at the back generally or within games. We are a known quantity now. We would need him and there's always injury.

I can see us bringing in lower division prospect with some experience and selling JJ

To look back on his time:

Was pretty good playing in the middle of the back three with Barbet and Konsa either side of him in 18/19. Wasn’t ever the best passer but was strong and physical and brave and mopped up well.

Don’t think he was great this season tbh. Weakness in ball-playing was exposed when we moved to a back four. I can see now why he struggled to make an impact when he first joined and we were picking Mepham/Konsa.

In terms of keeping him on, the question I would ask:

Is he really better than Racic? IMO, no. He’s also a lot older. I know who I’d rather have in a match day squad.

Personally, I think his time is up.

I think we might see him moved on, we can't afford to have three CBs who aren't that great on the ball the way we try and play out from the back. PInnock's been improving but we need to either try and bring Racic on or bring someone in who can step up with the ball like Konsa or Mepham did.. Will make a massive difference when faced with a low block..

I sort of forgot about him lol Keep him if with how things played out he isn't one of the first choice CB's anymore.

I wouldn't be surprised to see him leave...not bad but we could easily sign another young CB and have them and Sorensen as backup.

Surely one of Racic or Sorensen should go out on loan. Racic has much to offer but doubt that he will progress unless he is playing somewhere. Same can be said for Sorensen, indeed the same can be said for Oxsannen, and the other young midfielder whose name escapes me. Trouble is we need reserves but young men need to play to progress. We are not being fair with them currently. Difficult I know.

I think Sorenson will definitely go out on loan. He seemed to be doing very well at AFC Wimbledon and wouldn't be surprised if he ended up there again.

To be fair to him, he played as the left sided CB alongside PJ in a back four and so had to play quite a lot off his weaker left foot. I do wonder if the senior pro shouldn’t stick his hand up in that case.
No doubt Pinnock was a better fit at left CB and yes some arguments to ship him out if we feel Racic and Mads Bech Sorenson are good enough to warrant some proper game time.

Would imagine he’s definitely off considering he’s not been in any of the preseason pictures so far

I was present when he was red-carded. He’d had a very good game, and season up to that point. Seems to have been marginalised somehow. Pinnock playing at the top of his game has made it very easy to leave him out. I think it’s been a bit of a waste of his talent.

We'll need four first-choice centre backs to get through the condensed fixture schedule intact. Jansson is never going to play all the games with intensity, as was shown during the post-lockdown spell, for example. Anything else is a very high risk, given our new defensive toughness.
