Surely with a smaller squad than many, the more players that can play in different positions the better.

I would have thought we would aim to play a more defensive formation against the 'big clubs' and be more forward against realistic target clubs.

Having a CB that can play further forward when called upon has to be a welcome asset.
within a game as well.

There's a little bit of analysis on Ajer here. They say that he'll likely go for 20m to the likes of Arsenal or Man U!! :)

There seems to be a view on their forum that Celtic being really canny will have 'extracted' a 10-15% sell. Most sell-ons that I have heard discussed on previous players tend to be more 20-25%. Could it be that we added more up front in return for a lower, but for them more expected, sell on?
I would imagine it being like the drug deal at the end of Trainspotting :D

Our team is taking an odd look, with FO, VJ, Christian wanting to play in midfield again, Ajer (according to that article far better in midfield?)
We still need pace at CB, competition for MJ in midfield bringing in more creativity, set piece and a goal threat and pace out wide and an additional striker.
i wonder what formation Celtic played with Ajer at CB, hopefully it wasn’t 3x CBs.
I think the single biggest area still for improvement is a creative attacking midfielder (assuming KA and FO make it over the line). Be that either a number 10 or an attacking wide player, but someone to unlock doors and create chances for Toney.

We would have gone up automatically if we had that last season, which obviously didn't matter in the end, but I can see us struggling to score regularly in the PL without it.

We'd have communicated to him the exact role we're signing him to play, so I assume any question marks over CB/DM won't be an issue. It sounds like he's the permanent 'Norgaard in defence' option though, and all of those stats indicate he's perfect for the position. Plus he's 6.5ft so will be good at set pieces at both ends.

Most Celtic fans I've briefly read seem to understand it even if they don't agree with it. Obviously Celtic are a bigger club, but in terms of leagues and divisions you'd struggle to find someone who didn't understand. Any of their fans who are annoyed that he's joining us are really just highlighting how good a player they think he is.

We certain will relish his ability to bring the ball out of defence, and interceptions regathering possession is vital too. With Onyeka also being good at regaining possession I can see them working well together

It's a bit like someone who has struggled to earn a decent wage for long time and looks for the value products in the supermarket and Poundland then they get lucky on the lottery and win a massive wedge but still shop in the same way for a while before realising they can really up the stakes.
We are all victims of our own social inheritance. I don’t know who said it, but it’s true.

I wonder if perhaps we're planning on creating more from the wings, and overloading various areas of the pitch, and using the midfield to hold shape with Onyeka/Norgaard.

With Jensen etc being used when chasing games.

They’ll remind you that they’re not Scandinavian and their language is completely different. Nearest to Hungarian apparently, and not very near to that.
I'm soooo not up on my foreign languages! E grade for GCSE French as it goes, despite being top set boy for all the stuff that matters namely English / Maths / Sciences. Now I'm REALLY going to incur an off topic **** off to chit chat dressing down from admins 😅

to me it looks like we’re recruiting to gegenpress. Athletic midfield to win the ball high, one pass to Toney and bang.

Signing Kris Ajer?
A centre back to compete with :
Jansson, Pinnock, Sorensen, Racic, Goode, Jeanvier plus Norgaard can play in a back three.
Clearly a few for the exit door.

Agreed;

Jeanvier, Goode, Racic - unlikely to feature in plans. Would move on, at least on loan.

MBS - For now, no more than a backup at PL level. But would keep around after playing so much last season.

Jansson - In his 30s and injury prone. Need someone good enough now to step in and cover his position and a medium/long-term replacement.

Norgaard CAN but we don't want him to. We want him in midfield. Jeanvier coming back from a serious injury, doubt we'll see much of him for a while.

That leaves us with 6 to cover (probably) 3 positions. Jansson/Goode, Ajer/Racic, Pinnock/Sorenson. Guess the question is whether we think Racic has enough to cover Ajer or whether we want to send him out on loan. Suspect the latter with Norgaard covering if need be..

I think we are going to set up like England and play with two defensive midfielders that can run themselves into the ground knowing they will be replaced half way through the second half.

Sounds like Celtic fans either think he’s rubbish or brilliant …. A player who divides opinions!

A watford fan on Twitter "brentford paying more money for one player then watford have for 9 the entire window"

He goes on to say not a criticism of Brentford's transfer activity.

Surely makes more sense to make one big improvement than a variety bag of assorted players. Someone said last week that according to Fantasy Premier League's categorisations, Watford have 15% of all the strikers in the PL :D Good luck keeping all ten of them happy...
Having read that thread, he said it because he was slating Watfords recruiting this close season, basically saying he would rather have the ome good one than the 9 not very good, over the hill wastes of wages

If you add the wages together for the players they’ve signed, I’m sure they’ve spent more money than we have on Ajer. Probably more than Ajer and Onyeka combined. They might be low transfer fees, but there’ll be lots of cash tied up in wages and signing on fees.

If we can get him, plus our long awaited CM and some wide options it will be a good window.

His potential excites me and his footballing ability with the ball. When CN was back there he enabled us to break the press with his ability. Hopefully if we go 3 at the back. Him Pinnock and Pontus would compliment each other really well.

Pontus leader.
Pinnock - Beast!
Ajer - ball playing CB.

Really good combo that.

Really mixed feelings from Celtic about this player. One thing I know is if we want to sign him he must be good simple.

I think MBS will surprise us and easily make the step up and really shine. Will be competing hard for either central or left side centre back spot

Agree MBS has great potential. By bringing in a quality player like Ajer, MBS will only benefit. Also we need competition for places which is paramount if we are to progress as a club. Exciting times.

Headline on one of the click bait sites says 'Newcastle can't afford to compete with Brentford for top target'.

Well, I guess it is Ashley

I once mentioned the Hungarian similarity to a Finnish colleague. He replied that it was just like English being similar to Sanskrit.

If you can’t speak either language, they kind of sound alike. But it’s more the sentence structure and endings on words. They have nothing else in common in reality, they just came from the same root.
