On this run of draws we've had lately 6 in the last 9 games or so I've been thinking why don't we score late goals to win the game or turn a defeat into a draw so I've gone back through the season and I was surprised to see in the league on only one occasion have we scored late when it matters (Reading away JDS '86' to make it 2-1)

I love a late goal..maybe we are saving it for Wembley⚽

That cannot be correct .....Millwall at GP 3-2.... 2019-20 , 2-0 down with 6 to play....Josh/Bryan/Ollie ............mad scenes !

Brentford most goals in Championship this season after 81st minute.

Most goals last season after 81st minute

Edit: mis read sorry, read 86 as year 86 (my bad) , take your point, but we have scored plenty of late goals.

Alex Dawson in 1970 is probably still my favourite.

To score late goals we need to create opportunities. Until the Cardiff game, we seemed to be letting too many games peter out, rather than unleashing waves of pressure in search of a victory.

But requiring late goals to win games isn't necessarily a sign of a great team. We seemed to score lots of late goals in 2012/13, but our reliance on them seemed to show that we just lacked the ability to dominate games and win more comfortably, and ultimately we fell short.

I seem to recall Dean Holdsworth’s 120 minute equaliser against Bristol Rovers at home in the LDV vans trophy was wildly celebrated.

That was short lived as we lost the penalty shootout and I remember John Buttigieg’s feeble halfhit effort certainly didn’t help.

When we were in Hate Corner, before it was so named, we used to exit via the steps in the New Road corner, into Brook Road and either out that way or through into Braemar Rd, so there was quite a lot of us there.
When the goal went in there was a mini pitch invasion.
Still lost on penalties though.

Two good memories: Kevin Godfrey's equaliser v Tranmere in the play-off semi. Also Millen's late header vs Reading that same season.

We seemed to score late goals for fun during the ‘Warburton era’ Dallas 90+4 for a 2-1 win against Derby in 2014 is one I always remember.

This was meant to be late late goals this season or the lack of them ...🙄
Sorry, it's evolved into a late goals memory thread!

Favourite last minute goal was New Year's Eve 2011 against MK Dons.

I was a bit miffed they had an evening game on NYE, and Charlie Macdonald put MK Dons 3-0 up before half time.

I remember the atmosphere was absolutely miserable, and my Dad asked me "if you could go back in time and head straight to the pub instead of watching the match tonight, would you?" and I said "yes, probably".

Gary Alexander went on to score a brace, before Leon Legge powered a header in the 90th minute to pull it level at 3-3. Incredible scenes.

elder v Bradford! Seem to remember we went 1-0 up in the 89th minute only for Boulding to equalise in the 90th.... big Nath did the rest!
My sons first game.
My wife was saying "Let's go, I'm cold", with five minutes to go.
My reply was No there's not long to go.
Before I'd finished my sentence we took the lead.

Was that the game when we had a loanee goalkeeper who went totally mental when the winner went in. I think he only played one game.

When we were in League 2 I had to miss a game because of some other priority, but got back to Brentford station at about 4.35. Thought I'd wander past the ground to get the result from people leaving, but the gates were open so I went in and caught the last 5 minutes - including the only goal of the game scored by Glen Poole. Think it might have been against Macclesfield?

Looking forward to a last minute goal in the play off final and TF describing it as a "top top late late goal"

Docherty and Dawson 1st round fa cup 1970/71 season v Gills. 1500 kick off too.
Both very late goals and the start of that brilliant run beating Walsall who were top of the third in the next round and then away win at Workington and then beat high flying second division side Cardiff.
Robbed at Hull in the 5th round when McKechnie took ten minutes and 15 steps before being out of the box when he cleared and think Chiltern scored.
Magical run

Brian Turner hit the post when clean through. Would have made it 0-2. Same day as Colchester beat dirty Leeds and Ray Crawford scored a hat trick.

McKechnie was out of his area when he kicked up field for the second goal and I remember them showing it on the Big Match. However youtube highlights don't show that so perhaps they were posted by a Hull fan.

Phillips fouled and Turner hit post at 1 0. Magical time for me. Proud. Workington was day of Ibrox disaster. 3rd round draw,Workington or Chesterfield away. Bit of a downer. Turned out great fun.

Remember taking the special from Ealing Broadway, must have been the oldest rolling stock available. Miserable journey home

Didn’t Wagstaffe(?) control the ball with his hand in our penalty area just before one of their goals? Still narked about this game after half a century.
Thinking of late goals again, Charlie's late winner at a freezing MK wasn't a "late late" goal probably 85 mins but it ranks high in the undeserved late winners list. Probably our only shot at goal all game, how we danced!

Andy Scott at Cambridge. It was so late in the game the pubs were calling last orders.
Mental scenes.
I think that one might be in the running for the latest ever goal we've scored. I recall the ITV goals round-up saying it was the latest / one of the latest goals that whole season - 97:something mins on the clock

There a period around 1999 - vaguely remember it being mentioned on the original incarnation of this board - where we seemed to be winning games in injury time as a matter of routine. Edmundo's favourite Kevin Rapley won a game late on and ripped his shirt off early one season but it also happened in a league cup game and others.

I do agree with the sentiments of the OP though. Not much beats a last minute goal for drama. The number of times recently I've thought "oh could we do with one of those today" as injury time passes by....and nothing much happens.

Yes I remember this old school "xG injustice"
The BBC report says was our first shot and I was sure I saw a shot count of 15-1 or similar afterwards....though the stats underneath say we had two BBC Sport - Football - MK Dons 0-1 Brentford

Hoffman v forest has been my favourite in later years....can't remember who scored it but the 2nd goal in the 2-1 Win v Bradford after Marcus bean had made it 1-0 in the 89th minute
