Another good win for the Tanners. This time 2-1 at home to Carshalton. Crowd just shy of 500..
I know it was NYD, but that's still a very good attendance.

I managed to make my first visit to Fetcham Grove in 30/40 years yesterday. Not much changed, fence all the way round the ground and the small stands at either end since I was last there, floodlights seemed worse although that could be due to my failing eyesight🤓
Enjoyable game, thought tanners worth the win, Carshlton a bit long ball and the robins keeper made some excellent saves to keep the game interesting.
Liked the MOM (9) 10 and right back.
A few pessimistic fans, who within seconds of going behind we’re convinced defeat by 3 or 4 was inevitable.....but both sets of supporters seem a good humoured bunch.
Didn’t make it to my old local, the ‘runner’ for a pint after the game which I will do next visit.
All in all very enjoyable, but not a good day for Robins.......anywhere!

Tanners won 2-1 away at Wingate and Finchley last night. Up to 8th and only 2 points off the play offs. Big game at home to Bognor on Saturday. Might get back for the 2nd half..

Gone off the boil a bit. Decent 1-1 away at Hornchurch last Saturday followed by a 2-0 defeat at Worthing in the League Cup in Tuesday night. Squad is a bit thin at the moment to the point that manager Nicky Bull (remember him in goal for us?) played up front for the full 90 minutes that game..

Tanners 2 nil up at half time and had a great chance of a third before Leicester got back in it. I was in Taylors in Leatherhead High St that afternoon and they had the game on the radio. It was on Match of the Day that evening too https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kRU8SOVhQI4

Went to the game on the running horse coach. Remember the Leicester fans taking the piss cos they thought tanners fans were all posh coming from Surrey.....obviously hadn’t heard of Cleeve/Kingston Rd.

Can’t remember the exact number, 2 or 3 thousand I guess. Probably a thousand to Brighton in the previous round. The sell out home game against Colchester was like a war zone.

Taylor’s - what a wonderful shop. My memory maybe playing tricks but I think they even sold a Leatherhead subbuteo team back in the day

I was there when we played Colchester again in the cup about 3 years later. I would have been about 10 or 11 and it was the first time I’d seen things property kick off at a football match.

Wasn't it just! Toys to the left, luggage etc to the right and the big windows at the entrance. I can still see the Subbuteo teams stacked up on top of one of the shelves! Ref 157 - officially Mexico and Jersey - but Leatherhead to me too. I have one. I can't remember if Taylors sold it as Leatherhead - I didn't have one back then and got mine years later http://www.peter-upton.co.uk/subhw2.htm

They might be able to lay their hands on a 2nd user set this summer, ex Chelsea apparently
Indeed. There’s probably a few bits and pieces going on e-bay in the next few months that the tanners could bid for. Don’t think they’ve got hand sanitizers at Fetcham Grove.

A 0-0 at home in the Mick Sullivan Derby (Merstham FC) on Saturday was followed by a decent 3-0 win at home last night against Sutton United in the Surrey Senior Cup. South Park at home in the QFs...

What a fabulous report! Well written and very evocative. Conjures up some pictures you’d rather it hadn’t. I bought The Head’s renowned single “Nothing to do in a town like Leatherhead” from another much missed shop - Tower Records now pretty much the entrance to the Travelodge - just after it was released. It’s now pretty collectible and some bloke bought it from me for £77 on eBay a few years ago.

The Head played a gig in the clubhouse a couple of years ago.

Going back to the report, legend has it that many a romantic encounter took place on the centre circle after last orders...

Mmmm, can’t say I heard/had any ‘encounters’ in the centre circle, but loads went on after dark in west wing pool on a hot summer night, and there used to be a girls boarding school at the bottom of Gymcrack hill, that sort of backed on to Fetcham Grove, who regularly found themselves at loose end on a Sunday afternoon.
Sorry to say I’d moved away by the time the Saturday discos we’re taking place in the clubhouse.
I don’t remember their being a particularly large Arsenal following, more Chelsea I thought, very funny report though.

Reading this and the great Sutton Utd blog, I reflect on what a sheltered life I have led............

chap count - very low (I'd say probably 0!) unless a big game - visits of Aldershot, AFC, Wealdstone used to bring a few out
booze prices - cheapish pub level but not Inverness or Wetherspoons. Running Horse PH over the road is decent
food prices - tea bar always looks a bit grim - never tried tbh
programme availability and price - don't buy one myself

Back in the day (80s) the Running Horse was a bit of an old man / tarquin sort of pub....but go round the corner and have a pint in The Bull........ :box:.......is that still there?

Haha....no, sadly not. I do remember it being lively there. Lowenbrau on draught in the New England Bar :box: - never a dull moment! I actually met my wife there 30 years ago...

Unfortunately it’s now a Lidl...

How very dare you....The ‘runner’ was my local in the 70s and early 80s. I’ll have you know I was quite cool and trendy in those days.
Your right about The Bull, could get very lively, sadly many of the chaps that used to go there and Fetcham Grove are no longer with us.I was glad to be mates with them and certainly wouldn’t have wanted to be the wrong side of a few of them.

Lowenbrau, that takes me back!! Remember that Muswells up by shopping center? We used to get Lowenbrau and K cider for free there, it all went very wrong one day when a group of gents from Cheam turned up and tried to steal the till from behind the bar :box:

Muswells! - I'd completely forgotten about that - had a few good nights there back in the day... IIRC it went on to be call Brahms and Liszt and is now a curry house. There was also a 'wine bar' in Bridge Street. I think it was called Moles. It had a smoky cellar bar with really narrow stairs. Would never been allowed today. The other place that takes me back was the Riverside Club in Fetcham (now bungalows). They used to have bands on (Tenpole Tudor spring to mind) and it was always likely to kick off - down the end of a quiet country lane with no near neighbours. Seems hard to believe now..

Anyway Leatherhead drew 1-1 with Kingstonian at home in the league last night - crowd 357

Be nice if they could make the play offs, didn’t they narrowly miss out last season? Feels like they miss out but finish top half every year for as long as I can remember.

Yes, it's normally around this time that we get a points deduction for a non registered player, etc. Admin used to be awful but has hopefully improved with the new regime down there..

Beat East Thurrock 3-0 with all the goals coming in the first 30 minutes, but still 10 points away from the Play Off places.

Very happy memories of the Running Horse, particularly one afternoon in 1998 when about eight off us sacked off college to spend all day drinking there before heading up to Wembley to watch England V Chile (2-0 defeat with a Salas wonder goal)
