Well, you learn a little every day. Fetcham Grove was home to The Maple Leaves baseball team in the early 50’s. They were in a league and played friendly games against the US navy and hosted an international, England v Canada, with a team made up from other baseball clubs from Mitcham and Sutton area.

I certainly didn’t know that. In other news manager Nikki Bull will continue in his role next season..

I was another who didn't know that. A lot of Canadians were stationed around Leatherhead in the War - my Dad got badges and buttons from the ones in Eastwick Park, Bookham. A fair few must have stayed on in the area when it finished.

Of course, good point. A lot of Canadians were billeted up Beech Avenue next to Effingham golf course. My dear old mum had a Canadian boy friend who used to take all sort of treats for my Grandmother.
Wasn’t young street named because it was built by ‘young’ Canadians in the area.

I believe that is the case and there is a memorial to the Canadians at the top of Young Street

The original bridge the Canadians put over the river in Young St was there until well into the 70s, may have even just made the 80s.

That right, used to cycle there from Effingham to fish down the side of the bridge.
It was the only way to cross the Mole during the 68 floods as bridge street was completely flooded but Young street was passable. I remember coming home from my mates on my lambretta.

A strange one. I haven’t seen the report yet but it looked like we put out a reasonably decent team including the centre forward Great Evans who was sent off at Chertsey on Tuesday night. I had assumed we’d had another sending off but that doesn’t appear to be the case. A really tough trip to Haringey Borough tomorrow night as well...

That's got to be the worst Tanners defeat for many years. If you'd said to anyone leaving Fetcham Grove after the Horsham game that the Tanners would be stuffed 7-0 the following Saturday, no-one - including the Horsham fans - would have believed you. Will be interesting hearing what Nikki Bull has to say about what happened. Let's hope for a big bounceback at home next Saturday.

Well, I wasn’t expecting that. Tanners win 1-0 away at Haringey Borough this evening. Stefan Brown with the only goal in the 48th minute. 288 there..

Decent 0 - 0 draw at home to Margate yesterday. Sadly, there seems to be be trouble behind the scenes at the Tanners. Nikki Bull said it could lead to him and Martin McCarthy leaving. This interview with Mick Sullivan well worth a watch
Thanks for posting this. I nearly went down yesterday but apathy set in. Did you glean anymore about the situation? Sadly, as Nikki alludes to in the interview, there always seems to be something going on behind the scenes that undermines progress on the pitch. A real shame - I thought we were in good shape this year with all the fund raising in the background by the supporters club

Unfortunately the water has been muddied further by the message below being posted - Daniel Hodges had himself tweeted on Friday that he had not resigned and was fully committed to the club. Other than this turmoil, I agree, I think the Tanners look to be in pretty good shape. They've bounced back well from last Saturday, for example. If Nikki and Martin were to walk though - what a disaster that would be.

Yes, I had just noticed that too after I had posted. Never a dull moment at Fetcham Grove!

Tanners had gone 2-3 down at one point so great result (wish I’d gone!). Attendance 401. Hopefully the off the field problems are behind them..

Sammy Moore has just signed for Folkstone Invicta

Next home game

What kind of reception will he get ?.
Interesting question. IMO Sammy was well liked when he was here and was successful- particularly good FA Cup run. If I remember rightly he promised a long term plan then chased the money as soon as a better offer came along and left under a bit of a cloud. I don‘t think we’re in any worse shape now than when he left and I would think he’ll be reasonably well received. It will be interesting to see whether he’s still got it. He wasn’t playing every game when he was here and I thought he had retired as a player 2 years ago...

Brilliant result.

Worthing had won three out of three in the League.

Good to see. Sorely tempted today but couldn’t drag myself away from iFollow! Hopefully all the ‘behind the scenes’ stuff has been sorted - all quiet on that front..

Good Tanners win today. 2-0 at home against Folkestone Invicta. 489 there to see it. Both goals were crackers (videos on Twitter.)
Took myself along to Fetcham Grove yesterday. I thought it was a very good game with two excellent goals. I thought Tanners number 9 was very good and also the left back, who looked about 12 years old.
Forgot how cold it can get this time of year being so close to the river.
Also miss the traditional shouts by the crowd of ‘Redhill’ every time the ball got booted into the mole or over the crossbar by the opposition........
