Saturday 3pm kick off now confirmed.

Advance train tickets not on sale yet, not even if you fancy heading up on the Friday...

Worst case scenario you can get the incredibly slow train to Crewe and change.
Leave London 08:46, arrive in Liverpool 12:43, leave 19:13 arrive back in London 23:04. No advance booking needed.
4 hours each way is still quicker than Burnley.....

You are aware this is Liverpool?

Unfair comment, Liverpool is a nice city. Yes it might have some issues but where doesn't! I think there is a GPG thread about problems around Lionel Road games this season so we can't really judge issues around other stadiums; that's if there is even issues around Anfield or Liverpool🤷‍♂️

My post was tongue in cheek - and not a News at Ten Headline Shamrock. It was a cheap shot and like many jokes, based on stereotypes that are no doubt unfair - like Scousers being tea leaves, Yorkshiremen/Jocks being tight, taffs being close with sheep, etc. etc. No need to take offence old chap

Last time I went to stay in Liverpool (an August Bank Holiday weekend) I found the Malmaison was cheaper than the budget chain hotels centrally.

How very dare you denigrate Yorkshiremen in this terrible stereotypical fashion. The reason I walk to the stadium is for exercise, not to avoid the bus fare. Really! Shakes head in dismay.

Re Liverpool, thinking of driving to outskirts, even another town and jumping on public transport. Any ideas?

Did a tourist day trip to Liverppol this week as had never been before. Cavern club, docks, shopping, meal etc. Enjoyed it. You can see its had a fair bit of investment in recent years.

Why not just take the train all the way as you’ll be driving pretty much the same route anyway if you’re in heavy woollen country?

I'm in West London! But I was thinking of jumping on that east-west line somewhere.

European capital of culture, after all.
On a trip for Tranmere away a few years ago (more than few years ago actually) I had a walk around the Albert Dock before hitting the pubs. The Tate Liverpool and the Museum are both free entry and interesting. The Beatles Story on the other hand is £17.

That was meant to say "The Museum of Slavery"

Plenty of safe parking options on Just Park ..
it wasn`t "safe" in 89 on our last visit

It might be a fiver now instead of a pound i suppose

Hopefully they`ll emulate the kids at Villa & wear hi vis and look "official"

I have a friend who lives in Liverpool and the place is much more modern now with some good restaurants and St John's shopping centre is just over the road from the station and the city centre has all the big named shops you would see in most major cities. As already stated Albert Dock is a good place to visit and yes, there are some places you would not want to go to, but that is the same in any city.

First time I was was shown around the city by a Liverpool supporting mate was in the late 70s early 80s. Besides a trip to Anfield the only other tourist attraction I remember was what he called "the only statue of Queen Victoria with a willy".

Queen Victoria's Knob statue in Liverpool Stock Photo - Alamy

You have to stand at the right spot to get the illusion.
Nowadays there is probably a queue of tourists taking instagrams.

Cheep train tickets are still set to be released on the 1st December.
Hey Daniel. We are indeed expecting 15 January tickets to be released on 1 December for you. This could be subject to change, so make sure you're signed up for the Advance ticket alerts via the link above - Lauren

Split your ticket at Crewe, saves a fair whack of money.

(Based on looking at MK to Liverpool Lime Street on the latest Saturday available when I looked over the weekend).

Sorry sorry I noticed tickets are on sale after the 15th January but not that weekend myself. My apologies, the email said from the 15th Jan, it seems to be days beyond it 🙄

Poor comms sorry mate, I should have checked before posting it here.

The mail seemed clear that 15th Jan is on sale. Brentford ticket office in charge of comms for Avanti west coast it seems.

Had the same email. Question is will they resend when they actually go on sale? :D

Edit, National Rail Enquiries says engineering works between Euston and MK/Northampton on 15/01 will see a reduced number of services heading north.

They've said via twitter that they sent these out by mistake, not sure what this means for an alert when the time actually comes.
