A solid back up keeper comes in and a young and slightly nervy keeper goes out on loan methinks.

Decent back up keeper signed. It's a shrewd move and perhaps healthy competition for Dan

Probably never to play for the Bees again.

Welcome aboard Luke

You'd have to assume this means Bonham will go out on loan next year and Luke becomes second choice. Fine with me and good luck to all parties for next year.

Bonham will need to sign a contract extension before he goes out on loan - his current deal expires next summer. With his limited game time and this new signing, I'd be quite surprised if that happened. I think Bonham might be on his way out permanently.

Welcome Luke. Like already's been said, next season's back up keeper. Bonham out on loan to gain much needed game time and experience to push on from his Barnsley performance. Bentley then to be sold for £9 million at the end of next season after another outstanding year between the sticks, with Bonham and Daniels in a good position to pick up the number one gloves. Maybe.

Fantastic, just seems odd that you'd play that many games current season to sit on the bench the following. Appreciate he'l be pushing for number 1 spot but big ask at the moment. Are we at all concerned maybe Dan on his way and replacement for him?

Was he first choice at Scunthorpe last season?
Had a bit of an investigation and he seems to have been undisputed 1st choice up to beating Bradford 3-2 and then didnt even feature in a match day squad after that. Looking at match reports at the time there is no talk of him being injured although they might just have not reported it.

Probably nothing to worry about but just struck me as odd (I'm not busy today if you hadn't worked it out :))

This is a statement of intent that we are determined to have an even stronger squad with experienced cover in every position.

Daniels had a peripatetic start to his career but did really well at Scunny and had 3 years as first choice only losing his place through injury.

They released Anyon and were keen to resign Luke but 3 years with us gives him some security.

He will certainly push Bentley and his arrival allows Bonham to do what he's needed to do for a couple of years, go out and play regularly and prove he merits a new contract.

If he signs an extension, maybe he'll go on loan to Scunthorpe?

Certainly a very decent signing by Bees, but I wonder why Scunthorpe weren't offering him a new contract on the expiry of his old one?

I mean, if he was good enough to keep nets 42 times in the season just ended when they finished 3rd, you'd have thought he deserved another go next season?

Meanwhile, he's having to move down to London, to sign for a club where he's not likely to start unless DB gets injured/suspended.

Oh well, welcome on board! :sorted:

According to a recent article in the Scunthorpe Telegraph, they were negotiating with him regarding a new contract.

Thanks for that.

Says something for their ambitions/finances that they couldn't keep him, considering they could offer him 1st team football, and he wouldn't have to move house etc.

Or maybe it says more about our ambitions/finances? :sorted:

Will be interesting to see if Bonham gets a new contract if/when loaned out. I get the feeling he is still rated and some game time elsewhere will give him the opportunity to see if he can push for the number one spot next season

their supporters suspected he was capable of getting a contract in a higher division

Interesting....I like a transfer that no one sees coming. I don't think we've had it since George Saville (and maybe Jota, although he ruined that one by tweeting it!).

Clearly they were right!

But from the player's pov, he can't be guaranteed starts at GP, plus he'll have to move house etc and he's a Northerner who's only ever had a couple of brief loans taking him South of Watford before now. So you'd have thought he'd have been more likely to go to someone like Bolton or Sheff U?

Maybe he's a late developer and we've picked up another hidden gem?

If it was clear he wasn't signing a new contract they may have just cut their losses....29 is a good age for a keeper and no harm in some more experience in the squad....Bonham surely to go out on loan now

Broke a rib in that Bradford game and missed the rest of the season.

According to Twitter (well he retweeted a tweet) he had the joint most clean sheets in 15/16 season (27) in League One.

You just get the feeling with these signings that we are stepping up a gear. On paper looks like another great addition to the squad, providing decent competition for Dan, which will hopefully keep him on his toes. The G/K and striker options were the only positions where we did not have much competition, can only be a positive.

It also appears their chairman was not going to finalise contract offers until he was certain which division they would be in. It's hardly surprising, under those circumstances, that Daniels went for another firm offer.

Like this signing - competition for Bentley and should Dan get injured we have a ready made replacement. Also allows Bonham to go out on loan for a year and hopefully return back to provide legitimate competition (although 3 year deal means unless DB is sold we will still have 3 first team keepers on our books so I think JB will likely be released next year).

Any chance that Bentley might be off?
There'll always be interest in him, as there was before he signed for us, but I think it's more an indication that the plan is to have two 'equal' players in each position and younger ones coming through. Dean Smith has shown he can manage a squad like that and those players must be recruited and informed on that basis. We're a long way on from having a first team of 11 and a few hangers-on to make up the numbers.

Exactly might thoughts, but i think he will stay this season. If we are just looking to finish just above the bottom 4 then he will go, in Jan because he is ambitious. But the way things are going then we are looking to be positive and go for a top 6 position. The key signings are still to come though if we are to look to move upwards. Striker and DM are key, along with keeping a couple of key players.

Or says something about his ambitions, goes to an established championship side with a plan to oust the incumbent.

You may well be right. Either way, this feels like a really positive move. It's a great time to be a Bees fan... :sorted:

He would possibly know Bentley from his Southend loan spell a few years back

Good signing of real intent, providing genuine competition to bring the best out of both keepers. Surely Jack Bonham will leave on loan or permanently.

I hope I'm wromg, but with his age and CV, he doesn't look to me to be a regular starter in a Championship team with ambitions for the Play-Offs (or higher), at least not whilst Dan B is at the club.

Of course, Dan B may be on his way before long.

But if he should go, I'd expect BFC already to have another replacement in mind, just as Dan was the replacement for David B when David left.

But hey ho, Luke may be another undiscovered gem who could grow into the job and if so, so much the better.

Don't see much reason for binning Bonham just yet, given that Daniels was a senior at West Brom for about 8 years and spent much of the time out on loan. Depends whether Bonham would be satisfied with that until he reaches his prime.
