Yes it seems a shame that someone who has made it as a professional footballer is happy not to play. But as I said earlier, I'm not complaining because he's a good keeper to have.
It’s part of the life as a keeper and clubs will all want to have a sub who can do a good job if called upon, almost always at short notice and potentially then until the next transfer window. It’s possibly more psychologically demanding than being the number 1 in a lower ranked team.

A goal kick from Harrow Borough FC
I wonder what the odds are of a g/k spending a spell sidelined due to injury: the chances are certainly significant. LD might prefer a chance of another month or two at this level (like last season) to certain starts in L1. Wouldn’t be an unreasonable gamble imho
That’s why BFC offered the new contract. Clean sheet yesterday from Mr Reliable 7.5 out of 10. Look at Tom Heaton the other day. Innocuous argument with a goal post = out for the season. Or Hamer. Years and years of No.2 ing, then suddenly seems to be No.1 at Wayne Rooney’s DCFC.
Personal circumstances change. Maybe some job security is welcome at his age? maybe the pay rise? We’re 3 years on from when he joined, it could be something as simple as eg, the kids being settled at school.

Dare I say that ‘Brentford’ looks better on a cv nowadays than it would have done, up until a few seasons back?

Did he really have a meaningful save to make?
Can only deal with what is fired at him. His handling today was excellent as was his decision making. When required his decision making was spot on.

Hasn't got the distribution of Raya but with an inexperienced defence not putting them under pressure and going longer on occasion made perfect sense. He is solid and dependable and I for one am delighted to have such a capable No.2 and I most certainly am not going to question his ambition.

He's obviously a good guy to have around.

I was relieved when he took over last season and was surprised when he lost his place, because his distribution had improved a lot. Clearly, the club had a cunning plan. He must be good.

Daniels is plenty good enough and we need to keep him as sharp as possible. He deserves a go too.

True as it's good game time, but do keepers like Raya need resting?
Keepers don't need resting, but at this crucial time of the season Luke needs as much game time as he can get, and he deserves it through his loyalty to us, Imagine Raya getting injured just before the end of season run in

It's more a case of avoiding injury, with two far more important games coming up in the following week.

Just watched his ‘bees live’ q&a on YouTube. Great stuff. Seems a top lad, not full of cliches. Glad he wanted to stay as seems a big asset as a senior no.2 with the younger GKs having some time.

Surprised he signed a new deal. Good keeper but really should be regular player in L1

He’s made a conscious decision to look after his family and get job security and become a mentor rather than go for the uncertainty of a league one berth.

We are lucky to have him

The raras would dream of having a keeper as good as him. They reckon Lumley has cost them 10 goals this season.

I think we're just collecting good people to have around the club in these exciting times.

Over 45 years supporting the Bees, I can think of many seasons when you lived in fear of the keeper getting crocked as there was no capable back up. I can also think of a couple of seasons living in fear even when the #1 wasn't crocked(!) How fantastic it is to have a man with LDs ability and team ethic ready to step up. Several people are saying he could do a job in L1. Personally I think he would be #1 at around half of the current championship clubs

A MoM candidate. Showed great leadership and, yes, distribution. I just hope he doesn’t try to copy Raya’s dribbling. We get enough excitement.

:imwith: important player in the dressing room / training ground by the sounds of it too.

Going to play Devils Advocate here and ask whether LD might not be a better bet in certain types of game than DR. I am thinking particularly about last night against Leeds. Raya's distribution is the best I have ever seen from a bees keeper but that was really nullified against Leeds due to their intense high press and hence, he was kicking long for most of the game. We had a bit of an aerial bombardment to withstand: 8 corners alone. And from one of those we conceded. I don't recall Raya catching one contested high ball last night but instead opting to punch or try to punch many times. I can't help wondering if Daniels with his extra 12cm in height would have been able to catch some of those balls receiving the pressure which was constant last night. Food for thought?

Hindsight is always wonderful.

If Leeds had a different game plan, not won eight corners,if the match wasn't played in windy conditions etc this wouldn't have even been a consiideration

I admit to briefly sharing the same thought last night in thining we wouldn't have conceded from that corner with Daniels in goal. That said, Raya is so integral to how we play and his speed of thought is far quicker than that of Daniels, so it'd take a complete loss in form/confidence a la Bentley for Raya to be replaced. It was what was in front of Raya where the problems lie, particularly with Leeds' constant pressing and nullifying our attempt at playing out from the back.

Have no problem when Luke gets a game. Great keeper and great pro. However, Raya has been superb since he arrived. Yes, he has made a few mistakes recently. But on all occasions he has then gone on to have a pretty faultless rest of the game. That shows a very strong character and dropping him could, IMO, be extremely damaging for his confidence (which is a big part of his game along with his undoubted technical ability).

He reminds me of a Grobbelar type keeper (but with better distribution and without the tendency to accept a bung). Grobbelar would make wonderful saves but his confidence in his ability also brought the odd high profile error because he did things other keepers wouldn't even try.

Don't want to digress, so Raya is number 1 all day long for me but LD is a fantastic back up when needed.

Daniels would have conceded if he had received a push in the back as Raya did!
