Marketing 'premier membership'

Just had a call from Marketing at BFC, telling me about Lionel Rd (fair enough) and trying to promote premier membership (I think that was what it was called) for which the 1,500 best seats and facilities are to be set aside. He "wasn't trying to sell me anything" lol, but tried a hard-ish sell. I accept that there has to be such an area (though hopefully less visible than Wembley's empty seats), but was surprised to be told that membership would guarantee services for at least 25 games pa. I asked how they would guarantee 25 when there are only 23 league matches (which seemed to surprise him- and I didn't mention PL), and after a repeat question and a few seconds' pause, he came up with cup games (can't be guaranteed) and friendlies

I'd hope that someone marketing a football club would have been prepared for what seemed an obvious point. Were we to reach PL, would we need 6 meaningless friendlies to get up to2 25?

Yeah. I appreciate it wouldn't be the easiest task - offering a direct equivalent seat to people - as the layout will be different obviously.
It would be nice though if they perhaps offered a half way house like giving ST holders the option to pick a seat in the rough equivalent of their existing position/block first for a week let's say. Then offered ST's who've not taken that choice the option to purchase one elsewhere in the ground. Then open it up to general sale.

There definitely was. I imagine that it'll just be a free for all though for the ST holders. Which might mean the dispersal aspect comes into play and was just wondering if they could be extra helpful and stagger it as suggested in my previous post (posted after your reply) to perhaps make it a bit easier for people to keep to their same rough groups/locations if they wish to.

Phone them back quick! Book all 1500 seats for your fellow loyal supporters - surely they deserve the best seats in the house? - and let the new customers choose somewhere else.

I got the call today. The person at the other end rather lost interest a bit when I explained I was retired and would have no personal interest in corporate boxes or seats or dedicated area. However I can see the need for it and this type of marketing and wouldn't criticise the club for initiating it.

My initial post wasn't meant to be critical of them doing it. In current finances of game, it's (sadly) needed. I was more amused by the fact that the marketing team of a football club didn't seem to know how many games were in a season

don't get me wrong here, but I thought buying a season ticket last season and this season guaranteed you a seat where you wanted in the new ground? or was I wrong..

The Ealing Road bogs are being faithfully recreated at LR and passageways are being made deliberately narrow so we can continue with our beloved halftime crush where you don't know if you are queuing for a slash or a beer. This will only be available to those who buy a special ST with added "Nostalgia" feature. Shrewd marketing.

Don't forget a certain Rugby club is likely to be sharing and similar to Wembley. You'll be buying the seat for the year for any event.

You would tend to think so wouldn't you? I assume the club wouldn't start marketing something they weren't fairly certain was going to exist within a reasonable timeframe. So, good news, it appears!

Me, too, though obviously it is retired people that are most likely to be at home at 3 in the afternoon! When I explained that, he asked if I was interested in membership of a more general "sporting club" with bar facilities. I then explained that I drive 30 miles to each game and therefore don't drink on those occasions. I also think there will be a place for this sort of facility at Lionel Road (which he kindly asked if I had heard of!), but the market is not existing season ticket holders. As for the guaranteed number of games per season (25), I'm guessing this may also include London Irish, as corporate customers don't usually care which sport they are watching.

I did ask if his call meant that a start was imminent. He said early next year. I wouldn't take that as official confirmation though!
