Matthew Cox signs for Brentford B
Brentford Football Club are delighted to announce the signing of Matthew Cox from AFC Wimbledon on a three-year contract with a Club option of an extra year for an undisclosed fee.

Three years + a club option of an extra year for someone just turned 18. We must like him
Thompson is at FCM nowYes, welcome Matthew.
I was getting worried that all the keepers (Daniels, Andersson, Balcombe, Thompson(?)) were leaving...
He’s still left the building, is what I meant.Thompson is at FCM now
looks that way.. wonder whether Shepherd is off in some shape or form? The fact he's been given squad number 41, the departure of Gunnarsson on loan and the signing of Rees tells me Cox is now third-choice/first team training support.
Hope not, based on the B team game I watched. The fact he's been given squad number 41, the departure of Gunnarsson on loan and the signing of Rees tells me Cox is now third-choice/first team training support.
If NS is streets ahead of MC, he's presumably more in need of experiencing first team football.Hope not, based on the B team game I watched.
Shepperd is streets ahead of him at the moment. It’s a strange decision.
I am beginning to wonder if NS is fully recovered from his horrendous injury, or suffered a relapse. The signing of another B team goal keeper has added to my concern. If NS is streets ahead of MC, he's presumably more in need of experiencing first team football.
A loan move for NS before Cox would surely make more sense by that reckoning? So he can kick on and play. Over being our 3rd choice and playing b team football.

I’m not sure Shepperd is “streets ahead of him”.
He might be further along in his development given he is 21 (and three years older than Cox).
But he hasn’t been given a squad number and he’s not been involved with the first team (even in pre-season) whereas Cox has.
I expect we feel Cox has a much higher ceiling.
Perhaps we won't.Don’t disagree with that, but surely for this season, as a third choice and possibly on the bench for a cup tie, you’d want a keeper who could at least step up in an emergency situation. As you say, Shepperd is further in his development and when I’ve seen him he looks confident and dominant. Cox may well be seen as the better long term prospect, but he scared the life out of me when I saw him at Southend.
Purely for this season, I’m very surprised Shepperd hasn‘t got the nod. Otherwise, I don’t really see the point of keeping him.
Guessing this thread is about to become much more active. Is he still officially part of the B team if he ends up starting a senior game in the near future?
Yeah, officially he would be still be a B team player.Guessing this thread is about to become much more active. Is he still officially part of the B team if he ends up starting a senior game in the near future?
Or even better, if he has to start he performs spectacularly and keeps a series of clean sheets through December!Yeah, officially he would be still be a B team player.
But he’s been training up as the third first team GK all season, and been on the bench every week since Raya’s injury. Now he is in line to start on Saturday. So, although unofficial, he’s very much been a regular part of the first team group since he joined.
Hopefully from January onwards he can go back to playing regularly for the B team.
If the rumours on the Man U game thread have any substance…namely that Alvaro is rumoured to have Covid, that as we have used all 25 squad places we cannot sign a keeper…and as we have a squad keeper available, we cannot get an emergency loan…For what reason ?
But can can we play him before 1 Jan?Gunnarson is named as a U21 player with PL so we can play him 2021/22 Premier League squads confirmed

a player may be eligible to play in official matches ... if he has moved between two clubs belonging to associations with overlapping seasonsBut can can we play him before 1 Jan?
No.Has it actually been confirmed anywhere that Alvaro is out?
If Cox plays that's fine by me. Yes a big occasion but he's in the squad and there to step up.

Football Insider can exclusively reveal Brentford goalkeeper Matthew Cox had been selected to make a record-breaking debut against Man United.www.footballinsider247.com
That may not be the only inaccurate thing in that article. Not quite.

What an utterly c**p article. It clearly implies that Alvaro was set to be dropped in favour of Cox. Yeah, right.![]()

You may say that but I couldn’t possibly comment!Maybe rodders wrote the article?
He's in the squad. There's no alternative. Time to relax☺. I remember watching a teenage Pat Jennings playing for Watford against us in the early 60s.'Highly rated' and 'ready for Premier League action' aren't the same thing...I would be nervous if an 18 year old with zero professional appearances played in goal against Ronaldo...
I don't mean to sound too cynical, but I don't think it would be absolutely fine if he played.
Do newspaper check their facts or do they just copy each other? Not quite.

The B team don't seem to keep many clean sheets whoever plays in goal.Or even better, if he has to start he performs spectacularly and keeps a series of clean sheets through December!
