Just seen this posted on Facebook by @Paul Sceats, and thought it required a wider audience....

"For those that didn’t know, Mr Push-Up Brentford is my dad .... he turns 84 on Friday and sadly now has Alzheimer’s. Nonetheless he is healthy and I’m hoping I can get him along from the Isle of Wight for one last visit to GP ...possibly either Wigan or Blackburn game, as this will be his 75th year of coming down to GP (and over the past 49 years, I’ve either stood or sat next to him ... ) Tonight I’ll be getting my season ticket for the new stadium ... I hope he’ll be able to visit too one day next season too but he just won’t recognise anything familiar ... 😥

"Time moves on ; when dad first started coming along we were in the old first division ... I hope he gets to see us in the Premier ?

"PUSH UP BRENTFORD 🐝🐝🐝🐝"

I'm sure we all have encountered Push-Up Brentford and wish him very well and look forward to hearing his tactical advice very, very soon!

Seen (and heard) him times at away games up and down the country. Alzheimers is just an awful condition and has a cycle of at least 7 years. My Dad had it for 10 years before he eventually died. It creeps up without the patient realising. I hope 'push up' IS able to get to GP and LR.

I've sat with Tony and my dad and Paul for the last 35 years. My dad's been gone a couple of seasons now and Tony hasn't been for a while now, but I've still got the great pleasure of sitting with Paul. Leaving GP will be gut wrenching for me, so many great memories. But so excited to create many more at LR.

Best wishes to him. Such a shame Alzheimer’s has taken its toll.

He sat some rows in front of me and, of course, was at most aways, too. Those were the days when you could hear conversations among most of our fans as the tumbleweed whooshed past, let alone his constant advice to the players. I feel quite sad and really hope he can give that advice at a game or two this year. There's not many fans who are legends (although some are in their own heads) but he is one.

I lost my mum (years before she actually died) to Alzheimer’s, one thing one of the doctors said (and I think it can vary as there’s many types of dymensia) is that she probably noticed changes in her memory long before we did.

Back to topic, Push Up Brentford man is as synonymous with Griffin Park as Bernie Watson, the bloke with the Dr Who length knitted scarf, Lulus singing, Andy’s waistcoat, the female ginger steward walking along the New Road touch line, Gilham on the mic and a hundred things that will be lost like tears in the rain eventually.

Wow Paul's dad is a true Brentford legend. Saw him away at Doncaster's old race course ground a long time back. His support was relentless and put most of us to shame ! I really hope that he makes it back to GP for one last visit.

Great story.
Maybe the club could recognise his supporting feat in some way.

Hope he manages to get to one last game at GP, and that he can also get to LR.

Could be heard clear as a bell across New Road in the old days when we used to barely get 4000 punters through the gate.

The man has legendary status.

Very sad to hear, and I hope he can get down to the ground. I know how much he assisted Ronnie Jacobs when he was ill and up until Ron passed away. We all knew Ron but Mr Push Brentford went beyond that and assisted a friend who was in need. My best wishes to you Mr Push up Brentford, and although when I was much younger I dreaded sitting near him, but I can honestly say that I miss that call now.

I hope he’s able to make either game before the old girl goes.

I once sat next to him at Bournemouth and was amazed at the constant shouting of "Push up Brentford". Thinking about it he would be in his element now as we really do push up.

Well I never know PUB was a fellow islander! I'm thinking of travelling up for the Wigan game so if he opts for that one, let me know if I can help in any way. :sorted:

Does anyone know if Paul is a GPGer? I don't do the Twitter thing but would like to get in touch to see if I can be of assistance with transport for the Wigan game?

Push up Brentford

It should be in the chant Bible, our version of play up :sorted::bees:

I think we need to bring out the old " We're pushing up and keeping it tight song" very apt for this current Brentford side.

Best wishes to Mr P U B. That’s quite appropriate given G P’s USP!
As a long term but infrequent visitor (until recent retirement) I’m sad not to have been acquainted with his support and that of many other GP legends.
I’m pretty sure the club would look after him royally when he makes his last visit.

He is. But in name only. I have dropped him an email to bring his attention to this thread.

When I used to travel to away games I met him on many occasions, a truly delightful gentleman and I do hope he can make one more trip to the old girl , would be nice for the club to invite him as their guest

Can remember him fondly from away games both on the coaches and in the stands when going with my Dad. A true Brentford man and I'll be honest seeing this choked me a little. Its a horrible disease and I wish you all the very best. I really hope you get to visit GP and LR with him. Always remember the shout of 'Tight Brentford Tight' as the war cry straight after we had scored a goal.

Should have been the name of one of the lounges at lionel road or perhaps a motivational sign above the players tunnel.

A true legend of years gone by, is Mr Push Up Brentford - maybe he could be one of the 'celebs' doing the 'countdown' at half time?

I sit 2 rows in front and N506 isn't the same without him (and not just for the Wine Gums!) Looking forward to seeing him again in the Spring. Push Up Brentford, Tight Brentford... Repeat.

Top guy and Brentford legend.

Contact the club. I am sure they could get PUB in the new ground next month for a mini tour before his health deteriorated further.

I remember Preston away a few years back when he was in full voice and when we took the lead we all started singing “win when we push up we always win when we push up”it drew a smile from Tony.

I was reading the separate thread about Brentford characters and thought of Mr Push Up Brentford (Tony). I remember very fondly his infectious enthusiasm. I wondered if anyone had further news of Tony since the last post which is almost two years ago now.
Hopefully he is still pushing up and keeping it tight
