I know it’s only Scotland but the lad seems quality, such a shame but again we had at least identified him.

Definitely looks a good player. Shame it wasn't to be, but give me Wissa any day 😉

Hmmm not sure about that. This lad looks like a top talent. Nothing against Wissa but I’m gutted we won’t be signing this player as he looks like everything we need.

He looked frightening on the counter. Much easier with Scotland in gung ho mode.

Yes. THERE WILL BE NOTHING LIKE HIM EVER AGAIN.
Of course not, however players of his ilk, fast, skilful, young, relatively cheap (for PL), don’t come around that often so it’s a real shame this one’s not worked out. Ll

That short appearance, last night! Looks a real talent and a pity he chose Leverkusen.

Has Leverkusen actually met the asking price? AFAIK, we had our bid accepted but with his agent turning us down publicly, Leverkusen know they are the only bidders and maybe trying to low ball the offer…

I don’t think it matters to us, since I believe he said he would rather stay at Shaktar if it falls through.

An interesting point. Suspect that agent fees are a material issue for the....agent

Noble thought but the idea of playing just friendly games or whatever Shaktar do whilst the war carries on for the foreseeable future may change his mind.

I was excited about this when it first come up, he made his choice and said he didn't want to play for a team currently mid table in the Premier League. OK we move on.

True. Not sure what regular league if any they can play in, but they are in the champions league next season.

Was telling my mates before the game that he must be decent since Brentford had identified him.

He did look class, quite gutted this one isn't happening.

Mudryk 'wants a medium-level club where he can play continuously rather than a big club like Milan or Juventus'.

Agent really covering himself in glory over this deal.

If Leverkusen can offer him game time I don’t see what the agent is doing wrong. They have UCL football, don’t blame him one bit.

Agree, but I think where his agent went wrong was by publicly dismissing our bid/interest in his player. By doing so, he pretty much signalled to Bayer that they were the only bidders in town, doing a disservice to both player (in commanding a better salary) and Shaktar (who had already in principle agreed a bid from us allegedly). Sure, he’d almost certainly choose Bayer over us but there’s nothing like a competitive bidding process to maximise value.

Sterling work by Mudryk's agent in publicly stating that Leverkusen were the only show in town thus rendering the bidding process redundant.

(btw BL have stated this week that Moussa Diaby isn't being sold in this window).

Agent is not interested in who pays the highest transfer fee, they are interested in who will pay the highest agent's fee

Weird.

Still seems fair fetched for us to get involved again, unless the player forces the issue. The club don't want to sell full stop (apparently) and the player has already said thanks but no thanks to us.

Ps this article is from 31st May and other sources are still talking about it going ahead. Surely the "not for sale" story would have got around by now if true?

I couldn’t care less if he goes elsewhere, if he joins, great.

However, everything he says shows someone who is anything but a dickhead. Wants to go to a smaller club where he will play, wants to go to Germany for good reasons, sounds level headed, more interested in football than just money and is very polite when turning people down.

Another however, he didn’t look that great versus Scotland who are lg1/lower championship level so a lot of money for potential.

Looks like Shakhtar and Bayer have yet to agree a price with Shakhtar trying to get an auction going:

Whilst I don’t blame him whatsoever for wanting to go to Leverkusen, it would be very funny if the deal did fall apart after he rejected us

Interesting article on the athletics about agents trying to screw shaktar and other Ukrainian clubs over.

could be the case here with this transfer not going through yet.

I think this may rely on Leverkusen selling Moussa Diaby - as they'll need a replacement and will have cash to spare.

The longer this goes on, the more of a chance we have in signing him as the closer we get to the transfer deadline the more likely his agent is to blink. Although I wouldn't hold out too much hope at this stage...

Yes, they’ve just spent 13m euros on some Czech winger, and already have Paulinho on their books. Leverkusen have also been linked to Sinisterra at Feyenoord, so a little bit unclear at this stage where Mudryk fits

Hasn't the player said though the only place he'd go would be Leverkusen?

He did, at least via second hand sources. I distinctly recall that he was originally quoted as being quite flattered by our interest.

He wanted to come in January, but not anymore as clubs with UCL football have come in

Love it when an agent back themselves into a corner like this......whether he can extricate his client from the morass he has created is another matter entirely but I won't hold by breath.

I quite like the Donetsk owner and executive management team for their stand over this btw.

He can only go there if their bid is accepted. I'm sure they were delighted to hear of his insistence that he wanted to join - I suspect his agent released that comment - but he may have to make a different decision soon between other clubs or staying at Shakhtar if Leverkusen don't stump up the cash.

Wouldn't be the first time a player has said one thing and done another.

Agreed! But has already stated he has no desire to come here.
If I recall correctly, in the winter window we made an offer and he described it as flattering and said it was all in the hands of the owners. Of course nothing transpired on that occasion. I don’t expect him to turn up at the BCS anytime soon, however it wouldn’t be the first time a player suddenly decides they have a desire to do something they had no desire to do a very short time before
