Very promising looking B team summer
Russell from Palace
Peart-Harris and Dynel rumoured to be joining
Young-Coombes looking very promising
I think with the B team is that whilst it may not be the most productive academy ever, for the small money we put into it, it gives great reward
I read that it costs around 1m a year to run, as the players aren't on massive wages
Its great value for money but hopefully being a much more attractive club for young players we should start getting even more benefit out of it

A new one on me. £1M per year is a small amount of money. I'd like to buy a house in Madeira. I'm thinking £500K. Any chance of helping please?

I'd guess £1M per year is an outdated figure.

It may be outdated but this is one of the sites I could find suggesting it is cheaper

Surely the B team costs more than that. I’d assume at least one or two of the most promising players are on £2k a week, that’s £100k a year, which is a tenth of the £1m budget suggested.

I’d assume it costs a bit more than that to run, but we ultimately have a lot more control over the value of the players we go on to sell / develop, and that’s the key.

Also strongly linked to the young left back from Everton. We're actually now in a perfect position to pick up the next level of academy players, who have seen Sancho and co going elsewhere and progressing and have started turning their backs on the big boys' academys

We'll be paying future B-Teamers higher wages you'd imagine, as the quality if them increases. Either way it's still a better model than before and may be cheaper and provide better rewards.

I suspect that some of the compensation fees are pretty high too,

Maybe that’s just the staffing & operations costs, pre-player salaries and trading.

I’m wondering if this guy would be B team? Or straight into training with the 1sts?

Maybe somewhere inbetween.

Our b team is starting to look as if it’s at a standard that could compete at league level?

Guessing that's the plan? Young players in the B team who could potentially make a close to immediate impact on the first team squad...

I am bowled over by the quality and potential. I am sure it was always part of the master plan (or maybe an unexpected consequence) that by demonstrating a genuine belief in pathways to first team football youngsters at elite clubs confined eternally to being loaned out etc would beat a path to our door. Its fantastic.
By the way has anyone seen what happened to Brentford FC, they used to be in West London? They were charming and lovely day out with their pub on each corner, old fashioned ground with crap facilities and a team worse than the facilities. I wonder what happened to them?

I believe the old academy used to cost £2M per year to operate. I would be very surprised if the B Team runs on a £1M per annum budget. The quality of players we're now signing, I agree that anywhere between £1K to even £2.5/3K for some is not probably out of the question.

I thought we had to have an academy to be in the Premier League?!
I believe Phil and Rasmus had a meeting with the head of player development at the PL and explained our process.

I've not heard anything since so would imagine they're happy with what we do.

I don't think the '3 biros' pic meant 3 signings imminent. I think they just used the first chewed up biro image they found.
