Well its almost that time of the year again.

Am in the very fortunate position of being able to attend the 49ers first home game of the season against the Atlanta Falcons (Thanks to Santa Barbara Bee ) which promises to be a very spicy affair with Jim Mora Jr returning to S.F and the return of Michael Vick.

Don't expect a very good season for the 49ers, probably end up between 4-12 and 6-10, we will miss Owens and Garcia. Our pre-season has been woeful.

As for contenders to this seasons Superbowl, I'm going for Philly. The Owens factor will tilt things their way and their D has always been strong. Expect Carolina to be strong again and never rule a 3peat from the Pats.

Oh and Ricky Williams what an earth is he playing at ???

The season officially opens tonight with New England taking on the Colts (what an opener!!). The telecast will have an 8 second delay so that the NFL can censor any 'costume malfunctioning' on the part of Jessica Simpson during the half-time show (i.e. to prevent repeats of the Janet Jackson flashing 'incident' during the Super Bowl). Lenny Kravitz is also performing. The big question is, why?

Five will show every Monday night game live, from week 1. Show starts at 1.35 and will include weekend highlights (no separate highlights show this season). When baseball season ends the late night Sunday game will also be live. Mike Carlson back as studio expert but Mark Webster is not returning.

I'm just delighted my beloved Redskins are live on Sky this Sunday. And while I've always steered clear of having any Redskins on my fantasy team (in a keeper league) I'll make an exception for Clinton Portis (who I drafted when he came into the NFL).

Anyone else in fantasy leagues? I also drafted Jamal Lewis and Kevan Barlow. hey, I've got good record with rookie RBs...

Hi Jam Jar. I agree about the Niners and they could wind up with their season highlight being the landing of the first draft pick. I like the Patriots with Tom Brady at QB. I met Joe Montana today and he told me that was his choice.

If you tell me your seat and section numbers I'll try to find you at the Falcons game if you're not too far away from mine in Section 10 Upper Reserve.

Great game tonight - I thought both teams looked impressive. The Colts should have won but turnovers killed them. I'm so jealous that you got to meet Joe Montana!!! Good luck to the Niners against Vick and Co. - they're probably going to need it. Just as along as you beat the Rams at least once this season.

I just got back from a 6000 mile round trip to Toronto and drove past the Bengals' new stadium in Cincinnati - it looks amazing - and stayed next to Arrowhead in KC - it still looks impressive. I also managed to give the finger to the Rams' indoor home (The Loftus Rd. of the NFL) as I negotiated the tangled downtown freeways of St. Louis.

IMO there are only 2 sports worth watching these days;
American Football & Rugby League.....soccer doesn't even come in my top 5 list! IMO Rugby League is technically better as you get a lot more onside kicks lol but the television presentation of American Football is a mighty fine product...enabling you to grab umpteen snacks/beers without missing any of the action!

Sorry to see that Jam Jar and California Bee didn't get the result they wanted but hope they had a great day out. The Niners did well to come back to give themselves a chance to tie but they're really going to struggle if the offensive line can't protect the QB.

It will be a long season for the Niners I'm afraid. One bright spot...I thought Ken Dorsey looked quite promising at QB. Rattay is a jorneyman at best and also very fragile. By the end of the year I expect Dorsey to have become "the man".

The defence was pretty good against Michael Vick but the offensive line is in need of serious repair. I think the most urgent need is for a passionate owner and a passionate head coach. John Yorke is not a football man and does not seem prepared to invest in the club, either emotionally or financially. Dennis Erickson has never shown that he has any fire in his belly. The whole tenor of his coaching style is passive. No drive, no imagination, no toughness.

Hi California Bee, sorry I didn't see you at the 49ers game against the Falcons, didn't have any internet access after the 10th, otherwise I would have tried to find you.

Really enjoyed my first NFL game despite the result, the atmosphere was fantastic especially at the start, never ever been in a stadium where there was so much noise, and when the Falcons lost the ball early on the noise increased even more.

Anyway still in the States right now (in Houston, Texas) so plenty of good NFL shows on, but no premiership or league 1 action

I thought the niners played well in the season opener and by all means they played well against the Saints, fumbles are killing us though. Tough game next against the Seahawks, if we lost that we could easily become demoralised and really bomb out.

Biggest suprise is the Chiefs at 0-2, they really need a defense.

Having a great time in the States anyway, San Francisco is by far the best place I've visited so far, didn't rate LA and Vegas was OK.

At last the 49ers win a game and what a comeback. It seems like the 49ers only start to play in the second half. Putting things in perspective it was only the Arizona Cardinals but with our crippling injury list and lack of experienced pro's in the line-up a good effort.

The Patriots just continue to amaze, they have now won 19 straight games, I wonder who will end their run, my money's on New York Jets.

However, the nucleus for the championship team was already being formed (getting Ronnie Lott probably turned the team around) and it only takes the addition of one or two players to make the difference.

Rattay wound up with great stats. I was possed off as we left the stadium with the score 28-12 to Arizona and five minutes left. First time I've ever left before the final whistle. Bummer!
