Yes its that time of the year again. Sunday nights will never be the same again.

Good to see the 49ers get off to a start - thumping the hapless Bears 49-7. Coach Erikkson (not Sven) seems to have a more adventurous play-book - more than Marricuci who was always conservative. Anyway the real tests lie ahead - the Rams seem out of sorts - Mike Martz is a coach under pressure.

Other suprise results - the Texans winning in Miami and Minnesota in Green Bay.

My tip for the SuperBowl - New York Giants - Eagles will be close.

I gotta a bad feeling about my team, the Dallas Cowboys. We lost the opening day game again. With road trips to the Giants and then to the Jets, we will be 0-3 before the end of September !.

Miami crack me up. They normally start the season red hot given the weather is generally warm around the U.S in September. When December arrives the Dolphins are fodder and always fade away. Maybe it will happen in reverse but I doubt it.

Also laugh at the New Orleans Saints who have choked in the last seasons when well placed to make the play-offs.

and what's the word about the Broncos this year ? Had a few years in transition after Elway but are they getting close now ?

I'd say they are still kinda in transition. Jake "the snake" Plummer is new at QB and had a terrible debut last week. He needs to improve and needs to develop a raport with Lelie who is a 2nd year WR who has bags of potential.

Clinton Portis at RB is an absolute stud though - and doing a great job for my fantasy team! :D

Another batch of shock results this week.

The Pack losing against the hapless Cardinals :D

The Rams blowing a lead against the Seahawks :D

And the 49ers losing at home to the Browns

Anyone watch the Green Bay - Kansas City game last night. Best game of the season so far. A real offensive shootout. Pleased that KC stuck in there. Their D-fense was shredded to bits by Ahman Green and Favre but Trent Green had a great day. Not sure they can win the Superbowl with their D - but they will go far. Its the Carolina Panthers that should be called contenders. Beating the Buccs and Colts on the road -

Less said about the 49ers the better, another performance full of errors, missed extra points, fumbles, dropped catches. Owens and Garcia are not playing well. we'll do well to get a 6-10 season now. Fire Donohue and get rid of the aura of Walsh.

couldn't believe the Chiefs won it - I was working in the other room and popped in to get latest score. Saw the Pack were 17 up in 4th Qtr and decided that'll do - Went back just in time to see Chiefs Winning touchdown. 40-34 Wish I'd watched the whole game. Noticed Dante Hall blew it  No punt/kick off touchdown returns this week, although I thought I heard he was close on one occassion to breaking through. Shame Broncos couldn't stop him last week, then it would be us at 6-0 rather than KC.

I had the great pleasure in watching the later game naturally which couldn't have been more opposite a game. Defence ruled basically for the whole game. 3 Turnovers by the Broncos (stats showed that over 90% of games were lost by teams with 3 or more turnovers) - thankfully, DB were an exception. Maddox was sacked 7 times  Denver eventually scored a 4th Qtr touchdown this season (the last team to do so). Plummer made the right decision to sit out this one and Elam knocks a chip shot 47 yard FG over to win it in the last second.

You obviously a Bronco fan then SC ? That second game was pretty dire. Just had a feeling that KC&GB would produce an offensive shootout. Denver will be a play-off contender this season but no more. The Raiders falling apart is a bonus for you guys.

After week 1, I really thought it was the start of another bad season for the Cowboys. But after week 6, we are sitting 4-1 at the top of the division after 4 straight wins. However we are definatly not SuperBowl contenders, but Bill Parcells has really turned the team around. :)

That's three games where the Niners have thrown it away. I am totally unimpressed with Erickson to this point. He's the only NFL coach who seems on the same level with the sideline dollies from the networks. As for the aura of Walsh, if only we had it now!!!!!

dire ? - hmmm, a different type of spectacle - OK, yep dire

Play-offs for starters, then you just never know in one off games although could do with pipping the Chiefs and getting home field advantage. Unlikely maybe but we can dream.

Raiders - who are yer :D They had their moment of glory last year rofl

Just getting back into it having finally got Cable - the memories of Elway and the back to back Championships are still too fresh in the mind (at least the earlier humiliations are now a distant memory, the days when the 49'ers were good). Sky's double header seems ok but disappointed with coverage on NASN although can't fault their baseball coverage.

I doubt the Bronco's & 49ers will see the heady heights of the 80's and 90's. Sad what happened to Terell Davis of the Bronco's. I don't think they will progress beyond the wild card games. Plummer is a loose cannon will have good weeks will have bad. But you never know in the N.F.L. I tipped the Giants and they look flakey at the mo.

Is NASN coverage any good ? How much do you pay for subscription ? Sky's LIVE coverage is excellent. However there is still a lack of a preview show and a decent review/highlights show. Their one hour higlights show is dismal.

Didn't even know about NASN before I got cable and I know it was unavailable to me when I first got the package but then lo and behold, one day I was flicking through the channels and there it was, available to view :D I'm A Telewest customer as opposed to Sky though so it may be a special offer although it's been 2 months now.

I have NASN too- it just kinda appeared- and has been great for watching my Red Sox too.
Anyway, I am a Patriots fan and we have got off to a 4-2 start. Our problem this season was meant to be that we weren't gonna be able to run the ball but we've been doing that OK. The defence has been strengthened with Rosevelt Colvin and Ted Washington, but Brady has been inconsistent. With a bit of time we will mature into a playoff team but little more I fear.
Anyway, I stand to make a bit of money if KC win the AFC this year (I got 7/1 at the start of the season) and I am pleased with my investment thus far, but Carolina do look good...

I maybe wrong, but I don't think NASN have broadcasting rights to "live" NFL. They may well be able to screen a highlights show or pre-game features. Their coverage of collage games is good though.

NASN is 9.99 per month on SKY.

I saw the Yankees/Sox game at the weekend and the atmoshere at Fenway was like a British football match !!

Correct. NASN only have rights to pre-game and magazine style shows. It is £9.99 on both Sky and one of the cable channels. The other (either Telewest or NTL) is curently providing it free of charge.

Both cable channels have recently started to offer Sky Sports Extra (the channel which broadcasts live NFL) as well. I'd like to think this was to keep us football fans happy, but in reality I think it is because the Champions League games are on Sky Sports Extra.

Big result for the 49ers last night beating the Bucs 24-7. The D again performed well with interceptions and sacks galore. Also suprised that Hearst & Barlow had so much success against the Bucs defense gaining over 200+ yards. That will shut Sapp up for a while. Important the 49ers win on the road at Arizona before the crunch showdown with Rams who are hot right now.

Minnesota keep winning  Carolina were exposed last night.

The Giants falter again, their goes my pre-season tip !

Alright, alright :(

Down to our 3rd QB now unless Plummer gets fit quick. By the sounds of it, Beuerlein had a pretty hard time, sacked 5 times, threw 3 interceptions and gets injured in the 3rd qtr with a dislocated finger in his throwing hand. And I thought Pittsburgh's defence was tough.

Interesting that Carolina were 'found out'....my money on Kansas City looks better every day.

However, I am a happy man that the Pats shut down Ricky Williams. Our defence are playing tough at the moment. If Brady, Brown, Faulk et al get going then who knows? An opening of 5-2 means that we should be aiming for topping the AFC East, which is always the toughest division...

Suprised at Beuerlein's performance, he is an experienced veteran but has failed to impress. Wild card at best for Bronco's and that depends on the snake coming back to fitness.

Seriously impressed with the Patriots, given the fact they have the most injury problems esp defense. Bill Belichick is doing a great job - fantastic coach !!

Agreed. I was at the game and the 49ers dominance was even bigger than the scoreline. The Niners dropped three catchable balls in the end zone (2 by Owens), missed three field goals and gave the Bucs their TD when Bronson mis-timed his interception leap. The score could have been 54-0.

Kansas City improve to 7-0.

Looking at their schedule

October 26, 2003 Buffalo Bills 7:30 PM ESPN+
November 9, 2003 Cleveland Browns 12:00 PM CBS
November 16, 2003 at Cincinnati Bengals 12:00 PM CBS
November 23, 2003 Oakland Raiders 3:15 PM CBS
November 30, 2003 at San Diego Chargers 3:15 PM CBS
December 7, 2003 at Denver Broncos 3:15 PM CBS+
December 14, 2003 Detroit Lions 12:00 PM FOX
December 20, 2003 at Minnesota Vikings 4:00 PM CBS+
December 28, 2003 Chicago Bears 12:00 PM FOX

I reckon Kansas City will go on and get a 14-2 record.

Tough games at Denver and Minnesota.

Minnesota currently 6-0 have a much tougher schedule having to face the Rams,Kansas City,Seattle,Green Bay and the Giants.

Can't believe the 49ers :( woeful bunch of players. Owen Pochman missed another 2 field goals, he has cost us 3 games this season. Needs to be fired along with the useless punter Billy LaFleur. Think a kicker is a priority for draft picks next season. The Lions better watch, the 49ers are intent on setting an away losing streak. 6-10 season at best. 4 close games lost.

Kansas City keep going from strength to strength.

Hey California Bee got your PM and pleased to see your not affected by those fires. I believe they had to move an NFL game last week from San Diego to Arizona.

The 49ers continue their Jekyl and Hyde season much like Brentford really. Excellent win over the Rams which ensures joint bragging rights for the season. D-fense was magnificient especially against the run. Rattay did a solid job though if Garcia is fit I'd take him back.

Still don't reckon we'll finish more than 8-8 though, our road form has been poor and the team is too inconsistent. Reckon the Bucs are in deep trouble also. Oakland is finished for the season.

Good game on Sky - watched Indy-Miami - Miami choked big time when handed the chance to snatch an undeserved win. What on earth has happened to Ricky Williams -

Yes, Jam Jar, it was fun to be at the'Stick yesterday. An excellent performance all-round including the special teams for a change. Rattay did extremely well and although it is still Garcia's job, Rattay showed that he will step in if Garcia is injured or plays poorly. There is still a thread of a chance for the Niners if they can find some consistency. The rest of their schedule is not too bad except for a visit to Green Bay. I am not optimistic but the talent is plainly there if Erickson can keep them at top level the rest of the way.

Absolutely delighted with the 49ers demolition of the Rams over the weekend (maybe Martz should play Kurt Warner's wife at QB - at least she has some fighting spirit). However, the overall inconsistency of the NFC teams suggest that the AFC will win the Super Bowl this year - the Chiefs, Titans, Patriots, Dolphins and Broncos (if Plummer returns) are the pick of the crop right now.

Agreed SBB. Hard to bet against the Chiefs with Dick Vermiel at the helm and a really, really easy second half schedule.

What happened to the Houston Oilers. When I used to watch NFL this was the team I followed.
