Not that I think there's much chance, but if an u21 HG player signed for the B Team can they be promoted to the senior team?
He could be promoted to the first team for sure, he just wouldn't be eligible to play in first team matches until next season.

Does mean that he can get acclimatized to Brentford way of playing and get up to speed with the B team.

Sure, plenty of B teamers have been signed outside the English transfer window and while not eligible for the first team until the opening of the next window, they are free to play for the B team.

So we can pay a fee for any player out there and stick them in the B team? I thought we could only sign "free agents" outside of the window.

So, struggling with this and maybe because I'm thick, so.....

Transfer window closed

Contract not cancelled. May be in days / weeks / months ahead 🤷‍♂️

Plays as one the trialist family for the rest of the season 🤷‍♂️

This gets announcement, if it happens, 1st July

All that said, hope we get another potentially great talent

If it is a pre contract agreement I doubt that Rangers will allow him to play for us as a trialist, he will be expected to play for Rangers as his current contract demands. Should he transfer to us now, or at anytime prior to 1st July we will have to have come to an agreement with Rangers, and for them to agree to his transfer to us. In this case I assume that some form of compensation with have to be paid by us. In any event he will not be allowed to play or sit on our bench until the next Transfer window opens.

My pal here is Rangers daft. He really rates this guy and cant believe they are letting him go. They got him from Chelsea and apparantly hes home sick. Rangers won a big under 18 tournament in Qatar which included Bayern Munich, Real Madrid, Roma PSG etc and he was the star player. Could be another good bit of business from the DoF's if all goes through

We can sign contracted players outside transfer windows, but until the next window opens, we can only play them in the B team.

If that’s true then 100kmis a real snip!
Post Brexit we are going to have to scour UK more for talent and that includes Scotland and Northern Ireland, both countries having produced some of the greatest talent ever to have played the game.

There must me a lot of faith that this kid is going to progress well, paying £100000 is a hell of a lot of money for what could be a BSquad player

Just checked and he didnt actually get player of the tournament but got great reviews and right enough all them teams were in it. Not sure if links allowed but if you google "rangers under 17 tournament win talk sport" you will see he seems a really exciting prospect.

We’ve paid more than that for B team players I believe
Not sure which other B Squad players have cost us that much, yes we have agreed with other clubs to sign their players

I‘m not knocking the B Squad method. We got stuffed a couple of times with Manchester clubs “ poaching our lads” from our Academy , so to me it was the correct thing to do. The B Squad has been very useful in producing players and helping some first team player to get back from injury

Few years ago we would have thought that was a lot for a first team player. How times have changed

If he's as good as claimed, he will be a snip at that price, and the price is well affordable given the profit margin made on our last two sales, Our DoFs get most things right, And due to the new Brexit restrictions on foreign players this is where we need to be looking, and with this young lad we have made a very early move for him, rather than waiting for the next window and him perhaps going elsewhere, I would say a very shrewd move by us, well done to all concerned if he does indeed sign on the dotted line.

I remember years ago I couldn't believe a club had paid £100,000 for a non-league player, a certain J.Vardy, didn't turn
out too bad did it?

I would guess at Roerslev, Bidstrup, Mogensen and Winterbottom and perhaps Sorensen.

Didn't Bidstrup cost us quite a lot, more than Janelt even?

They are not letting him go, he is out of contract 30th June, so home sickness, or not the end of a contact is just that, nothing they can do about it.

The more I read on this thread the more I get confused so I picked this bit out of the first post

FootballTransfers can exclusively reveal that Brentford have won the race to sign the exciting, young forward and will make the deal permanent when he signs for the club before the end of the January transfer window.

They also say he is out of contract this summer.

Two points
1) did he/has he signed a pre contract deal which is not a transfer
2) where does the sum £100000 come from as come from is it compensation

The report from Football Insider implies that we have agreed a deal with Rangers not with Young Coombes, but then it states it is a pre contract agreement that is being signed. This does not add up. A pre contract is with the player, and not with the club. If we are paying £100 K to Rangers then he will join as soon as the contract is signed if with the player then he will agree and sign a contract now and join in the summer. There need not be a signing war in the summer if YC signs a pre contract now, and sees out his contract with Rangers. Whatever, as you say it would seem a smart investment.

The last bit to me throws more confusion on the topic

In comparison I think Bidstrup cost more than Janelt, but happy to be corrected. 100K is small change these days.

You have a good point, where does the £100,000 come from? If it exists, and it many be a lazy journalist making it up, so if it exists it will either be paid to the player as a signing on fee, or to the club as a transfer fee. As stated correctly above if it is a transfer fee the player will join us from the moment of signing. If it is a signing on fee then the document signed will be a pre contract agreement. The latter means that the player will continue with Rangers until 1st July when he will join us and will be registered on the opening of the summer transfer window. In either scenario the player will not be able to play for our first team until next summer. If the mysterious £100000 exists then IMO it will represent good value to whomsoever it is paid. To add to your confusion if it is a pre contract agreement I have difficulty seeing any benefit accruing to Rangers if the player remains in Scotland. He is after all only a youth team player so what does it matter if he comes to us now perhaps that is where the apparent difficulty lies? As Scotland FA is a foreign FA Compensation does not apply as Compensation is an internal England FA arrangement, so if it is a pre contract we will get him for free, however, as he is a sort after young man he will demand his share of our good fortune as a signing on fee.

If it is the out of contract issue that is confusing, then because he is currently playing for a club, Rangers, in a foreign jurisdiction, Scottish FA, then we are allowed to speak directly to him within 6th months of his contract expiring, in this case 1st January 2021
