Sheff U refused to pay £20m for Neal, preferring to spend £17m(?) on Ollie McBurnie instead.

And after 6 goals in 39 league games for them, they've now lashed out £23.5m on a teenaged striker, Brewster.

Doh!
I thought Neal was their first choice but he preferred Brighton. Brewster is easily worth that IMO (depending on Liverpool's buy-back clause).

NM might have preferred BHA but they came in very late i.e. if Sheff U hadn't fannyed around and just stumped up the £20m they'd have had him.
I think he decided very early on that he didn't want to go there. You could read it on a Sheff U board but they never actually bid for him as they were told by Maupay's reps not to bother. So the story goes.

Wasn't there a thread about NM on the Sheffield United forum with more pages than any of their own players?

Considering the team he's playing for, his goalscoring rate is very good.

I wonder if a bigger club might take a punt on him next year if he keeps this up throughout the season. Better finisher than Watkins, who's just gone to a 'bigger' club for serious money.

Bold move to leave out your top (and most likely) goal scorer whatever has happened.

Any idea why he was left out of the squad against Spurs?
Brighton striker Neal Maupay dropped against Tottenham due to attitude problems

There are fears within Graham Potter's squad that Maupay has got carried away with his own success

Neal Maupay was dropped from the Brighton squad in an attempt to bring the club’s striker back down to earth.

Brighton manager Graham Potter surprisingly left Brighton out of his matchday squad for the defeat to Tottenham Hotspur on Sunday, even though it meant he did not field an out-and-out striker.

Potter dodged questions over Maupay’s absence, claiming it was for ‘tactical reasons’ without going into any detail.

But it was understood that the move was to remind Maupay that no one player is more important than the team.

Graham Potter doesn't know how to handle Neal. You lock him in a dark shed and feed him raw meat on match day.
....make sure you get top dollar when Bloom/Fatboy Slim come calling.

You’ve gotta be able to manage and lead people with an ego nowadays.
Every other player could be a millionaire, so managing such personalities that result from this is an art form. how did Fergie do it

Although he may have been the best at it, Fergie didn't always get it right: eg he lost both Pogba and Pique as youngsters and had to bin Beckham when his ego got too much.

"Maupay is a complex personality. He is cerebral off the pitch, reading books by South African explorer Mike Horn before matches. "

Any talk of "managing" him needs to bear in mind that, as far as I'm aware, he was a very popular guy here behind-the-scenes - don't remember hearing about him being difficult...

People can change. Especially when big money and success is involved.

Yep. And people can manage other people ineffectively too.

He's clearly got an attitude problem and Brighton can't (and shouldn't) have to shoulder that burden.

We should probably offer to take him back off them, it's only fair.
Don't think he would come back now as his mate Benny has departed, maybe Wet Spam will rescue him from the Seagulls claws.
