IFAB clarifies Handball Law
Other clarifications were approved at the AGM for inclusion in the Laws of the Game 2021/22, including to Law 11 (the Law 12 definition for handball, whereby the arm ends at the bottom of the armpit, must be used when judging whether a player is in an offside position) and Law 12 (the offence of using a “trick” to circumvent the Law against the goalkeeper handling the ball from a deliberate kick from a team-mate will apply at goal kicks; the instigator will be cautioned).Every time they "clarify" it, it gets worse...

Does this mean the ref will now have 52 cards ?
I thought exactly the same.I'm having trouble envisaging the situation where this arises.
But why is that a pressing, urgent issue?I've had a think, maybe the goal keeper chips it up and then receives a header back from one of his own players in the box where I guess under current laws he can catch.

But has anyone actually circumvented any law? I've not read anything about it.I guess someone has worked out how they can use it to their advantage so in the review it has been outlawed

Maybe, but I've not seen anything that gives cause for concern. Has anyone?Perhaps some unintended consequence of the fact the ball doesn't need to leave the box now

"West Ham" not "we"think Declan Rice at Sheff Utd last season. That is a perfect example. Ball blasted at him half a foot away. It hits his hand. 10 seconds later we “score”
I’m not saying you a wrong, but that hardly feels like a trick?!I've had a think, maybe the goal keeper chips it up and then receives a header back from one of his own players in the box where I guess under current laws he can catch.

And even if it did happen in a game, the opposition would stop it immediately by a high press?
Good to see FIFA/IFAB are concentrating on the big issues.
Have to say this is typical nonsense. Numerous opportunities exist where a change in the law would make a significant impact on the game both in how its played, and how it is watched, yet they choose to change something that firstly no one has noticed being an issue, and secondly will make little or no difference to the game in how is played or watched. Absolute garbage. I cannot think of another multi million pound industry that is so badly run, it beggers belief.Maybe, but I've not seen anything that gives cause for concern. Has anyone?
Just realised this was announced on the 100th year anniversary of Tommy Coopers birth.I don’t get the trick part either, describing something as a trick is hardly providing clarification unless there is another law in there somewhere clarifying this part.
Yes!I wish they would attempt to stop the players who prevent the taking of a quick free kick. The players who do it, should have 10 minutes on the “naughty step”. Then the team awarded the free kick are able to use the set piece as they wish, and none of this ‘when the referee is ready’
If such a thing is done then surely it would always run the risk of an own goal.Perhaps the 'trick' is that the goal kick is taken such that it is deliberately deflected off a defender back to the goalkeeper to pick up.
