I was torn last night between watching us or going to Whyteleafe - Burgess Hill. I opted to watch us on TV and regret it. Whyteleafe won 5-0 in front of the biggest league crowd for years with the game halted at one point after a smoke bomb was thrown on the pitch.

Sadly the Bees get no benefit from me sat at home watching on a screen so I’m now on loan to Whyteleafe until such time as fans can come back or, more likely, non-league football is shut down due to Covid.

First away game on Saturday - Chesham in the FA Trophy. COYL

Friday 30th October
Fa trophy 3rd round qualifying
Wantage town 1-4 North leigh
Unsure of attendance but it was a sellout
£8 admission £1.50 programme £4 strongbow £3.50 bacon cheeseburger £1.50 bovril
Chap count 20
16-4 in Wantage favour
Got a bit lively after leigh sub was sent off 50 seconds after coming on. Chaps singing cheerio to him encouraged sub to jump barrier to join them which needed leigh captain to escort him away.

Saturday 31 October
Fa Trophy 3rd (I think) qualifying round
Chesham 2-2 Whyteleafe (Chesham win 4-2 on pens)
Att: Not yet announced - approx 350 I reckon
Away: 30
Chaps: 5

My first and quite possibly last away day for a while. Having set off from Caterham at 12.50 in torrential rain I thought there’s no way the game would be on so pulled in at Cobham services to reassess. Chesham’s Twitter account at the time said the groundsman was working hard but anymore rain would be problem.

I went into M&S and purchased a firecracker chicken sub, a bag of cheesy puffs and a Diet Coke and returned to the Coke to check my options. Merstham (close to home) - off. South Park (Reigate) - off. I pondered whether to make a short diversion to Leatherhead or continue and opted for the latter, arriving at Chesham to 2.45. Fans’ car park was full but there was plenty of room in the unattended players’ and officials car park so I settled on that.

Whyteleafe raced into a 2-0 lead before Chesham had a goal chalked off for offside. They then pulled one back at the start of the second half before missing a penalty. At this point The Leafe looked to have weathered the storm but missed a penalty of their own to seal it (saved by Sam Beasant, son of Dave) before Chesham bundled the ball home with the very last kick in the 94th minute. They probably deserved it, to be fair. Both teams played excellent football throughout with Chesham controlling possession and Leafe happy to counter.

Chesham went through on pens.

Fa trophy 3rd round qualifying
Enfield Town 8-1 Ramsgate
£11 admission £4 cheeseburger £2 bovril
Est 250 attendance chap count 10(5 each)
One of those games where a side scores with virtually every attack. Found out after game Ramsgate arrived to play 3-5-2 due to injured defenders then lose another in the warm up so their original plan goes out the window.

Yeah I considered that as well but don’t think I’d get away with consecutive nights so opted for Horsham.
You need some bargaining power

I wont be going to a game at the weekend so instead I need to go on Wednesday.......

Sat 31 Oct
FA Trophy 3rd qualifying round
Corinthian Casuals (2) 5 Hendon (2) 4
Attendance : 417 (chaps 0; former England test match cricketers 2)
Admission : £11 programme : £2.50 Beer (bottled Pride) : £3.70 Sausage bap £1.50

As the score line suggests, a cracking end-to-end cup tie! A penalty apiece, an absolute peach of a 25-yarder curled into the top corner of the net to make it 5-3 to Casuals, and a late goal for Hendon to give rise to a very tense 5 minutes of time added on. Possibly not the match for anyone who places defensive solidity above creative flair, however!

Pretty sure that’s the first 5-4 i have ever seen, not having been to Blackpool in 1979 or Bradford in 1985...

The Southern League have e mailed clubs saying matches will only be played midweek if BOTH clubs agree

Typical !!!

Only one match is still on Tuesday and one on Weds

To be fair some of games were off due to FA Trophy

Tuesday 3 November
Isthmian Premier Division
Horsham 2-1 Corinthian Casuals
Attendance - 600 (sell out)
Away - approx 50
Chaps - A handful from each side who apparently had a set-to outside the bar before the game
Admission - £11
Beer - £4.95 pint of Moretti

Very good game between two good footballing sides. Horsham went into a two-goal lead early on. The first was pretty spectacular with the scorer flicking up a pass on the edge of box before hammering it past the keeper. For the first half an hour Casuals were poor but really came it in the second half and could’ve easily snatched a point.

Lovely new ground and set-up. Easy to drive to but I’m assuming poor for pubs etc as it’s just off a dual carriageway. Didn’t get a chance for a proper look around as having parked up I sat and watched the first half of the Bees game on my phone

One more!

Wednesday 4 November
FA Trophy 3rd round qualifying
Merstham 1-3 Carshalton
Entry £10
Attendance 166 (approx 50 away)
Chaps 2
Beer - didn’t see any
Tea £1

A one-sided affair. The winning margin should’ve been far greater. Carshalton another decent footballing side. 48 year old Barry Hayles played the full game for Merstham.

My first visit there. Slightly strange ground though I’m not sure whether it felt more surreal because of it being the night before lockdown.

Anyway, that’s it for who knows how long. Nine games and four grounds done.

No chaps? Plenty behind the goal. Did you not hear the the constant singing from the Casuals end for the last third of the game? Described as the best atmosphere ever at a Casuals game, even the manager said he wanted to leave the dugout and join the fans behind the goal. Incredible scenes for an incredible game.

Few of us Bees went last night. Game delayed by 45 mins because of Haringey team getting stuck in traffic. Bloody freezing by the end!

Convincing win for K’s, 3-1. Crowd was 346 from memory and no chaps. Haringey seemed an odd bunch.

Cracking game👏Quite feisty at times. Haringey fans sung virtually the whole of the second half, fair play to them, whilst K’s only sung when they scored 😉, but it was bloody cold, match finished at 10.20
Snack bar closed at 9 🤔☹

i don’t equate singers with ”chaps”!
But yes, the atmosphere was excellent!

Whyteleafe 1-0 Chichester City
Att: 175
Away: None that I noticed
Chaps: 10 or so
Programme: N/A
Beer: £3.50 per bottle
Food: £2.50 per sausage roll/pasty etc

Come 2pm I was torn between wandering half an hour down the road to the watch ‘The Leafe’ or relenting and paying for a stream as I did on Tuesday night. Glad I chose the former.

Watching online is all well and good but nothing like seeing an 80th minute goal-line block in the pissing rain as the home side clung on.

Whyteleafe play some lovely football for a Step 4 team. So much so that their assistant manager has just been poached by Man City to coach their U-15s.

There’s an air of uncertainty about the club ATM. It’s accepted that Harry Hudson, the young manager who’s got them playing superb stuff will soon move onto bigger things, while yesterday the ground was sold at auction for £475K.

No one seems to know who bought it.

Regarding the ground sale, the mystery buyer has been revealed to be none other than Ian Rush.

Why ? Chertsey starting again dec 19th hopefully
Main issue is that so many of the top non elite leagues have tier 3 teams in them. Think Chertsey's league may be the one exception out of the 11 step 3/4 leagues. They've said all along that they won't play without fans and of course now you have the headache of no booze sales without meals in tier 2 which is a problem for clubs.

The Clubs in membership of the Northern Premier, Southern and Isthmian Leagues (the Trident Leagues) met earlier this week to consider the challenges and issues brought about by the reintroduction of Tiers after the raising of the nationwide lockdown with effect from yesterday.

The clubs were asked to vote on a proposition that the pause in fixtures be continued with a regular review in light of changes to the Tiers and/or grants becoming available.

The total votes cast by the 224 Clubs show a substantial number of Clubs in agreement with the proposition.

The matter has been considered today by all concerned and a further statement will be issued in due course.

Saturday 5 December
Combined counties division 1
Fleet spurs 2-1 British Airways
£6 admission no programme
Tea is a donation as not allowed to sell food.
Attendance 8 at first doubled after 20 minutes no chaps.
A game full of chances, play acting and violence.
Chairman had to speak to certain spectators during second half due to them abusing BA players and ref.
Pretty good game although it was bloody cold that I sat in car at half time.

FA Trophy Round One

Carshalton 3-0 Barking
Attendance 396
Away - Approx 10
Admission - £11
Chaps - Dunno. Five, maybe
Food and drink - none available due to Covid restrictions though plenty smuggled cans in

Carshalton comfortably advance despite playing the majority of the game with 10 men and an outfield player in goal after their keeper was sent off for a professional foul on the edge of the box. Barking were truly awful and it really should’ve been five or six. Entertaining enough game though. Very cold.

Government are allowing fans of Isthmian and below to attend in Tier Three
600 in Tier 2
300 in Tier 3

Hope clubs can now restart the season when they meet on Dec 16th

If they complain about no beer still then we have zero chance of playing

I'm injured so went to watch a friend of mine referee this bottom of the table clash, bottom v 2nd from bottom.

The only reason this game was better than the Manchester Derby was that there were two worldies scored, both 40 yards out. The first goal was the most Sunday league goal you've ever seen. Can see why both teams are nailed on for relegation out of the pyramid this year.

I must confess I had never heard of Totton & Eling even though I am quite local. I did wonder if it was a merger with AFC Totton where I have been to an FA Cup qualifying game some 25 years ago. Pleased to see they are 2 different teams

Tier 3 LEAGUE Games at Step 3 and lower are allowed half the amount of fans

Isthmian 300 rather than 600
Isthmian South 200 rather than 400
Combined Counties 150 rather than 300

FA Trophy
If elite side is on the pitch then its zero fans if match is in a Tier 3 area
