Tuesday 12 October

England 1-1 Hungary
Attendance: Just under 70,000
Ticket: £20
Food and drink: Queues too long, didn’t buy
Programme: Don’t know
Chap count: Fair to high

Left the office at 5.15 and was outside the Volunteer in Baker Street by 5.40 for a nice couple of pints of Neck Oil (at a very reasonable price compared to the likes of The Globe (spit)). Then onto Marylebone for one in there before catching the 7.03 to Wembley Stadium Station.

That was as good as it got as the game was utter dirge. Hungary made life difficult but this was the worst I’ve seen England play in a long time. No creative spark except for Grealish who was inexplicably taken off midway through the second half as Southgate changed system. Best moment was easily seeing Ollie come on.

The only entertainment came from the Hungary section where the cops moved in to make an arrest following a disturbance after England players took the knee. Incredibly, the OB got completely battered and made a hasty retreat onto the concourse and were not seen again for the rest of the night, leaving only a thin piece of netting separating the black shirted ultras from the England family section.

Another Wembley cock-up for the Met.

There aren’t many games I go to where I come away thinking I hadn’t bothered but this was one. Saving grace was being home from Wembley in under two hours.
Maybe they need to make the blocks surrounding the away fans designated "Chap" sections and just let everyone have their fun?

Good game. Always eventful on the Somerset / Dorset / Wiltshire border. The Western League is great but a bit of a shame many of the local teams have been re-distributed elsewhere.

You beat me back Lionheart!

You're right we will need to play better Tuesday to keep it respectable. Penalty and red card on stroke of half time didnt help us though - if we'd gone in at half time 1-0 up with 11 men we might have got something from the game. Referee admitted to me after he might have got the free kick wrong for the second goal too.

Come and say hi if you're there Tuesday.

Barcelona v Real Madrid today. Couldn’t work out where Madrid fans were until they scored. They were bloody everywhere, holding their scarves aloft. A few minor scuffles but not much considering how brazen they were. Maybe it’s different here.

Neither club is saying much on Twitter.
Just that there was a scuffle on the touchline, and two Chertsey players were sent off.
Bracknell think they will keep the points.

Just got back…up until the last 10 mins it was mostly quiet but then it went proper mental…Bracknell players v the crowd and some chertsey players too…one of the Bracknell squad tried to take the crowd on and got battered…the ref bottled it and abandoned the game where if he’d have waited 5 mins it would have sorted itself out…surreal scenes 😳😂

chertsey….the new Millwall of the 7th tier 😱😁😁😁

 I attended the reverse fixture a month or so ago. Was surprised at the level of (attempted!) football played to be fair

Some of it was so bad I thought they may as well have sent Sir Douglas Bader on.

Wednesday 27th October
FC Tromso 2 Odd Grenland 0.
Norwegian Eliteserien

Ticket - £18 (210 NOK)
Beer - not available but there was waffles, hot dogs and coffee!
Attendance - 1990
Chaps - 0 too f***ing cold.

Great game between two teams fighting for survival. Really lush ground with the mountains in the background. Lower Championship standard. Tromso’s August Mikklesen was by far the best player on the pitch.

Odd bought 14 fans. Their ground is in Skein, a 24 hour drive away! Will never moan about travelling to see the Bees away again!

30/10/21 Sutton Utd 0-1 Walsall.

£20 away terrace entry.

About £4.50 for an Amstel in the supporters bar. Forgot to check the cider situation.

Didnt try any food but the away end burger van was sending forth some nice smells. No alcohol sales in the away end.

Attendance 3319.
Walsall chap count 35-50.
Salford chap count 10.
Stewards a bit excitable about Walsall flags hung over ad boards.

sh*t game, Walsall tried to play from the back not particularly successfully. Good freekick won the game. Sutton seemed clueless, surprisingly for a team in the playoffs at kickoff.

Ground 104 (or 105 if you count Dean Court twice like footballgroundmap do  ) ticked off.

Dean court counts definitely twice as the pitch orientation moved. Same with Spurs.

Went to Posh 2 QPR 1 a week ago, in laws are all Posh so I tagged along with my 3 boys in tow (sob)

Really good game of football, played the right way and end to end. Chair the main man for “them” but still drifted in and out the game. QPR filled their allocation and sadly were in good voice. Home atmosphere at London Road is always a bit of a poor show these days? Looked like plenty of erm chaps in that away end -plenty of badges and caps on show……….. ha!

Posh probably slightly edged it for me – they need their home form as they are shocking away so every win counts. Burrows stand out for me – 19 year old left back, very raw but plenty of encouraging signs – closely followed by Edwards who I think is 18 and he played centre back (ex barnet were we linked???)

Anyway – I got my revenge and took 2 out of my 3 to Stoke away and don’t tell the wife but…………….. they enjoyed that more!!!!

Sunday 7 November
Kaftanzoglio Stadium, Thessaloniki, Greece

Iraklis FC vs Niki Volos FC in the Greek second division.

€10 to get in, programme free.

Att. About 2,000
Chaps about 250 Iraklis Ultras who sang throughout the game. A real contrast to the shameful performance put in again by the East Stand Stiffs Alliance yesterday.

Niki Volos brought about 50 of their own Ultras.

No food or drink.

An enjoyable Friday evening. First half, shooting away from the ‘home end’ was very entertaining, second half a non-event.

That’s it.

Dulwich Hamlet 3-0 Bath City
Attendance 3,400 (another 500 without tickets locked out)
Away: 150-ish
Ticket: £12
Chap count: 0
Hipster count: off the scale

First time I’ve ever been to a Dulwich game and I can’t say I’ll be rushing back. It’s certainly unique, decent bars inside and out but the queues for drinks and the toilets were obscene. Half the people in there have no investment in the game it’s all about being ironic and going to a football match.

Champagne moment: Bath fans singing at Dulwich: “Nigel Farage, he’s one of your own…”

Was there too. Fair summary. Managed to gather from a Dulwich Fan that their best player is an ex-Bee (Giovanni McGregor, 22, No 8 attacking mid, released as an U-18 in 2016). He was very good as the game progressed, I thought.

Didn’t realise that. Yes, he looked very good. Dulwich played some nice stuff at times though Bath barely laid a glove on them.

Went to AFC Totton v Frome in the FA Trophy this afternoon which saw 3 red cards being shown, the first of which was the Frome goalkeeper in the 12th minute. Game ended 2-2 with the 9 men of Frome losing 4-2 on penalties to 10 men Totton. Most enjoyable.... (y)(y)

Panathinaikos B vs AEK B at the Apostolos Nikolaidis Stadium in Athens. A Super League 2 fixture (the five or so Greek teams get to field their B squads in the second division).

AEK won 0-2, with their second goal in about 90+7 minutes. Quality of football not too bad. Much better than Iraklis vs Niki Volos last Sunday 😂

Crowd about 2000. Chaps = about 400 of Panathinaikos‘ Ultras at Gate 13. No AEK fans allowed in.

No programme, no food, €10 to get in.

My second Greek game of the day is this evening, for Greece vs Kosovo in a World Cup Qualifier :)

To each their own and all that. It’s definitely a different type of matchday experience but not for me and one they’re welcome to.

Would be interesting to see how they’d deal with some the away followings they’d have there if they get promoted.

went there about 5 years ago for a game v staines town ......decent bar with good choice of craft beers but the home fans were very clique and seemed to be trying too hard to be alternative and singing properly strange songs which they found hilarious but no one else got......weird place

Second game of the day: Greece va Kosovo in the European Championship qualifiers tonight, at the Olympic stadium in Athens.

Neither team can now qualify, so a pitiful crowd of about 1000 (inside a 69,000 seater stadium) watched an entertaining 1-1 draw.

No chaps, no programmes, no food. €15 to get in.

That is a very good gate for that level. Is that usual for them? Have they now sorted their ground problems out as I thought they were going to be evicted at some stage this season.

I think they average around 2,500, which is comfortably the highest in the division.

Ive not really followed the ground saga too closely but I understand it’s resolved and they have approval to redevelop with a bigger capacity. I think they had to spend a season or so at Tooting and Mitcham a few years back.

“Are you going to football tomorrow? She asked.
“Yes.” I replied, needing no further invitation.
Now, where to go? = Sutton, would be my 95th League Ground..

Saturday 9 October 2021
League 2
Sutton Utd 4-3 Port Vale. Att. 3905.
(SU finding their feet at home, and PV on a run of 6 consecutive wins)
Admission £13 (old git’s concession - printed at home)
Programme £3. Catering/refreshments- N/A. Never saw any, and everyone around me seemed to have brought their own. Massive queue for the toilets though.
New pitch looked great, complete with pop-up sprinklers. I gather the away seats are new this season too, a grandiose gazebo for about 100 souls. Not out of place amongst the mish-mash of small stands, and bits of covered terracing. PV end looked pretty much fully sold out, and they were in good voice throughout.
The site is circular, and gives the impression of having had a running track or, (perhaps less likely) greyhounds around the pitch in the past.
A lovely sunny autumn afternoon, and I positioned myself by a corner flag,
letting the crowd mass behind me.
A thoroughly entertaining game, and PV have a classy squad for L2, and on this viewing have a chance for promotion. SU have heart, some skills, and stickability. Despite trailing 0-2 and 2-3 they managed to win at the death, having led for couple of minutes in total!
Surprised to see it was the lead game on Quest’s highlights, with Colin Murray and Dean Ashton on site. Sure enough, there I am on the telly again..
My lifelong aim of mediocrity and anonymity is being sorely tested this season.
Formerly known as the Borough Sports Ground which hosted athletics on a cinder track back in the day.

Sounds more enjoyable than when I was there last week on the line - although the post-match scran was absolutely delightful and made the evening in the cold very much worth it

Scran? What the hell is that? Don't understand the jargon!
