A weird formation for the first 40 minutes, I'm not sure Sam Saunders knew himself where he was supposed to be playing!! Once Weston went up front things got slightly better.
The bonus from the evening was the performance of Leon legge. I watched him in the reserve game last week against Aldershot and thought he was a million miles away from first team action but his performance tonight was very impressive. He is certainly a more-than-useful presence to defend corners, etc - I don't think he failed to win a header from a set-piece all evening. Mention also needs to be made of Karleigh Osborne's display alongside him. I think we have a strong central defence with those two as fourth and fifth choices!
The downside was the woeful performance of Steve Kabba up-front. I fear that his brief cameo performances in the league matches have flattered to deceive - he was abysmal tonight, even allowing for the fact that he spent far too much time trying to collect long hopeful punts forward. I'll be astonished if he manages a solitary goal before Christmas - amazing that Scott gave him a one-year contract.
...and off the pitch, what was all that nonsense beforehand about not having any tickets until they arrived with the supporters coach. What club sends all the tickets to the visiting team and are left with nothing to issue on the night? Norwich might have been a premiership club once - but their ticketing arrangements are non-league at best. A total shambles.
...................they played like t(w)urps.................
am I the first one home?
Price was decent in goal, unlucky that the ball went in off the post, but his distribution left a lot to be desired, not just his kicking
O'Connor looked as if he hadn't played right back in years
Osborne didn't really put a foot wrong
Legge was my MOM, won most if not all his headers, and if he had managed to stretch his Legge just a little further, might have equalised
Foster looked out of position, although he didn't do much wrong
Bean didn't really know what his position was, got himself booked for a blatant handball trying to score - he should have used his head, both literally and figuratively
Saunders ran around and was the most hard-working of the attacking force, and he was the one substituted!?
Hunt was simply ineffective, distribution and throw-ins didn't achieve anything, nor did they ever look like doing so
Taylor, Kabba and Weston - were they all trying to take on Marvin Williams mantle? - they all ran around like headless chickens, getting in each others way, and in all honesty we wouldn't have scored in a month of Sundays with those three up top
Wood came on with a minute to go, plus stoppage - nowhere near enough time for him to make an impression either favourable or not
The game appeared to have been approached by BFC as a training-ground exercise - if any of them were playing to win a contract, I'm afraid that most of them would have been cast aside - Norwich weren't much better, but they were the more cohesive unit
I wasn't sure whether Brentford had named any substitutes - both times before the game began the teams were read out, each time the Norwich team included their subs bench, but neither time were Brentford's subs named - it was quite a surprise when Wood came on
The tactics were the most shocking - hit high and hope was how I'd best sum them up, and we never stood a chance of winning any high balls in attack against a very robust Norwich defence - who was supposed to be the target man?
All in all very disappointing
Edit: Forgot to mention - the linesman on our side of the pitch, with the yellow flag - didn't make a decision until after the referee had decided which team won the throw-in, conceded the foul etc - reminded me of the Lowestoft linesman we had a few years ago (League Cup?) at Norwich, who gave up officiating after our defeat that evening - he also missed a questionable handball in the area by Norwich, and didn't give us a corner when the ball was clearly out of play; in fact he gave us nothing all evening
Lingfield Bee said:Just got home... Very dissapointed in the performance by the lads, apparently according to official bees website we played 4-3-3 was more like 4-4-1-1. Just wasnt good enought tonight. Playing punt ball all night
Shame as the fans make the effort I wouldnt mind travelling all that way on a tuesday night for a crap mickey mouse cup if the players put in 100% effort and commitment but they didnt not one bees player i can say had a good game.
Only positive was Legge and Osborne performances, Hunt had a awful game!!
Fans deserve better. If i knew we were going to just play punt ball and put no effort in i wouldnt of made the trip.
Total over stewarding at the game as well, far too many stewards there! And feel when we take a big following in the league in Jan they are going to ruin it for the bees fans.
Terefore last night was pretty good considering. If we can harness the skill of Weston and Saunders, get Charlie and Strevens scoring we'll be all right.
Patience, please. Let's settle in.
