All us old fellows remember the boots the guys are wearing, I wonder how today’s players would get along with them

Those were the days no poncey high tech training ground facilities just a gym of sorts under the old B block with a few weights and a quick rub down. 😁

My first pair of boots cost 6 shillings from Woolworths and had them for many years just kept stretching until uppers formed part of the sole, finally went when my mother left my football kit next to the dustbin and the kit was taken with the rubbish . The very next game I played with new boots ( Batas) was the only time the referee ever inspected everbodys boots

Yes, me too - I had to look after them as well. I had the obligatory tin of Dubbin; I suppose that it still exists.
Yes, Dubbin still exists. I use it on my hiking boots. Funny enough I went into a proper shoe repair store and asked for Dubbin, the owner had never heard of it. He's up there with my age group 60 plus I'd. assume by looks, not going there for sure.

Back to the post. You had to Dubbin the ball as well, the balls that had laces and a bladder inside, made of leather. They bloody hurt when someone kicked it hard and hit you, worse was when it was cold and it hit you.
