I never ever thought that I would see Brentford players going for millions there was a time when we couldn’t give a player away in a raffle.....do I want Ollie to go no I don’t but that’s the selfish part of me am being a Brentford fan....on the other hand a players career is very short...I mean he could play one game get a terrible injury and never play again....I don’t want this to happen him btw....but they have to maximise there potential and he will be financially secure for life as he seems to be a very level headed guy...I mean we have seen players go for millions now since we landed in the championship but this is nuts the fee we are getting....I still struggle to get used to the fact that this is the same club that I have supported for 30 + years now being a properly run club who really piss off other clubs who still don’t get how we do itlol but this is such an amazing experience that we are going through and if it wasn’t for Mathew and the set up he has put in place I truly think we would be non league as at one point that was where we were heading

He will go to Tottenham.
If they are in for him personally I’d much rather him go there. A year to bed in and progress. No worries about playing in a relegation team and the pressure that puts on players and fans. Much better place for him, and he doesn’t have to move. ;)

Villa club record, Brentford club record, Championship record.
If it happens, also (retrospectively) potentially record fee for a League Two player. The record was thought to be the £6m for Nick Powell that Man Utd paid Crewe, instead it would become the £6m plus that Brentford will have paid Exeter.

Not counting chickens though. Exeter manager tonight pleased with the (believed to be) 10k for winning tonight’s EFL Trophy game against Forest Green.

Seems A great fee for Ollie sorry to see him go and hope we can get in a decent replacement might be worth looking at Rhian Brewster as liverpool are looking at selling him

It’s a lot of money for Watkins, but it does make me laugh bees fans saying we have had Villas pants down.....they are a premier league club, spending a lot of money and trying to become stronger. I think we are now weaker and yes have made a lot of money on players but we are still a champ club. I would currently rather be in their shoes.

Good luck Ollie, thanks for everything. No-one has ever put more effort into playing for Brentford and to constantly improving.

Good point. Six years in the championship and not a single promotion. If only we just kept Gray, Tarkowski, Jota,, Maupay, Konsa, Mepham, Sawyers etc
The owners and exec team really need to take a good look at themselves.

Then you clearly don't understand the way our club operates and the way it will for the foreseeable future, until we become a European Superpower. Which we won't. Sorry that you're so disappointed in our lack of progress as a club.

The add-on seems to be 15% (on profit) + 3.5% of headline number, so I make it £4.75m + £1.8 = £6.5m. So yes. Well done. Send us the next Ollie please :sorted:

All the best Ollie. Thanks for an unbelievable last season. With his fantastic attitude I’m sure he’ll do great. Fully deserves to be in the prem.

Not my point....I know we’ve done good business. My point is us laughing at villa for spending that sort of money on Watkins (which I’ve seen all over twitter). I don’t think they really care about the money being spent if it makes them stronger. My point being I would gladly be in their position, if we spent that sort of money on a player we would be going wild. I imagine this time next year he will be worth £40m and people will be praising villa for signing him for that amount.

Developed into one of the most complete forward players. Incredible attitude, engine and skill. Thank you for your great service. Best of everything at the Villa.

As someone said on Twitter.. If Villa buy Benrahma aswell the combined fees for Hogan, Konsa, Watkins and Benrahma will have paid more than the total cost of our new ground... Maybe we should call it the Aston Villa Arena in recognition of their efforts :D

Again you’ve missed my point, it was the amount of bees fans laughing at villa for spending the money on Watkins, like we’ve won. They have just bought our best player, I think they will be delighted, especially when his value continues to increase.

I’m not disappointed at the lack of progress, you’ve twisted my words slightly.

We couldn't keep him; we are in the Championship, and in those circumstances it is an amazing fee. Nice for them if they can afford to spend and not care about the amounts. We are not in that position so why sit around dreaming that we were. Why not enjoy watching us successfully execute the strategy that has brought us unprecedented success and seen us continually improve? If he goes for £40m in two years all the better for us.

He's an absolute star. Brilliant on the pitch, trains hard, first line of defence (and last too), runs and runs, never injured, model pro, no-one hates him, community focused, absolute gent, just brilliant. I am going to miss him.

Ivan, you have big boots to fill mate.

That’s a fair point. I guess it’s the frustration of getting so close. I feel if we had of got there, we already had that ready made striker. However like you said, no point in dreaming

Fantastic deal for us and I’m sure for Ollie! He’ll be on good money and will play regularly in a side with money and ambition.

He did fantastically well for us and his development had been astounding, particularly last season. The Swansea home PO game was about as good an all round game as I’ve seen from a Bees player.

This :( a proper well rounded person and player and because of that i think he will be our best premier league export yet

I think if anyone's laughing at them it's because they've been banging on about calling Brentford's bluff and how Brentford were going to cave in and sell him cheap because they were rumoured to be looking at other players. It's gutting to lose a player of his quality but that is incredible money and you know we'll invest it wisely... Also, it's a massive financial boost to the club when matchday revenue is still some way off and we'll have no doubt budgeted for increased income this season with the new ground.

Best of luck Oli. Smash it in the PL and even bigger fish will come calling in a year or two, plus Mr Southgate.

It is win win. They get an excellent player who is too good to be playing in the Championship this season. We get an astronomical sum, less than a quarter of which has been spent to buy his replacement but that is still more spent on one player than our total expenditure on transfer fees for 10 years when we were back in L1, more than double what we spent on Ollie and with add ons probably our highest fee ever. And we may still end the season swapping divisions.

Watkins has gone for extraordinary money. I was speaking with Donald Kerr the other day & he told me Watkins & Benrahma are the only players we’re selling. Honestly couldn’t care less about the players we sell anymore we’re a unique club no one else will understand that as much as us!

Until they wanted to buy him, then he was definitely going to Elland Road for £18m lol

No worries, they've still got that £12m Benrahma deal lined up. Its just a question of whether or not they can forgive him for his instagram post. Updates on the minute, every minute from Phil Hay.

I'm losing a lot of respect for Phil Hay who seems to be turning into some sycophant.
