Went on the Villa forum yesterday and they have a 70 (SEVENTY) page thread on Ollie, despite their being no actual confirmed links that they are going to stump up the asking price.

If he goes anywhere other than Villa or Fulham I will call it a good result.

Do you think before the post match interview with TF that they are told not to ask about Ollie? Seems very odd that he’s not mentioned.

What would be the point of asking?
Offer accepted? Offer rejected? No offers yet? An update? It’s pretty normal that managers get asked when their players are linked with other clubs.

In journalist interviews yes, in club ones I can see why they’d want to stick to positive discussions about what TF is doing with the squad rather than fuel speculation. We know Ollie is in demand, we have a replacement, the discussions with other clubs will be confidential (and probably not involve TF much) and he’ll be working with Ollie in training as normal (even if he’s going he’ll give our defenders a good workout and have a lot to show Toney). We’d learn little of interest.

You know by now that the Head Coach doesn't handle transfers, right?

The answer would be something like "I leave that stuff to Phil and Rasmus, they will have the latest information on buying and selling on players"

He already gets enough nonsense questions like "Was it important to get that win today?" without adding to them :D

God witless questions like that drive me spare! Presumably those responsible have been on some sort of communications course to train them to ask open questions, never mind the banality of it, cliched drivel

I also hate it when they ask 'how important were the fans today?' The next answer is then pointless drivel because they have to say 'the fans were great, brilliant atmosphere, you could hear them all game' etc, even if it was a terrible atmosphere.

They're not exactly going to say 'I played well because I'm trying to build my career and I wanted the win bonus, the fans were irrelevant to my goals and I only applauded them because it would look bad if I didn't'.

Ollie Watkins has been asked this question before btw :D

That is why when watching a game on tv, the final whistle goes and I turn off immediately. I have sometimes missed incidents in the tunnel, but the interviews are appalling

The number of times when I have been daft enough to listen to the interviews and been left wondering if the interviewer actually watched the game.

If you watch old Big Match/MOTD stuff on YouTube or cable, Brian Moore/Jimmy Hill just read out a couple of post match quotes and move on to the next game, none of this phoney Frost/Nixon interviews that are just meaningless padding that no one on their right mind cares about

According to the BBC just now:

"Aston Villa are hoping to sign Bournemouth's England striker Callum Wilson after opening talks on a deal worth about £20m.

Villa are also close to signing Nottingham Forest's English right-back Matty Cash, 23, for about £16m."

https://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/54001034

If there's anything in that, it might corroborate Percy's DT claim i.e. Villa can't/won't go £28m for Ollie.

Or if they did that's £64 milion on three players. I am assuming the new DOF there isn't as stupid as the old one?

Wilson/Watkins can only ever have been an "either/or", not an "and".

So if they should sign Wilson (28 y.o. and 7 goals in PL35 games last season), it will only be because they consider him "better" value and/or more affordable than Ollie.

Depends on what you mean by value. I would back Ollie to score 7 or more goals in the prem and at his age will only improve. Over time AV would get their 8M and more back as Ollie gets better, so not sure what you mean by value. IMO the only reason they would go for Wilson is that they are unable to go the extra at this point in time for Ollie.

It's not my judgement but I guess the reasonng could be that Villa may still be concerned about another season of struggle. So that at 28, CW must be now at/approaching his prime and knows the division, so may be a better bet to "hit the ground running".

Whereas it's all very well judgng Ollie to be worth £28m, but not if he takes a season or more fully to settle in, by which time Villa could be down again. .

Otoh, Villa may just be valuing them using a 2nd hand algorithm they bought from the Department of Education....

I agree, teh last Bees forward to play in the Premier LEague having been sold, MAupay scored 10.

Good! he can do better than gum chewing Villa. Fulham have far more class. But still hoping he goes to The Arsenal as has been suggested by one or two on here and elsewhere.

Far too good for Villa.

Seems odd that Dean Smith has failed to communicate how Brentford’s player valuation works to his new employers. Would have thought after 3 years here he might have worked it out. Not sure he did much to improve Ollie or Said while he was here but I am sure he is a nice bloke.

Bournemouth will accept £20m to get him off the wage bill which will save many more millions.

Newcastle would kill for a player of his abilities
.
Well, they don’t have to go to those extremes to sign him, a simple monetary bid would be enough.

Clearly they don’t want him as much as you think or they would pay the sort of money they splash out on donkeys every year.

Maybe he has, maybe they still feel they need to work to get the best possible deal for AV that they can. Maybe we are much closer to a dal than we think

I don’t really believe any of the stuff I read, so much is made up and then the figure is never released anyway.

We have a valuation, other teams have their valuations and the eventual fee will be a compromise based on how much other interest there is and how much we need to sell. Exactly the same as at any other club unless I’m missing something?

It's also materially higher that what we sold Maupay for last Summer. So this all makes sense.

Seems about right. Great deal for the club, Ollie and for Exeter. Couldn't give two hoots about Villa.

Good deal if true. 27mil for Watkins.

Shame to see him go but will do great in the Prem. Will score at least 15 if played up front for them.

Is that a breakthrough or just a elongated way of saying that Villa might pay a bit more. And we'll still tell them to do one lol

Good price if true. More than I expected. Good luck to him, he's got everything to be an effective mid-table Premier League player but just lacks that bit of technique you need for the very top.
