Don’t encourage the whinge-bags :nono:
If we did this everyone sane could mute the thread and mods could move every unnecessarily whingey comment to it as being off topic from every other thread.

It’d be a pretty boring read though, don’t you think?
Mind, when I get one of my periodic warnings, I’d know what thread to look at!

Is that from the Concert for Kampuchea at Hammersmith Odeon in 1979?

That's the one. I don't think it's ever been officially released on Tape/DVD/Blu Ray in the UK but a lot of it is now on youtube. I saw a couple of Rockpile's first ever gigs at the Nashville. Amongst my list of greatest ever gigs.

Still winning games on xG, indicative of performances being decent and just a few "worldies" undone us of late.

We have played 4 of the current top 5 and have taken 4 points.
The only other clubs to do this are Crystal Palace who have 2 points and Norwich with 1 point.
Four points is a decent return and providing we take points off the lower ranked teams we will be OK.
Nothing to get worried about.

ON THIS DAY In 1937 Brentford retained top spot in Division One with a 4-3 win at Anfield against Liverpool.

Robert Reid was the hero netting a hat-trick with David McCulloch scoring the other.

The result moved Brentford a point clear at the top of Division One with 15 games of the season gone.

Let's Go ! ⚽️⚽️⚽️

Was looking at 538 for historical relegation spots now and at Christmas going back 6 years. Rarely does a team drop from our position into final relegation spot by christmas. Early November is almost as indicative.

Let's relax a little, it's early days. No point in worrying about the unthinkable, let's look forward to a very successful, although challenging season ahead. COYBs.

Lots of negativity around on here and I dread to think what the keyboard warriors on Facebook and Twitter are coming up with.

A sense of reality is necessary, this league is very tough and pretty much every team has considerable depth. We have for the first time in my life ( which is getting considerably shorter) arrived in the top flight of English football due to the generosity of one man and his ability to appoint very clever people to oversee the football side of the business.

As I understand it we have more injured first team players than any other Premier League team and that has derailed our performances, it’s easy to replace one player at a time but we have had to make major changes.

According to some various members of the squad are just not good enough, I won’t agree or disagree as every one is entitled to their opinion. However we must appreciate that we operate at the bottom of the financial world in this league, we are not in the market for superstars, we have to acquire players who are good but maybe lack consistency or have mistakes in them. Far better to operate in a prudent financial than risking our future.

Very easy to spend money in January however with players likely to return from injury over the next month or so the playing field could look very different.

I note posters are already suggesting we will go down this season, that may be the case although I doubt it, but the club are fully aware of the possibility and I believe Phil Giles referred to the fact that we may need to take a step back to move forward.

We have reached the pinnacle of English football by planning well shopping sensibly and being patient, we are having a dodgy run of results but will come through it as we have done before. Now is not the time for gnashing of teeth and negativity but is the time for all supporters at the ground to put aside their own preconceptions and rally around the team

We only gave 7 points to bottom three teams...
Yeah but we used to dot that in the championship all the time. The amount of points we gave the likes of Brum, Stoke, Barnsley, etc. Never do well against the dross.

In five games against the top 6 so far this season, we average 2 points a game. We play the current seventh placed team (Spurs) tomorrow, so hopefully ....

How are you getting that statistic? That's 10 points from 5 games. I'm assuming you mean sides that were in the top 6 at the time we played them.

As far as I remember, the only game we've won against a side that was in the top 6 was West Ham. Drew against Liverpool. Lost to Brighton (who I think were top 6 then). Lost to Chelsea. Wolves and Everton were nowhere near top 6 when we beat them. Other draws against Villa & Palace - again, they weren't in the top 6. Are you counting Arsenal as being in the top 6, purely because they start with 'A'?!

Even giving the benefit of the doubt for Arsenal, that leaves 4 points from 3 other games. How does that work?

At the time I wrote it, we had taken 3 points each from Arsenal, West Ham and Wolves, and a point from Liverpool, and they were all in the top six at the time, I wrote the post, honest! At least I think they were at some point in the middle of the week Spurs have won twice since then!

Sorry to disappoint, but Wolves were way down the table when we beat them!

We can play without Ivan! :bounce:
We actually played better and passed it around/ran with it more- when he returns we can be a bit braver about that and ask him to stay up more.

Maybe this should be put in the thread "Little Known Facts About Famous People" but over 40 years ago Robert Plant appeared on stage with the Bard of Brentford - Nick Lowe
Holy crap, Nick Lowe is from Brentford? I’m a big fan. Got him to sign my guitar in Philly in the 80’s. Is he a big Bees supporter?

Played on Thursday whilst Leeds had weeks rest, Leeds have players returning from injury whilst our Talisman is now unavailable. We go a goal down but in the end it takes until the very last minute for Leeds to equalise!!!

You have to love this team, we are not at our best and have not been so for a few weeks however please spare a thought for the following:
Palace
Leeds
Southampton
Everton
Watford
Burnley
Newcastle
Norwich

All of them are below us in the table and all of whom are expected to finish above us. We can, and do, criticise performances both individually and collectively but I wonder what their fans think😂😂

Just imagine how good the table might look when everyone is back and we start to play well

I think he still lives in Brentford but is not a supporter. His son is a fan and is proudly wearing his Brentford shirt when we were League One on the cover of the CD Quality Street.

He also played a charity gig in Stripes (our bar in Griffin Park) which was commented on in this thread

I saw him once having a beer in a local pub before a game, probably some 20 years ago, and he was friendly enough to have a chat with me.

If you haven't read it his biography "Cruel to be Kind" written by ex Kursaal Flyer/The Records drummer Will Birch is well worth a read.
