I appreciate your passion but I'm baffled by why our number 3 keeper occupies your attention to this extent. Did any club in the prem last year use 3 keepers?
I cannot remember now, probably because Cox is no longer the third keeper, but sits on the bench, and is a heart beat, so as to speak, away from coming on, and playing in the Premier League. Who knows perhaps at a vital time. I am not particularly occupied with GK's, however, the loss of Raya has reignited a previous debate where a few posters told the likes of me that we did not need a back up GK! Thank goodness that the DFO's had a different opinion as Fernandez has plenty of qualities that indicate that in the fulness of time he could do well at Brentford.

Withdrew from the Iceland squad (and consequently isn't part of the matchday squad for the match taking place right now) due to injury.

Was that Gunnarsson?
"Just after Bjørshol's decisive goal, it was Kristiansund who was close to scoring, but the post slipped outside. Afterwards, there was a scuffle between Viking goalkeeper Patrik Gunnarsson and midfielder David Brekalo. The latter received a direct red card after pushing to his own keeper."

He went down holding his face when the other player shoved him in the chest. Looks awful..
Hitting the deck might of been a sensible option in all the circumstances. It immediately ended the confrontation which the other protagonist seemed keen to continue. If he’d gone down after the first push, it might have saved his colleague the red card. It wasn’t him that completely lost his head.

I'm sure he does regret the action in hindsight but as others have said it was his team mate who totally lost the plot and pushed him in the chest not once but twice. Not something you really expect. He's on loan to learn and this is certainly comes under that category.

Maybe but I still can’t stand feigning injury like that. It reminded me of that little creep Jonny Williams getting Harley sent off back in the day. I‘m not sure the ref would have sent off the defender if the keeper hadn’t gone down holding his face. And his own teammate too. Awful to see..

We must have someone lined up to come in and sit on the bench.

Or if we are really high on Cox then perhaps we get a fee and a decent sell-on (plus a buyback?) for Patrik?

I’m not sure now we’re probably that keen on a player than feigns injury against his teammates. We’ll see. I smell a incoming player transfer.

I'm betting that given he's a perennial unused substitute for the full Iceland team now, he's got his eyes firmly set on breaking into the XI and needs to get "hisself" a contract somewhere in that part of Europe.

I'm sure we're 'open to discuss' most players but doesn't mean we'd necessarily sell at a price that the enquirer might want.. Would be surprised if we let Gunnarsson go as he's improved a lot and has been one of our few regularly succesful loanees..

Yes this & I can't see the moment of madness following the recent altercation with his own player changing that. He's a talented young keeper who is doing well & gaining experience.

I think it’s the normal guff spouted by a club after a successful loan. Probably boils down to what Patrik wants to do, and whether they can afford him. He’s still a toddler in GK years…

I think Gunnarsson should not be sold. I watched him in quite a few B team games and he always impressed. He's done well on his loans and is probably ready to compete with Fernandez until Raya returns. I don't care if he shows a bit of 'attitude' now and again -- in fact I quite like keepers who dominate their defence as well as their six-yard box.

The key need is to get Cox off the bench and get him playing regularly to aid his development.

We need an experienced body to back up Fernandez and challenge him in training until Raya is fit to return.

Personally I do not think that any bid they make will get anywhere near his current value.

Article says he will return next week is he eligible to play straight away or will he not be registered as part of our 25 man squad?

He won't be eligible until Jan.
Don't think he needs to be registered as part of the 25 man squad though as he is classed as U21.

Here’s a couple of questions.

Do we need to get any clearance for him to play after Jan 1st or can he go straight onto the bench for Aston Villa?

If he sits on our bench but doesn’t play, could he still play for another club this season if sold / loaned out again before the window closes?

In answer to your questions:
1. Not sure, but don't think so.
2. Yes he could play for another club (but I think we will keep him as reserve to Fernandez. I also think he will play vs Port Vale).

Thanks. With Lössl coming in perhaps Patrik will be out of the door again sooner than anticipated.

and in answer to your first question, that article states that international clearance is required.

That's great news hopefully will be given a chance with the 1st team instead of being sent out on loan

Gunnarsson back from loan spell.

Seems strange to announce his return in this way, given his final match in Norway was approaching three weeks ago. I wouldn't be surprised if this is a bit of priming for him going onto the bench versus Villa.
