Barring a miracle we've got 5 or 6 games left this season. 3 of them are to give fringe players some game time and key players a chance to recover from any knocks they are carrying while ideally getting us to 3rd or 4th place at the end.

Then we have every chance of getting a result in the semis and final. We are very tough to beat! We can and have on (far too) many occasions come back from being a goal down to get a draw or win. We have the top goalscorer in the league, and at least 3 very good penalty takers. And being German I fully expect Janelt to be bloody good at them too.

For what it's worth I think we might get a draw this weekend, end up 3rd and play and beat Swansea in the semis and face Muff or Barnsley in the final, at Wembley, in front of a crowd. Should be a great game, and definitely one we can win!

Shame that we can't re-sign Tony Craig and Harlee Dean....

Could KO'C come on towards the end of extra time?

Don't you remember that one he hit over Ealing Road once ?
They found it on top of one of the tower blocks.

You won't have to, I will gladly take it. You have embarrassingly little faith in MB and what he has and continues to achieve.
Hoping for this as well, Bournemouth to be the form side going into them, over confident in the final and we counter attack them to win. I don't fancy us two legs against them. More than happy with Swansea over two legs, not so sure with Barnsley and their press
The Barnsley Evening Post?

So 7 seasons ago when we got promoted, close season I thought we’d finish above Rotherham and wasn’t sure if two other teams would be below us.

it’s been amazing, 3 POs (well 2 and fingers crossed) never finished in bottom half and acknowledged as a perfect case study of an ambitious, forward looking club playing football the right way. As bloody annoying and frustrating as it is watching us capitulate at Coventry and fail to
kill off teams like Rangers when we were outclassing it’s seen far more highs than lows.
Our record against our biggest rivals is excellent over 46 games every season, we’ve beaten clubs in the Prem regularly and we are selling players for anywhere between £12M and £30M regularly.

Being concerned with 4 games to go if we’ll make the Premier League next season far outweighs arguing with your brother and fighting among fans on the terrace at Ashton Gate in 93 as we got relegated. I’d rather be us than most, pray we get up but equally happy if I get to watch 75% of the matches on a Saturday at 3pm next season in the Championship because that won’t happen if we go up.
Keep the faith, it’s not enjoyable now but we’ll look back and appreciate it was happy days before too long.

I'm beginning to see a pattern emerging here

Eh? We’ve got 4 league games so unless Reading overhaul us we’ve got 6 games left, 7 if we get to the final. There’s no scenario with 5 games other than one involving the suspension of football/ending of the season after the first leg!

We’re already playing the fringe players. Maybe we might give Presley, Stevens, Bidstrup starts against Bristol City if that’s a truly dead rubber but I’m not sure there’s great value in it.

The parallels between Bournemouth this season and us last season for form doesn't match up, while we'd finished alright in terms of results, mentally the players must've been devastated having came so close, but just failing to get autos.
Bournemouth this season have known for months they aren't getting top two, however they're playing as good as they have all season, have beaten Norwich and skelped Millwall and you can only presume the confidence in the camp must be sky high.

They have got good players, they were just poorly managed earlier in the season, I'm not convinced by Woodgate as a manager but he seems to have brought there confidence back.

Injuries wise they're also in a good place, with Brooks just coming back they've effectively got a fully fit squad, only Lewis Cook is missing. But then when Wiltshire can't get a game they're pretty well covered...

Whereas we're currently missing our first choice full backs who were integral, our most creative midfielder, the natural replacement to that creative midfielder...
Anything can happen over 90 minutes of course and I'm still optimistic, but when you write it down it doesn't look good.

If anything I've said is wrong feel free to call me out on it, I highly doubt me writing down my musings on our playoff chances will have any effect in the playoffs, as such I'm alright with writing them down.

Just a thought.

Thought it might have crushed the almost hopeless optimism of the first part of your last thought. Just a thought.

It’s not even worth entering the play offs is it?
Imagine having to play Bournemouth. A team we’ve already beaten this season.
It doesn’t bear thinking about.

It could be an unusual case of us finishing 4th or 5th and beating Swansea (again in the semi's) and then playing Barnsley in a one of match in the final. Everyones proper excited about how good Bournemouth are but we've beaten them this season already. Plus, we had similar form to them at the end of last season around about this time, didn't end that great for us. The play offs are incredibly good fun, I know we don't always turn up but we've just been given at least 2 more Brentford games on the end of our season, how good is that!?

I sort of know what you mean but nevertheless the feeling of despair against Yeovil at Wembley 15 minutes from the end when I just knew we would not equalise; entering the 80th minute against Stoke at Cardiff and no sign of a goal; the Fulham free-kick last year! Some of my very VERY worst moments as a Bees' fan.

Please spare me another lads! :)

We’ve got to make the play offs first.
I’m not saying we won’t, clearly we are good enough, but if we lose at Bournemouth and Reading beat Swansea, could be a really tight run in.
I believe we’ll finish 4th though.
And the difference for us this year is we are very solid at the back generally and have only lost 7 games.

That’s the excitement. We could finish anywhere between 2nd and 7th with 4 games left. Both 2nd and 7th are highly unlikely today but either might be much more real looking by Saturday evening. 20 minutes in to the home game v Bournemouth I thought we could be on the end of a hiding. At half time at home to Preston although it had been rather against the run of play, I thought we were safe at 2-0 up. Let’s not overthink a future which as fans we have no control.

realistically we only need to draw two more games out of 4 to make it, and that assumes reading will win their last three..

When we went up at Peterborough for the week before all listened to was shout to the top by style council. I remember getting home after the game...very late and via a Peterborough nick and putting it on 30 times on repeat on the cd player.
This time it has to be Hard to beat.
Let this be the tune that takes is up.
Imagine the the Brentford band playing it live at LR the first game in the premiership next season in front of a full house.

Bournemouth could potentially have a chance of automatic in their last game as well if Watford lose their next 2 games so I wouldn't so quick to dismiss the parallels just yet however unlikely that is. Still 3/4 games to go so lets see what happens between now and the end of the season.

All this talk about play offs I think we should wait till we are mathematically in them first

We're definitely not thinking we're going to walk the play offs - You lot have been a bit quiet lately, so we are waiting for you to spring back to your best. I'd say we are probably joint 3rd best teams in the division when it clicks?

Weird season...Didn't even think we'd be close a few weeks back..then we beat Swansea and it was back on again. Play offs will be fun and we probably really do need to get back up to help fund the training ground etc..although this division is great.

Whatever happens, if you or Barnsley go up it will be deserved.

How do you know that

for all the 'we're crap' stuff, we haven't lost in ages and that was to Norwich. I'd back us to get at least 2 points from the last 4 and I certainly wouldnt back Reading to win all their remaining games, in fact they're currently below us in the form table..

You're right. We could win all our four remaining matches (such things have happened in the past), and Watford, apart from losing to us, might take only a point from their two other games. All well within the bounds of possibility.

In our dreams.

True, but let's be honest; apart from Norwich, we really haven't played any decent teams in the past 10 games have we. Today is much more of a test.

It always seems to me that the Wembley pitch looks larger. Barnsley-style high pressing would seem to work less well on a pitch like that with more space to pass around.

What hoodoo? Ok, a bit of chutzpah and cheating from Fulham, an early own goal against Stoke (and a measly Bees turn out). but usually just out-played and out-fought on the day. Crewe, for example, were a revelation, I recall. Turn it round.

Seems as though it's the same length and one metre wider. So, we're doomed even if we get to Wembley against the Barnsley Supermen.

Not conceding a goal (Except one from the penalty spot) for nigh-on 6 whole games must be a good sign for the play-offs (should we have to play in them of course!)

We shouldn't fear any of these sides but I would also add im not reading too much into the fact we've done the double over Bournemouth as we had also doubled Fulham.
