I have to admit to being mildly concerned.... not at the Leeds ****, but the absence of the captain in the photo....

Me too and it was a Brentford not Leeds fan that reported that he remained at the ground until 11:30pm after the Barnsley game. He may have minor problem that's needing treatment / rest that kept him away from the rest of the group.

I’m not saying there’s anything in this story but all of the other players you mention are in the photo.
Possibly signing a pre-contract with a big Premiershite club like ...... Leeds?

Well, he's in Swansea. Maybe he went there early for Christmas Shopping and missed the pic.

I do wonder if there is a non promotion release transfer fee. Say something like £5million if we don't go up he can go. He was a coup and has had a fabulous season.

I would have thought that he's happy at Brentford, with additional responsibilities and a great working environment, so would not be actively looking for a move, whatever division we're in. I can't see him as a regular starter in a Premier League team and, if we are promoted, it's an area we certainly need to strengthen with a view to a phase over. He's been the right player at the right time for us, excellent captain and defensive organiser, but he won't get quicker or improve his technique much.

I think he’d be a regular starter for us in the PL!

Yes, a regular starter for us but with a ready replacement standing by. I just think the PL attackers require defenders to have more speed.

Being happy and the potential to earn triple his salary are two different things. I have no doubt his love for Malmö will mean he'll want to spend the last couple of his playing years their. A money move before that I don't think he would turn down.

Pontus is as quick as Egan, Tarkowski, O'Connell. Or Harry Maguire who apparently is worth £80m. He has coped well enough playing in a very high line with first Leeds and now us.

In my personal opinion, the combination of his lack of initial speed and desire to get to everything causes issues at this level, evidenced in recent games. It doesn't outweigh the upside now but, in the PL, it will be exacerbated, just as it causes problems for the players you've listed, all of whom are younger.

The comparison with Maguire says it all. Egan, O'Connell, Tarkowski have thrived at that level and Konsa may do eventually. Maguire has the turning circle of a tank and lacks pace. If he is worth £80m then Pontus was an absolute steal for us. Pontus's captaincy and mental strength would be massive assets in the PL never mind his ability.

Jansson is fine on the ball. If we go up we are not going to be dominating games like we do now, if Egan is good enough so is Jansson (and Pinnock).
If we want to play out quickly from the back we need one of the CBs to be better on the ball. The last few games teams have isolated Pontus and Pinnock and we’ve had huge trouble playing out.. have high hopes for Racic in this regard, he’s an excellent footballer but might be a while before his defensive side is up to the level required..

If we go up it will be in large part because of our solid defence. The teams that stay in the Premier League after going up are generally the ones with solid defences. If we can get more of a ball playing CB as a bench option then fine but otherwise we should prioritise defensive skills and stick with what we have. Good luck finding someone who can defend like Pontus and pass like Bonucci, it’s not going to happen.

What on earth was he playing out. My first reaction if we f*** this up it could only be Brentford.

Thankfully it wasn't costly and his first and last big mistake of the season.

I didn’t like the fact he seemed to be blaming others after making that rickett.

Admitted it was an aberration in the interview after.

Other than that what a signing. Would be fitting if he scored his first goal for us in the final and took us up 😀

One mistake all season. Didn’t cost us anything. Just a nail or two.

Big match needed next Tuesday. :)
