He's been a bit iffy last few games and that put us massively under pressure but HUGE header out from their last corner... You're no Said, Pontus, just kick the bloody thing next time!!!

I wondered if it was anything to do with his hip injury. Couldn't turn or something. Very unlike him. Didn't matter in the end though.

Jansson was injured mid-January, I think, so was out until the restart in June, so missed 5 months of competitive games, then straight into 2 games a week of intensity. That's a heavy reintroduction and he's got noticeably out-of-sorts in the last few. Poor headed clearances leading to shots from just outside our box; giving away a penalty and then an inexplicable attempt to start an attack with his back to play. I'd put it down to mental fatigue as well as physical.

Was cussing him for 10 minutes after and then they got a corner late on, swung in and boom, a huge header out from Pontus, all was forgiven !

Been top man all season. Maybe lacks a yard of pace for the top flight. But lots to offer.

He was fit for the original Fulham fixture in March.

Didn’t look himself today. Slow, loose in possession and nearly lost it towards the end out of frustration.

Less than impressive today but with him out of the side last season we had a rough patch that contributed to missing out on top 2 - bit of an enigma at times.

I always feel more confident when he’s on the team sheet but he does have the odd mistake In him. His part in their goal was embarrassing. If it had been Marcondes or Jensen, this place would have been in meltdown. Having said all that, I’ll still be happy to see his name on the team sheet next time around.

He was poor today but usually he is very good, as a defender and a captain.

You only have to look at our record with and without him last season to realise that.

Frequency of mistakes definitely on the rise. Great defending the box and within the width of the penalty area but becoming a liability out wide and higher up the pitch. He's still in the best 11 but that might not be the case after Christmas.

I still have to make myself realise sometimes that I used to write on The Eddie Hutchinson and Ricky Shakes threads and now I’m on a thread about our Swedish international Captain who is a regular top 5 defenders in our league.

Form is temporary, class Is permanent...
Brentford statistically and in formation are better with Pontus playing each week.

I have to say when we signed Pontus I was absolutely ecstatic but have to say have gradually become underwhelmed, yes we missed him at the start of the year but during the few crucial final games he made some crucial mistakes the worst one being the goal he gifted to Swansea in the second leg and then had the cheek to look around looking to blame someone else. When he played for Leeds he was one of those players that really got to me, always in the officials faces, moaning about everything, a few heavy challenges as well as the occasional goal, (sometimes against us) and now he seems to be a reformed character, I'm wondering if he's thinking about the fallout with Bielsa , looking at Leeds now and thinking what if, 'cos he certainly isn't the same player of 2 or 3 years ago.

Blimey, reading the commments on other player threads, Marcondes, Daniels, Jensen, Thompson, Jansson I'm surprised we didn't lose 5 or 6-0.

A lot of players weren't at their best yesterday so we did really well to get a point at a place we don't normally pick anything up.

don’t talk nonsense. Look at our record without him last season.

he was turned inside out yesterday for their goal but where was the other defenders with the header?

he is a rock.

I saw Jeanvier improve in his time here. Can’t say the same about Pontus.
not sure how you can say a player bought specifically during his peak for that reason isn’t improving. I don’t think we bought him to sell on, we bought him to he as is.

Due to injuries Pontus has slowed down over the years (possibly even during the last 12 months). He has admitted this, but he largely makes up for it through good positioning and experience. He has a key leadership role and whether anyone else could fulfil that role is doubtful.

Really poor defending from Pontus. Put us on the back foot straight away. Need better from him as our captain. Going to places like Millwall we need to be strong from the off, keep things tight and fight to play our game. We often seem to start off slowly. Is it a mentality thing? Once we're 1 down in these games we almost need to swap him out for a more accomplished ball player, needed him and Pinnock to push on into midfield and move the ball quicker but it's not really PJs game. Anyway, despite all that it's a decent point but we need to cut out these errors at the back, all the goals we've conceded so far have been preventable..

End of this season, Jansson will be 30 with one year left on his contract.

This is a player that spent several months out last season injured with what appears to be a chronic hip injury.

He’s an excellent player and captain, but if he’s going to lead us to promotion it’s got to be this year. Charlie Goode

We do have an option to extend for a further year, but expect that will only be triggered if we get promoted.

If we are in the same position in 12 months we will probably want to consider selling to recoup some of our investment and Jansson will probably want one last big contract whilst he has the chance.

Just my take, could be barking up the wrong tree.

Maybe, but Norgaard seems to be the one providing the impetus and inspiration on the pitch at the moment..
I agree, IMO Norgaard is our best player, but not's start writing Pontus off just yet ?

No, of course not. Early days and everyone still getting up to speed after a v short pre-season but just need to see a bit more consistency from him and a bit more leading by example. Would love to see him being more positive with the ball too, especially when 1 down...

Mick MaCarthy did come out with a classic quote after that mistake something like "look he's that good
he' s looking around for someone to blame"... Made me laugh anyway :D

Are they rainbow laces, and is the picture of Pontus tying the laces up?
