Wobbly first half, rescued a couple of times by Mads Bech but much more solid second, including a very important clearance after Alvaro's save from Ings.

Half the season gone and Captain Fantastic is top of the minutes played for us, with all our PL minutes bar the final 8(+7) at Wolves under his belt. I doubt many would have predicted that! Hope he puts his feet up in front of the fire on Saturday afternoon...

WhoScored has his minutes at 1,702 and a slightly different sequence below that; only PL, though. Interestingly, Fernández has now overtaken Raya.

Was about to mention Fernandez.

For me has really stepped up and shown immense leadership this season. Does drop the occasional clanger and wobbly game but never let's it phase him and is back on it soon enough. A real warrior and yes hope the contract extension option is taken up.

Agreed, defiantly deserve a new two year contract.

Perhaps there's an agreement that we'll let him leave to the destination of his choosing (i.e. Malmö) with our best wishes?

Hopefully I'm not posting a knee jerk reaction, but Pontus seems to be increasingly more and more susceptible to making mistakes due to poor positioning and lack of pace.
Whilst he should be given every chance to rediscover his form, he can't possibly keep making mistakes and yet retain his place in the team?

He had a stinker today. Directly responsible for two goals. It's not knee jerk, but unfortunately with our resources and squad depth dropping players isn't that viable.

True. But I just feel that his time with the Bees is starting to feel like it needs to come to an end. Perhaps we really do need to offload him in summer.
It's a shame because he really wanted to (and still could) perform in his only season in the Premier League, and he's been a really good captain for us. I really really hate seeing my favourite players make mistakes on a regular basis and fall from grace.

Poor game last night. But who had a good one? Jansson is quality & is more influential than what we realise talks of letting him go are a bit uneducated. He’s a very important part of our spine & we will take some beatings like tonight on our premiership journey. I know what I’d rather a loss like that & be 12 points off relegation

I might be wrong here, but there’s something I’ve not quite understood about posts concerning Pontus.

Since being in the prem, he’s been good. I wouldn’t say great, but good.

However, when discussing games when he has a stinker, a lot of posts say “ well, he had a bad day, but I’ll let him off because overall he’s been great”. Whilst other players, principally MJ, Goode and even MBS sometimes get it in the back on numerous occasions.

Perhaps it’s loyalty or respect for his past leadership, but he was AWFUL tonight. AWFUL. Do I think we should sell as some have suggested, no. Do I think he’s the great leader, the reliable warrior he once was, no.

His susceptibility to making errors is becoming a concern for me. Often caused by a lack of pace. Again, it’s subjective, but I do think that as captain, some of those errors are quite alarming.

He's been great this season as a leader and the rock in the middle of our defence, but his lack of pace and occasionally erratic positioning is why he can't play in a back 4 in the Premier League. He'd be very difficult to replace, but his limitations (plus our lack of right-back) are restricting our options for how we set up in games.

Entire defence and goalkeeper were below standard tbh. Very disappointing. Pontus had a poor game. We'll look to replace him in the summer.

We looked like we lacked leadership and a defence last night.

That's not solely down to Pontus though.

I think you sum things up nicely. He is solid and commanding, wins quite a bit in the air, but he seriously lacks pace and more and more in the Prem, especially with our high line, leaving everyone up for set pieces/corners most of the time, we can get hopelessly caught out. The presence of Ajer and Henry help massively because they have more pace and can cover. Pontus is also prone to moments of madness which I haven't seen as much from the other CBs.
In the back 5 with others to bail him out of his weaknesses, I'd still have him in. Are MBS or Goode a better option? There are people who know far more than me on here to judge on this

Bad day at the office last night. I thought we had a strong team out with 9 of the starting 11 being our likely preferred starters albeit with Canos out of position. But the lack of the missing 2 showed what the team is built on- a full 11 as a team. Without Henry there to mop up counters and breaks with his pace and Raya with his press-beating distribution we are much weaker as a unit.

I think it may be his last season with us, while he is a great defender, his incredible lack of pace and sometimes his dodgy positioning as seen for their 3rd goal, leave us struggling at the back. He can't play in a back 4 because of his lack of once and that limits us massively. Needs to be replaced in the summer I think, I really hate to see Pontus underperform but he is making mistakes often now and if we want to kick on, I don't think he is the way forward. Still a very good player for possibly another Prem team or top Championship team

I hate to say this as he is one of my favourite players, It's been coming slowly but that was probably the worst game he's played for us, Didn't look at all engaged or even interested, lacked leadership on the pitch, Body language all wrong, Is talk of a move away with all the press speculation affected him? We know he's not the fastest, but he seemed even slower and cumbersome last night, His distribution (like the rest of the team) was very poor, his defensive heading was weak and misdirected, He was brought in to help get us promotion, That he achieved, Has time now caught up with him, But at this level we need better to survive and progress, This is not just a dig at him as there were others out there equally as bad.

Agree, hopefully like Dalsgaard he will choose the time to walk away.

No defending the performance yesterday, he had a shocker and that's compounded by the fact that as your skipper you look to him for motivation. However with Ajer looking rusty, Pinnock not having one of his better games and with confidence ebbing from our keeper I'm not quite ready to take him out back of the Community Stadium and shoot him or buy him a one way ticket to Malmo quite yet.....

Been a good servant and helped to teach others about defending. If another team offered good money for him we should take it. I think he is very good when we have the speed around him. I think MBS will take over that role, much faster. EP has been exposed without Rico outside him, but .out teams would miss Rico.

They wouldn’t of scored the 3rd had rico been playing he’s the one who normally races back and catches people when they counter us thank god he’s back Sunday, Alvaro is a concern he doesn’t look comfortable

That’s harsh he’s been solid all season hence why Everton and Newcastle and Leicester was after him he had a poor game yesterday but he’s a good leader I want him to sign a new contract my opinion !

Do you honestly believe those clubs were after him?

I’m sorry, Pontus does have leadership skills, but if you think Leicester City, a Europa League team, were honestly after him then I reckon we’re after CR9!

He's been excellent all season ,lets not be silly because of one bad game
This 👆

He's made plenty of mistakes over the time he's been with us. Swansea play offs second league 2 years ago anyone? But he brings far more to the table when the team are performing. He had a bad night, as did the others, move on but let's not get carried away!

Who was it who was insistent there was no contract extension option?
@AB, you are my go-to legal expert on here, but in this case why would there need to have been an option in place, if both parties had consensually agreed the benefit of an extension. It feels like the club were simply making it a more 2-way agreement, rather than forcing the position themselves. INNWT !?

Was it someone that needs to revisit what the definition of 'seldomly' is? 🤔
To be fair it doesn’t mean never. But it may be strained by the rumour strength ratings on a number of other players at the moment!
