If he doesn’t go to Malmo in the summer he’ll sign a new contract

I highly doubt we'll be offering a new contract. He's 31 in February. He's been an important player in our history but the summer feels like the right time to upgrade.

Pro - We'll never get a bigger fee for him than we might in January. If we were ever going to sell, now is the time.
Con- Not all about money. His leadership is vital at the back. We certainly don't need to sell.

Personally, it wouldn't surprise me to see him go, but it would take a massive fee and a huge payday for him to want to move. After all, those are all clubs who are really in no better position than us. He's done the job he was signed for (to get us promoted) and has done a decent job for us in the PL. We'd be able to sign a better defender for the money we'd get. However, we still need leaders on the pitch. We have IT and CN - I am not sure if KA yet has the same leadership qualities to marshall the defence.

Indeed. No option to extend either.

If we can't trust the Brentford First Team Squad thread what can we trust??

Correct. Can’t see him being with us past May.

What a strange article based on nothing. "Leicester and Newcastle probably want to buy a defender. Here's one who is playing quite well".

Why do you think it's based on nothing? They are not likely to come out and just name their sources in the article.

Pontus going scares me today given our lack of fit CBs. Him going for silly money mid-late January when we have Pinnock, MBS, Ajer, Zanka all back and Goode having carried on his great development, I think would make me laugh like a drain. He’d remain a club hero, he’s scored, we can replace and have other leaders to take the armband.

He won't go with replacements coming in.

He wanted to join us didn’t he, it probably wasn’t for the money. Could see Leicester for two years or even West Ham to stay in London but would be surprised at either Everton or Newcastle.

Unless Newcastle offer silly money I think he’s back off to his childhood club Malmö next season with our blessing. Leeds will believe he’s desperate to join their Roundhay Ultras bless ‘em

He has talked about wanting to stay at this level for as long as possible, so maybe the Malmo move is not on the cards for him yet.

If that's the case and we don't want to extend his contract, it makes sense with our system and culture to take as much money for him as we can. If we sold him in January and reinvested it into Ahmedhodzic I see some sense in that; although I must say selling your starting CB, who is also your club captain, in January is a pretty ballsy move no matter how you operate!

It’d be about as textbook Brentford as it can be to sell him for a big pile of cash and best wishes on both sides while replacing him with a player in a similar mould nearly ten years younger on the way up.

He was always in the transfer that broke the mould in terms of his age and apparent lack of resale value but if we sell him in Jan for anything close to what we paid it may be go down as the best piece of business yet

How ? it would weaken us and strengthen a rival.

Reckon we'll do a Dalsgaard and let him go end of season with good wishes. Won't be much money for him I'd have thought

Would of thought we'd keep him on the books until the end and possibly even got him to sign up for another year with us. Failing that let him go and he'd likely end up at Malmö. He's only 30, definitely got some years in him yet.

In his latest interview on Brentford YouTube show he stayed wanted to play at this level for long as possible I think the move back to Malmö will be 32/33 age. So that's one more season at least to play in PL. Can't see a club paying big money for one season out of him. He'll probably extend for a year and leave the year after off to Malmö.
