On train back, excellent performance all over the pitch today Sam included.Preston were as expected hoof ball and fight for the second ball against our very good passing game.Swift was my motm but many were a close second.Barbet looks great on the ball and has a bit of pace while Josh won and kept the ball well.We were all over them up till they scored from their first attack and we deserved to go in ahead at ht after Judges superb goal.Garner should never have been on the pitch for the second half after twice being involved in blatent cheating and throwing an elbow at sam.Vibe run his cods off and kept their donkeys at the back busy.Yet again we prove we can win well without our so called star players who want to move on.Nice to hear the M Benham song along with the tarkowski one.Well done Bees you made me proud yet again today.

Thanks Bill. Loved the way the lads looked up at you lot when Swift scored.

1st back home ? We did good. Controlled game for the vast majority, if not 80 minutes of it.
Fantastic cross field pass by Barbet for 2nd goal and amazing save by Button in 2nd half. Other end of pitch, but it looked out if this world.
Referee was another one of those lightweights. He should've sent Garner off for them. They were diving all around our box, looking for fouls in the 1st half ... But anyway. We were excellent all over the pitch, I thought
Pies were amazing too :) had 2 and 8 out of 10's.
Still got the old Toumani song and now Maxime's, going around in my head !

Some nice things said on the PNE forum (makes a change from some teams)

Today's game showed our limitations , Brentford played fast one or two touch football their movement was far better than ours also their ability to keep the ball especially in the first half we couldn't put more two passes together .

Credit must be given to Brentford today, one of the best footballing outfits that's come to Deepdale this season and did a job on us. Swift and Woods (Scholes-esque) were quality from midfield.

Brentford were a very decent team.

It's not pleasing to watch from a North End supporter's but that goal of Judge's was sublime,

There was nothing mediocre about Brentford today. They outthought, out passed and completely outplayed PNE today. Apart from a short spell in the second half after the subs when we made the chances named already we were a weary looking second best.

On the train home. Well we certainly needed that! Great win and in the end it was comfortable but at 2-1 Button makes arguably the best save i've ever seen live and that probably wins us the game. Fine margins indeed but after a tough couple of weeks hopefully today was a change in fortunes and season back on track.

Started well and first 20 minutes we out passed and out played Preston, we made the pitch big and kept our wide players on the touch line. Saunders tripped on the edge of the box and Bidwell curls a beauty that takes the slightest of touches off a Preston player and into the top corner. But out of nowhere and with their first attack, Preston equalise. Barbet gets caught out by a long ball and Dean comes over to cover, poor clearance from Harlee straight to the edge of the box and their midfielder finishes well into the bottom corner.

The game picked up challenges started to fly in all over the park, Colin somehow picking up a booking for apparently a late challenge that seemed soft. But we took the lead just before half time, Barbet with a superb ball over their left back, Judge first touch takes him through on goal and he cuts inside onto his left to fire past the keeper and defenders. Just on half time and Garner leaves one on Saunders after Saunders tackled him, seemed like a red and after a long debate the ref bottled it and only issued a yellow.

Second half Preston improved and pushed us back, McEachran and Woods had to be on top of their games to keep out the threat posed. With the weather worsening, we had to weather a different storm as a ten minute period had us on the ropes as Preston threw everything at us for an equaliser. One header, came back off the post and one was ruled out for offside but the turning point was Button's save. A shot lashed towards goal in the driving rain, one of their players flicks out a leg and diverts the ball seemingly towards the back of the net but incredibly Button reacts tip the ball away at full stretch.

We regrouped and Kerschbaumer on for McEachran and Canos on for Saunders and the latter played a big part in the third goal. A strong run and deft flick set up the outstanding Colin who overlapped, took his time and picked out Swift who shot first time, slight deflection and into the net over the keeper. Great celebrations and the game was up, Preston kept pushing but we held out comfortably.

A much needed win after two weeks of defeats, players leaving and players refusing to play. Today showed that we still do have quality players who care for this club and want to do well. Anyone who says the foreign lads don't care and are just here for the money need to take a look at the celebrations for the 3rd goal and take note.

Preston have been on a good run so let's take nothing away from this result. Season is well and truly back on track and hopefully we can beat Leeds on Tuesday and we are right back in the playoff push.

Really liked the midfield balance today and Woods and McEachran helds things together brilliantly. Barbet has outstanding distribution and a wand of a left foot but is still learning how to be a centre back in English football. With time he will be an excellent player.

Colin, well what more can you say. Probably our best signing of the season.

Great support as ever by the 600 odd today, everyone very positive and getting behind the team. Bring on Leeds Tuesday.

Grayson saw it differently, and on the BBC he said "In the second half we laid siege to the Brentford goal" ........ yet still conceded two goals :D

He also said they were disappointed with the goals they let in

If you don't want to concede the first one don't give away free kicks there and the second was exceptional skill so difficult to defend against

If Judge was given the one against Bristol and then the Button OG against Boro was given to the corner taker I can not see how Bids won't get this one.
Swifts goal seemed to take more of touch on the way in than bidwells.

Strange, we win yet only 20 posts by 10.30, wonder how many there would have been if we had lost, a reflection perhaps on the view point of some supporters ????!!!!

Still celebrating on way back . Many bees on the 19:01 train looked a little weary in Euston...myself included !

Solid 7 and 8/10 for everyone. MOTM has to be Button for the WORLDIE save.

After the 2016 we have had so far that was just what we needed. Onwards and upward to Leeds on Tuesday.

Great day.

Players looked well drilled and highly motivated. Loads of positives - Button save was a jump out of your seat moment. Josh played his best game for us so far and Swift wasn't far behind in that respect. For those that said if we play like we did against Boro or the second half against Burnley we will be fine - they were right. We were fine.

Superb performance and day out. Button's save really was unbelievable - full stretch at incredible speed following the shot from only a couple of yards out.

Barbet played extremely well and his assist for Judge's goal was simple football executed absolutely perfectly, if you know what I mean! 4 touches of perfection: Barbet's pass and judge's control, drag inside and finish. Just wonderful to watch.

Garner is a nasty cheating piece of work. Not sure if he really caught Saunders when he swung an arm but if the officials think he did, he definitely should've seen red. Can't understand them booking him, it seemed to me to be a red or nothing. Saying that, he could easily have been booked already for some of his aerial "challenges" where he just ran into Harlee, or for simulation after going down holding his face regardless of where on his body there was contact!

Impressed with Woods, Swift, Colin and Barbet in particular today. Felt Vibe ran himself into the ground without much help up top and nearly no service, that hard work surely makes a difference for the rest of the team when coming forward.

Finally - I saw Bidwell score and I don't think I ever thought I would! Cracking free kick and I don't think it took a deflection at all, let alone one significant enough to change it from off target to on.

Great win for DS after a really turbulent week. It's been a massive first test for him and he has passed it with something to spare! I particularly love the fact that he played Barbet today and that we are thus staying true to our footballing principles. That's almost more important to me than the win TBH, though it's very nice to have both!

Going into the game I was apprehensive, playing against the "form team" on the back of four defeats.
When the team sheet came out, again worried about the size of our midfield.
Whistle goes and from the very start, it was clear that we started with pace and intent.
It was a clear game of us playing football vs them hoofing.
They were dirty and could have seen many more cards in the first half, with one of them being a straight red.
Free kick on the edge of the box, expected Sam and Judge to fight for it, then Bidwell gave them something to think about, fantastic strike (didn't see a deflection and having seen highlights on sky, still couldn't see one that warrants hin being robbed of the goal).
Before we could stop celebrating, we were picking the ball out of the net, didn't see how it happened, even seeing it on Sky, looked like a neat piece of play and slotted home.
Then a brilliant pass, take and finish, not too dissimilar to Canos vs Reading, 40 yard pass, took down first time, Judge drilled it home right on half time.
Second half they came at us and we wobbled, looked like an equaliser was coming, hit the post, goal disallowed that we all thought was going to be given and a huge sigh of relief came from us, a wonderful reflex save from button that had him twisting and turning to get to the ball. (Stick a swimming pool under him and Tom Daley will be concerned whether he was going to get the nod for Brazil) but then we regrouped.
Good sensible subs and we back in the ascendency, great run by Colin, pulled it back to Swift and it took a deflection and looped in slow motion while we all watched.
Cue delirious celebration.
We played the game out without really threatening, but also without any hint of conceding.

I thought we played well, but this was not vintage Brentford from last year, we wholly deserved the three points, but there still times when we did not tick.
Nothing went right for Vibe and this was a game that our lightweight midfield won.
Thought Josh and Swift did better than OK, but nothing to fear the big guns in the league though, Judge, Bidwell, Button and Colin excelled.
Barbet did well, will remember his 40 yard pass, but thought some of his defensive positioning still needs work, but think we will see him against Leeds.
Vibe tries, but added nothing.
Didn't think Sam added too much.

Will take the three points and a win against Leeds and that gap to 6th place is closing, especially with games against Brighton, Hull and Derby all on the horizon.
Give us a strong Feb and who knows...

Great to see Barbet and Colin in front of the fans enjoying the final whistle celebrations
See you all at GP Tuesday !

Just what we needed after the last week and a bit. A result to put into perspective where we currently are after playing two of the best teams in the Division. Preston had been in decent form coming into the game but there was no comparison between us and pure football overcame play acting and snidey brutality. We are nicely settled in the Championship and rightly deserve to be there.

Fine margins and all that because who knows whether we'd have kicked on a third time if the disallowed goal or save of the century had turned out differently. However we were so much better as some of the home fans have conceded in as many words above.

Barbet settled my stomach which had been churned up by Jack a bit against Burnley and Colin proved the Burnley first half was all wrong and that he is both a good defender and an offensive threat. Glad for Button after the Middlesborough blip because he is so much better than what other footy fans will have laughed at after seeing that 'highlight'. Also good to see the midfield work with the negative brigade ready to attack after waving Toums off.

I get individuals being disappointed by seeing the back of players that have brought them joy in red and white but these things do happen for a variety of reasons (not just down to the aspirations of the football club) and if the mission statement is to provide a sustainable football club/team for the long term and not just a flash in the pan period of ecstasy waiting to go tits up and sees us back where we were ten years ago, I dont get the vitriol and chirping at how this IS currently being achieved. I just don't see why fans can't enjoy the ride but then they obviously dont have the level of trust and belief that I do.

Preston away was a great day all round but we know that the day will largely stand and fall by what happens on the pitch. Although Accrington away as an example would again be a great day I'm sure, how the fack can people complain about where we are now and how we got here and intend to remain here. Cheers MB and thanks for setting up a great ride to Preston on 23.1.16!

Wasn't able to be there due to other commitments but, by co-incidence found myself driving home down the M6 at about 16.30 in the Preston area and listening to BBC Radio Lancashire. Of course I was desperate for information on the latest score and was delighted to hear we were 2-1 up, then very relieved to hear shortly after that we'd got a third and clinching goal. I punched the air to celebrate!

However, the impression I got from Radio Lancs was that we'd been very lucky. PNE had twice hit the woodwork, had a goal disallowed for a very marginal offside and Button had pulled off a string of outstanding saves. From the radio updates and from Grayson's post-match interview it sounded like a real "smash and grab" raid and that Preston had been extremely unfortunate to lose. The decision not to red card Garner was widely applauded as "very sensible refereeing" as he had "not intended anything malicious".

Obviously I discounted this to some extent as being local bias but what a contrast to the reports on here! I suppose that it's the result that matters most of all and that RL's opinion is academic now but it would be interesting to hear from someone who was there - were we really worthy winners or just lucky? A really honest, "hand on heart" view would be welcome!

re-posted for those who can't be bothered to scroll back up :)

From the highlights it is clear they had some good chances, but you would expect that from a home team on a good run. However, the above suggests we were in control for most of the game and so do most of our fans' reports.

I wasn't at the game but really pleased to hear Barbet played as well as he did. Fantastic if he turns out to be a straight slot in replacement for JT. i've alwasy been a big fan of Colin, he looks a class FB so with the pair of them things could be looking good for a settled back 4. And what save from Button....fecking incredible.

Yes, that's at odds with RL's partisan view.

Trust your own fans, it was football v thuggery and for 15/20 mind their long ball stuff worked but we dug in, Button did his job and some, we then took over again and we won well, it wasn't lucky, we would have been unlucky not to have won.

That seems to be the general view. Which is encouraging! And, even if we did ride our luck a bit in the second half, surely we were due a bit of fortune after unlucky defeats against Birmingham and Middlesbrough?

Disappointing though that the BBC is so blatantly biased. (They really gave us no credit whatsoever and the impression I got on Radio Lancashire was that we'd escaped a heavy defeat only by a miracle). Yes, of course they have to respond to local interest in local teams but you'd think they might be a bit more objective!

An excellent performance and result for us. First 20 minutes we retained the ball very well, at times could not see how Preston would get the ball back which I am sure frustrated their fans. 22 minutes an excellent freekick from Jake to put us one up. Slightly disappointing that we let them back into it 2 minutes later, but we came back from that and a sublime pass from Barbet set up Judge for our second just before half time. Second half Preston came at us and had us under the cosh for a 10-15 minute spell. 2 excellent saves from Button, a bad miss from Doyle and a Garner goal ruled out for offside kept us ahead then in the 80th minute another great move, Canos setting Colin free to cross for a deflected Swift shot to put us 3-1 up and game over. Last 10 minutes was very comfortable, overall an excellent team performance. I felt Preston were no better than the last time we met at Deepdale, they may do enough to stay up this year but will definitely be in the lower half come May.

Just watched the extended highlights, 43 minutes! Well worth it. :)

A great win yesterday, fully deserved, against a side who seem to look to cheat, dive, thump and kick their way to gain points. The best team won, no more needs to be said. :)

Disappointing though that the BBC is so blatantly biased. (They really gave us no credit whatsoever[!

BBC Radio 5 Live only reported at 1708hrs yesterday that "Brentford have just scored to make it 3-1 against Preston". By my reckoning that was about 14 minutes after we'd actually scored :(
