We should set up some scales at the turnstiles and only those with a healthy bmi can sing "you fat bastard"
No need for scales. I'll stand just inside, people can sing it to me and if I think they are calling the kettle black I'll suggest they are banned from that particular melody. Most will be just fine. :)

Perhaps if you had actually read my post you would have seen that I completely agree with that.
I had noted that, but was just quoting your post as a subject matter followed separately with my own opinion that was agreeing with you, sorry if that wasn't clear?

Possibly the most famous Jamaican folk song of all time remembered as a Trio Biscuit advert. Only on the GPG. 😂
😁 Fair point although also to be fair, it was the Trio advert's lyrics where the Deano song materialised from.

Or those failing may only sing "you fat bastard, you fat bastard, we know how it feels".

Here, there and everywhere......
There's people posting on here that are either relatively new to football or just needy and easily upset. Either way go and watch crown green bowling or shut up moaning. I honestly thought this thread was just where all the trolls get together for a laugh.

We’re Brentford FC we’ll sing what we want

Incorrect. We clearly can’t sing what we want - if we do, this part of the GPG will explode with pearl clutching loons engaging in mass virtue signalling about the use of the words tits and fannies, for instance. 🤓

On the subjects of chants that used to be, I miss 'Wise men Say.....'

Very concerned that you appear to be mid-gendering the wise people - what happens if they identify as non-binary? The use of the word ‘wise’ also patently excludes those of lesser mental abilities. And I’m disappointed that those unable to speak might feel marginalised by this song.

I don’t think you’ve really thought this one through, have you? 🤓

You don't have to be a pearl clutching loon to know that considering women as nothing more that a pair of tits and a fanny is disrespectful, it also probably has to be the attitude of the self entitled pig who spiked the drink and date raped my niece. You might think it's fun but if you gave it serious thought and consideration you'd understand it's wrong. And I'll add that I enjoy a good sexual relationship with my wife, but she has other values to myself and society.

Now that we're playing Watford again - was thinking about the 'Don't bend down, when Elton's around chant...' - Clearly not Ok in 2021 - but it was a strange one even then - although clearly homophobic - it had an upbeat, musical hall rhythm and, if interpreted with a queer eye, is actually a backhanded compliment to Reg Dwight's phenomenal sexual potency - or perhaps with a post-modern twist, it can be seen as a gentle warning to Watford fans to not give in to the latent homosexual urges hidden by over-assertively straight men who might, indeed, be tempted to bend down... It's one of those odd ones, like singing about the size of black players penises or Victoria Beckham's sexual preferences - accidentally reveals more than it intended...
Just to make it clear, not in any way seeking to revive - feel embarrassed to have sung it with gusto at the time

You’re putting people who sing that song in the same bracket as rapists?

Wow. Just wow.

....with all due respect....this story is for a psychotherapist....not the GPG.

People singing a song (that i agree is out dated) puts them in the same attitude bracket as rapists?? Come on really?

Sad to read what your family has gone through that must be truely horrible. Please dont take offence as im not trying to be argumentative here, but i think you are blowing it completely out of proportion.

Firstly, sorry for your niece’s terrifying incident, the detest that most men feel for sexual deviants is heartfelt imo, however people that sing a song aren’t fair game to be likened to these deviants, again imo.

Griffin Green has made a fair point. Whilst I wouldn’t say everyone singing the song is a potential rapist I would say that sex offenders feel emboldened when attitudes that the song promotes are deemed to be generally acceptable. Challenging those attitudes is worth doing to help achieve a change in behaviour.

I feel like I need a therapist having read the last 2 pages of this thread. I think we're in danger of some serious over analysis here....

This thread was about one chant and one chant only. OK it's taken a few diversions, but it is still about one chant.

I would humbly suggest that those that are adamant it must be retained are in the minority. And the GPG demographic is one that I thought would be supportive of the chant...if any.

So probably overreaction on both sides IMHO.

There used to be old songs sung at GP in the 60s. "Strolling" was one sung straight- apart from "cos a motorcar is phoney, I'd rather shag a pony" and "Cockles and Mussels" with some embellished lyrics some of which wouldn't pass modern censors although I liked the "As she wheeled her wheelbarrow through 'ounslow and 'arrow" bit. The one sung to the tune of "There's a tavern in the town" was good. I don't like most of our chants which seem to have remained unchanged for ten years or so.

Bin the boxing day songs.
We never fight and they never did run away either.

Your gonna get your f***in heads kicked in too.
Sung by a load of kids behind big steel fences.
Bin that one too.

We don't do It but one man went to mow.
No he didn't.
He was not joined by other people too.
No one mows a frigging meadow.

Chick chick chick chicken lay a little egg for me.
Chickens lay eggs.
Okay to sing that one and eggs are nice.
I heard it a game once.
Honest

We're so upset
We had some naughty songs
That the club won't let us sing

They handed out some bans
So we deduced
We clearly can't sing what we want
That penultimate line needs some work, unless I've got the tune slightly wrong, and I'm singing it like a limerick.
