Can’t see an England call-up whilst he’s playing in the Championship. Too many other players ahead of him.

If we do not get promoted he deserves a shot in the PL to challenge for that spot.

I am thankful he is still with us but Rico needs to be playing Premiership football now. That one to one battle at the end with Bright Samuels I think in the 86th minute was a joy. There was only one winner.

If Rico does have to miss a game, I'd play MBS there instead. You'll lose the attacking threat of course but you'll get some solidity and more threat from set pieces.

Agreed we need to rest him, the amount of mileage he does up and down the left side makes my Ford Capri 2.8ltr seems new. Incredible engine and stamina. What worries me is the lack of backup.

I think the timing of his introduction at such a critical time when others subs were being made down that left side was more the issue than DT perse.

Starting a game like he did against Fulham is something I'm more comfortable with.

Bit like Barbet did? Tbh it would be unfortunate to lose the threat as you say but I’d rather play him there than Thompson, we would be a lot stronger defensively. Good shout IMO

It wasn't long ago people were giving DT praise's and stating he is a good backup to Rico. I think the lack of playing time along with TF putting him on at a crucial time against Blackburn never done him any favours.

Yep I agree. It would have been much better starting with him to ease his way into a game rather than thrust into a frantic last 10 minutes cold.

So, the $64,000 question... when and how does Thomas give Rico a rest? He surely can’t keep playing every 3-4 days? Also, noticeable the last few games that opponents are resorting to cruder and naughtier ways of trying to negate him - nasty Knockhaert the latest example today. Could of had one yesterday, if Toney had passed him the ball, he had sprinted from one end to the other and was wide open for a sure goal when Toney took the option to shoot which missed, it was 5 against 2 defenders when we hit them from a break. He didn't look too pleased.

Reading's Omar Richards is a highly-rated left back. England U-21 rumoured to interest Palace, WHU (of course) and other PL clubs. He's injured, like half Reading's squad, so we won't have a chance to compare on Saturday.

One of the reasons he's managing to play so much is that he gets a nice long rest every international break. Next season, when we're in the PL and have 8 fewer league games to play he can go and get the England caps he deserves. Right now, NO!

With the crowded fixtures l would be surprised if the club subjects the squad to heavy training sessions. Maybe he just has an amazing engine. Quality every game .Shame about the crossing or he would be a full house.

If TF is as serious about Newcastle as he originally appeared, there is no way Rico will be left out. Thompson couldn't handle twelve minutes against Blackburn = he needs to go out on loan for the second half of the season to play regularly, whilst we get some competent cover in for Rico.

Did fine earlier in the season in the cup. Everyone was saying that he was looking miles better. Was unlucky to be thrown in along with Fosu ahead of him for the last few minutes. It was more the number of changes we made that caused the issues than any one individual..

Sorry but ok is not what we have been used to or what we need - Rico has set the bar at a level that Thompson cannot compete with at present.
He needs the regular football from a half season loan at least. We need better cover for Rico in the second half of the season otherwise we will be
one bad injury away from another season in the Championship, with Rico joining the expending list of players who couldn't afford to wait for the day when we finally make the Premiership.

Rico is a very good player who I suspect will end up in the Premier league, but he is playing against Reading at the weekend whilst Chillwell, Cresswell, Shaw, Bertrand are playing v other Premier League players. And that ignores Young (nearly as old as me....OK maybe not) and some from Trippier, Walkers - Peters, Walker and Trent Alexander - Arnold who due to their experience could do a good job at LB as well.
