I think I'm missing something about Bielsa. I know that lots of people say what an amazing manager he is but he barely managed to get Leeds out of the Championship, has never won any trophy of significance and all I see is someone who's supposedly ultra intelligent, but who still can't speak a word of English after living here for more than 3 years, who with his obvious OCD likes pacing around the entire coaching area and then sits on a bucket. The guy is mental and in my opinion is far from being the best manager in the North of England let alone the world!!
I mean he took Leeds from being a mid table team to Mid table Premier league in 3 seasons. He is mental, I agree. He is one of the best in the world in my opinion, his training sessions are renowned for being incredibly difficult and making his team the fittest in the league but seemed to have slipped off this season. He has a squad of mainly championship level players playing successfully in the Premier League. I'd say that makes him a pretty impressive coach, surprised he still can't speak English though
I think he can speak English passably well but chooses not to in official settings like interviews and press conferences where his words will be analysed in detail and nuance lost. This is not uncommon (eg how often do Macron & Merkel, both highly educated and fluent in English speak English publicly?).

Based on all of the above does that make Thomas Frank equally one of the best in the world? I'd say we were as fit as any Premier League team, and the majority of our players were championship (or lower) level players....and he speaks English pretty well, and I've never seen him sitting on a bucket!
This is what I hear so much but have not seen any evidence to back it up, just some weird cult following. He's a serial failure in pretty much every job he's been in, yet still people rave about what a master tactician he is.
I wouldn't say he is a serial failure. He got his first team, Newells Youth, to the Copa Libertadores Final. He got Argentina to be the first Latin-American team to win the Olympic final since 1928, in 2004. In 2008, he got Chile to beat Argentina for the first time in competitive history. I get where you are coming from but he isn't a serial failure, more of a strange character. He resigned from a Lazio job after 2 days and was sued for 50 million euros. He left the Chile job because of someone they appointed to the Board and conspiracies over his character.

As soon as Rico picked up a yellow they put Adama straight on him, he had to be careful. Not like he had much chance getting forwards when we had 10 men.
Seems a bit harsh, I was told he rolled his ankle after the very first attack from Traore in the second half and never recovered, the reason for being subbed plus the yellow. He would have to be in top form against Traore and with an ankle injury was always going to lose that battle. I personally think he should of came off much sooner after he rolled his ankle, especially against a fast player.
Traore caused everyone problems, I'm more concerned with his attacking output, we got into some good positions on the left and he struggled to get any decent balls in. Someone above said he may have turned his ankle early which would prob explain that. He was getting berated by Janelt I think at one point for not making an overlap.
Maybe I was watching another game as has been suggested - but I have the impression he didn't do too much when he was playing against men in red and white stripes on the left before being switched - and a young Mads R didn't do too badly against him either.
He beat his man every single time, Roerslev and Rico.... As I say not to say either did badly, he’s just unstoppable at times

Mads is the one who got completely skinned leaving a free cross for Adama to find Raul who headed their best chance wide. Every defender struggles against his pace.
Sergi v Salah
I think he deserves the credit for his thinking about the game which is cited by Guardiola, Klopp et al as being a massive influence. His methods of analysis of his team and opponents is as groundbreaking as BFC’s use of stats. I think the difference between Bielsa and the more successful managers he’s had following him is that they combine the footballing approach with being less obviously curmudgeonly and uncompromising at a personal level with players and clubs. So while he’s the supreme theoretician he is somewhat hampered by his absolute absence of any soft skills.
I think previously he's always had his pace to fall back on, whereas that's not so much of an exception at this level..
Exactly my thoughts, this is what it's all about keeping clean sheets at this level and hope the strikers can do there magic which they have done brilliantly so far. When you look at the statistics against Wolves NO SHOTS ON TARGET wow wow wow, what an achievement from all our players including Rico and Sergi. However with the quality of the opposition at this level, has left our wingbacks becoming more defensive, which worries me a bit going forward due to Toney not getting any service from the wings.
It puts a premium on the quality and consistency of decision making and crossing from the WBs in their rarer chances to go forward. And Pinnock and Ajer as they seem to be given the freedom to do those runs as players not cut out by opposing WBs/FBs with Rico and Sergi tucking in to cover. We will also probably see Bryan or Ivan down the wings more often as we did for the second at Wolves.
Mr Rico Grudge. You will always need pace at this level fact. Let's just give our Premiership virgins a chance to adapt to the highest level of football in the world, after all, 2 goals against us in 5 games at the highest level is anything but sh*te, Rico has played his part just has all the players have. If any of our players were at a standard of what we expect them to be, they wouldn't be at Brentford and be worth £100M, nevertheless saying that, this might be the case come end of the season. At this present time these are Championship players learning their trade at a level where each will be punished while learning, therefore our jobs as fans is to keep them confident like we do at the games and sing our heart's out.
