So, they have a spare 500K floating around, waiting to be spent, I presume?
I think that underestimates West Ham. I am sure they would throw in a few bags of crisps and Mr Sullivan might be able to offer a nice little discount on some sex aids

With Leicester's Ben Chilwell heavily linked with a move to Chelsea, I could see the Foxes taking a long hard look at Rico...

Love Rico but he's Premier League quality and deserves to earn PL money for a few years. Suspect we'll be underwhelmed by his price tag a la Romaine.

Any reason for that?

Romaine was older and had one year remaining on his contract.

If Chillwell is gonna go for circa 60-80 million ( ridiculous ) then Rico is min 15 million but we won’t get that I’m sure. We’d do well to get 10 million.

We are not a social enterprise helping young men achieve their dreams. It’s a business, we take the investment risk of longer contracts with the expectation that if the bet works out we will make a significant return. Rico is young, hugely talented and a rare commodity. Pay up will be the message a la Konsa.

We paid what at the time was our record transfer of 5M so we are not going to let one of the best current English left backs go on the cheap when he has 3 odd years left on his contract.

Konsa had a release clause. Hopefully Rico doesn’t.

Saw a tweet suggesting we are in contract talks with Henry to persuade him to stay. Can't find it now but will see if I can fish it out..

Our system of signing players, and if we aren’t in the P/L should a Premier League team come in for them AND meet our valuation. We accept, wish them well and let them go.

It appears to need adjusting, this window it is feasible that 6 players could go even with Covid lowering fees being paid. Being able to find replacements though difficult is just part of the problem, we no longer can get these new signings at a reasonable price. Because it is us, we have to pay a premium. Ivan Toney at 6.5M/10M is not cheap by any means, yes there is still a decent chance of it being a good investment.
Getting the replacements to gel will take many games, and results will suffer like last year. We may have learnt from that experience but it wont be easy. Increasing our valuation of new signings seems vital to slow the numbers departing.
We could be in a repeating problem each transfer window, I hope not

There is absolutely zero chance of us selling six players, if we are talking about the first team. Why would we?

Because when we signed them it was on the agreement that if a P/L club came for them and met the valuation we would let them leave. Just like Maupay. Hopefully they arent all on the same type of contract, but they could be

Correct.

Well, unless we are offered complete and utter barmy money.

I do believe that was the case for Neal Maupay, i read, saw or heard this last summer. It wasnt in here, I wasnt a member then. On the news or in the FB group “Bees Fan Forum”, I dont think the Loyal group existed then. It made sense to me. Annoying that I cannot find it using google search now

So please think of my comment as possible but no more.

I don’t expect there is any written agreement but it has been mentioned many times that one of the attractions of the club and one of the things we sell to players when they join is that we won’t stand in there way should the big offer come in. I think some of replies to HB above have been a bit harsh.

It may not be the case but I have certainly seen it suggested many times.

I do think that we get to the point where only a couple will go and others have to stay which could frustrate unsettle some players.

Tricky time the old transfer window.

Rico's the one player I really don't want to leave. Accepted that OW and SB are off, but we will replace with equally as good if not better, but it will be hard to find a better left back than Rico.

I was hoping Dominic Thompson would be more of a challenge to be honest.

Old Malden, actually......
Been told four players will be leaving BMW and one other
The world and his wife know that Ollie and Said are leaving. They have reached peak value. Its in both their interests and ours to sell. But unless we receive an offer of silly money the club do not expect Mbuemo to go. That's based not on any inside knowledge but the fact that he hasn't yet reached peak value - he has another year of growth to go - and unlike the other two he has played a prominent role in pre season, including appearing in the Derby friendly and playing a leading role in the kit reveal promotion.

I'm less certain about Rico but he too played against Derby which would suggest that at the very least it remains a possibility that we'll get to keep him for another year.

I do not disagree with your interpretation of the Brentford system of signing players, however, I do take an alternative view in respect of the idea that we are now obliged to pay a premium. Whilst Peterborough are an exception, being similar to us in how they seek a profit on transfer dealings, that is currently not the case in general. We are in the fortunate position of being able to spend money whilst most clubs in the midst of this Covid crisis are seeking to raise money in order to survive. Accordingly there will be many fire sales where clubs are desperate to sell so consequently there will be many bargains about.

if ( and it is an if) three or more first team regulars leave it will, again, take time to bed-in their replacements - like last season.

but it goes with the club's model.

and it goes with the territory that the cyber knives will be out if we have another slow start.

i hope we keep all our key players including rico- but of course we wont be able to do so.
