I was really sad to hear this, had a bad night sleep last night.
I had a pint with Matt outside the Kings Arms a few weeks ago.
A charming, loveable fella who was great to be around.

Matt was one of best friends at school, we were in a minority of a handful of Bees fans in our year fighting the good fight when times were dark at GP (you youngsters have no idea!). He was like a brother to me for years and I’ve Been through a lot with him, recently time, distance and stupidity separated us and I wish I could turn the clock back and make changes to our recent years but that will never happen now. Lesson is reconciliation is better than wasted emotion.

One of my earliest Bees (away) memories was staying up all night (tube till 2am then snooker club sofa) to be able to travel to Tranmere away on a mini bus with some very good Bees fans. We predictably lost but hey ho the passion for away days for ignited...!

His user name came from a Reading away game, Boxing Day (yes we lost 1-0 in a game you couldn’t see the end of the pitch - Trevor bleeding Senior) taxi each way (we were stupid!) when he was led astray by the same older loyal fans and consumed too many burgers than should have been humanly possibly in a 30 minute period to ‘sober up’ (fair to say his drinking prowess was not correlated to his size )...

Ironically he moved to reading but remained a Bees fan and ensured his family knew what side of the bread should be buttered football wise . His boys are some of the nicest people in the world and a real legacy for him. They’ll do you proud big fella.

Anyway, times are tough for you all but trust me anything you might be able to spare at this time would be gratefully received and appreciated. Matt would ‘give’ whatever he could in life and I hope some of that can be repaid by others in death.

RIP Hamburger Hill. Sorry mate.

RIP Matthew, he was a smashing bloke who always had a smile on his face and loved chatting away in the Braemar rd forecourt about anything Bees related. The awaydays in John Allens Pony Express van going up and down motorways with Matt will always be remembered by me, and everyone else who came with us. Condolences to his family at this sad time

Jesus just put face to a name. I worked with Matty back in the early 90’s in Twickenham and regularly saw him at games and we always stopped and had a chat.
He was a really nice guy when I worked with him and was whenever I spoke to him +20 years on.

Hi All

Thank you for all your kind words about him, he did love to chat and whenever we got to Brentford we would always take the piss about how every 5 seconds he would stop and talk to everyone! I can see why now, he has had an impact on everyone that he seems to hae come across.
I am glad that he chose to take us to Brentford, it is such a lovely club. He would always speak about the good ol' days and the sh*t we didn't have to endure when he started going in the late 70s. He would always tell the story that after his first game (8-2 Win v Hull at Griffin Park) that someone told him that it isn't like this every week, boy how wrong were they. He saw 3 promotions, cup runs to Anfield, drawing with the European Champions Chelsea, beating Everton on penalties and I am glad that he got to see Brentford at Griffin Park before it goes, we are the lucky ones that get too see this club on the up.


He'll be sorely missed by everyone and we as a family appericate the well wishes and love from all those on Twitter, the GPG and on the GoFundMe <3

Hello everybody,

Because of all the kindness shown to us, we feel we should say something.

The past few days our world has fell apart and we are all devastated and broken, which I’m not sure we will ever recover from. Matt was our everything, we were very lucky because he chose to love us everyday, he gave the best hugs and all we need right now is one of those hugs.
We have been married for 23 wonderful years, he was my soul mate and he gave me the most amazing gifts of four carbon copies of himself, they are the kindest, most thoughtful, loving, caring people you would ever meet, just like Matt and I couldn’t be prouder.

People will soon say this year has been awful covered in darkness and sadness. And at times they will be right...but Matt always said the stars shine brighter on the darkest night and through the past few days, with all your messages, visits, dinners, calls and the go fund me page etc you have all sprinkled us with light and made the darkness not so dark, covering us all in love and kindness. So with my diagnosis, treatment and Matt leaving us, yes it’s dark and painful, but we have never experienced so much love, hope and kindness in our entire lives. And that makes us love Matt and everybody just a little bit more.

Matt was an amazing man to all, we are overwhelmed by how much he affected peoples lives, and myself and our babies could not be prouder of the man he was to everyone. Maybe we should all be just a little more Matt?

I can not thank you all enough for your support, whether it be a message on the GPG, or text, call, email or visit, you are getting us through and making us smile with your memories of him.

He was so special to us and I’m not sure how life goes on without him holding our hands, but with your help we will take little steps.

Thank you all, you really will have no idea the difference you are making and getting us through these difficult weeks. Whilst I have to continue treatment for the next 4 weeks, which is incredibly hard without Matt, I will sit and read your messages and it will feel like Matt and everyone who knew him are holding my hand.

Keep sprinkling the love and kindness everywhere you go.

Thank you sincerely from the bottom of our hearts. You have all astounded us and we will be forever grateful.
