i think so yes to an extent, Sawyers played his best football with us and we enhanced his career substantially. If u have respect u don’t celebrate imo there’s no hate towards him only love so why try ruin that

Not really. But I appreciate the gesture in him not celebrating.
There was a moment in the second half when one of Stoke's centre backs pulled off a move and I thought "That was so Romaine Sawyers".
Then I thought "Oh yeah, he plays for Stoke now, and other teams do seem to waste his talents playing him too deep."

TBH.........If I were to choose between Sawyers and Jenson tonight, it would be Romaine, some of his passing and his goal were fantastic, just wish with Mathias,he would concentrate more,sometimes he can be very frustrating.

I love Romanie. But f*** that. Hes scored a goal its important. He should celebrate.
This no celebrating just because you used to play for a club is b***ocks.
Be respectful before and after the game. Respect the rules during it. But its a game you want to win. Celeberate when it goes your way.

TBH i think Jensen would have probably got a similar review had they been on other teams. They are both very similar players and their calmness often gets mistaken for being languid.
Im a fan of both.

No-one celebrates a goal that brings it back to 1-2 … and if he had there would be loads getting on his case for being disrespectful
At the time he left Brentford definitely…I don’t think his game would have deteriorated that much since he left. He was never the quickest, his passing was up there with the best, moved the ball quicker than Jenson does, more of a goal threat (albeit not much) and was no worse defensively. The question would be weather he can get around the pitch as much as Jenson does..although on that front the bar is not set overly high.

The sensible ones have seen what we did and neither Stoke nor WBA have and that is that he’s wasted and not very effective as a defensive midfielder but can pull the strings as an attacking one.

Never a Premier League player in a million years. Fantastic to watch in the Championship but oozing quality doesn’t cut it at the top level. He’s tried it once and it didn’t work for him, even before Allardyce sidelined him because he wouldn’t hoof the ball aimlessly.
The Premier League requires a vastly different type of midfielder, as we have shown this season. I know some will say that Sawyers and Jensen are similar, but they’re not in as much as, whether people like to see it or not, Jensen puts in a work rate to match anyone else. Sawyers doesn’t have that in his game.
Sawyers was lovely to watch, but he’s definitely in the past for us and that’s where he’ll stay (probably at Birmingham City next season).

Fair enough but two things:
1/ As is well known he was played for most of his time in the Prem in the wrong position. Sitting in front of Norgaard and Janelt is where we would play him.
2/ Do we know whether his stats while with us support your view on work rate? Sure he looks languid but perception can be misleading.

The fact he didn't celebrate is entirely down to him. He chose not to celebrate, and for that, I am impressed. Had he chosen to celebrate, then I would unlikely to have been that bothered unless he decided to sprint over to our fans and kiss his badge, or something along those lines.

I don't see it like that. He is rarely hustled off the ball, makes space effectively and has great passing vision. I don't believe his work rate was low, be interested to see the stats. But yes, I doubt we'll see home in a Bees shirt again.

I remember being surprised at how he seemed always to be in the action and whole he may have languidly teleported round the pitch I think it’s more likely that we worked immensely hard to get around. I think rather too many fans equate “getting stuck in” and “busting a gut” with hard work so Woods would always seem to be doing more (that plus his unusual running style and ginger hair making him stand out in the visual field).
As my mother would have said, pearls before swine. I'd love Romaine to be somewhere that I felt he was appreciated.

It’s an interesting debate. If you look at two other players, albeit much younger, a few years ago we brought in Jaakko Oksanen who was seen as being a fantastic prospect as a defensive midfielder. He also made space effectively and had great passing and vision. He certainly didn’t lack a work-rate but his game was far more about the aforesaid attributes.
He‘s been moved on (and almost certainly won’t be back) and now we have Bidstrup as the starlet in that position. He can do all the things Oksanen did (and better, of course), but he’s also got a tremendous engine and a will to close down and press.
The point I’m trying to make is that I think we’ve moved on to a different type of midfielder.

I wouldn’t want three Onyekas in midfield (three Norgaards would be acceptable though)
