He's 30 next birthday and has a contract with WBA until July 2022. Can't see him moving anywhere unless Albion pay him a sizeable wedge in return for ending his contract. A loan might be feasible but Albion would probably still have to cough up half of his wages. WBA have always struck me as a charmless club so I don't blame him if he carries on trousering the salary and if Sam doesn't fancy him as a player, so what?

West Brom contact police over racist message sent to Sawyers
West Brom midfielder Romaine Sawyers was the recipient of a racist message on social media - the club have taken action.
Here's their statement:
"West Brom has today contacted West Midlands Police to report a racist message sent to Romaine Sawyers on social media.
"Everyone at the club is appalled by the abhorrent message which was sent during Tuesday’s Premier League fixture against Manchester City.
"The club has a proud history of confronting all forms of discrimination and will assist the authorities with their inquiries, seeking the toughest available legal punishment, as well as a lifetime ban from The Hawthorns for the individual responsible.
"Albion will offer Romaine the relevant support required at this time and continues with its long-standing commitment to help rid football of racism."

That’s fkin sad. Imagine being such a c**t that you go out of your way to send a racist message to a player on social media. Just imagine being that person for a minute. Romaine you’re always welcome here.
Bunch of w***ers up there Romaine, one of the best players i have seen at Brentford

I watched the highlights of the Man City performance and he looked pretty Poor.
Very possibly he was being targeted in the dressing room and elsewhere and this was weighing on his mind.

RS hasn't suddenly become a bad player. Not too late to make WBA an offer.

I saw the tweets on Tuesday night and it was truly awful. However, to be abused and also bring race into it is absolutely shocking. If it turns out to be a West Brom fan and their history of welcoming black players, I can imagine the older supporters in particular would be livid. Cyrille Regis is a legend up there.

I can think of lots of names for him but fan is not one of them.

Romaine Sawyers will always be one of my favourite Bees players. When he found his feet with us he delivered the quality he posseses game after game. Was a pleasure to watch. One of my favourite moments was his pirouette on the edge of our box against Leeds followed by a beautiful pass to Canos who took on all comers and narrowly missed dribbling round the goalkeeper for a wonder goal. I always thought Bilic was patronising in the extreme in his assessment of Sawyers in our team. Truth is with good management, trust and support, a player like Romaine will flourish. Emotional attachment aside West Brom is a poor fit.

Sadly these dregs are always there. Like the guy sending abusive messages when Fabrice Muamba had a heart attack on the pitch.

I can understand why West Brom fans don't rate him, there were Bees fans that felt the same.

It's his laid back attitude that can give that don't care impression, but I can't remember him having a really bad game for us.

Probably a person who is as thick as a plank, that thinks life owes him a living. I thought racism was a thing of the past. I am utterly amazed that this sh*t keeps rearing its ugly head. I just do not understand it, there are so many good black players in our leagues. I am getting the feeling that you just cannot educate some morons.

Oh come on! It never will be, sorry to say. And I do not mean this in any disrespectful way towards you. Whether or not a black player is great or absolute cack is not the issue.

Horrible racism aside, Romaine must be really sad that his dream move has worked out so poorly. Awful fans and a Neanderthal manager - he needs to be loved and he wont get that at WBA

He was a key part of their promotion and played for his childhood team many times in the Premiership. Could have gone worse...

I think it was a good move for him,a decent contract and probably back at his level next year in the Championship.Hopefully set him up financially, and good luck to him.

I could be wrong, but I've always thought that Romaine was a bit of a 'confidence' player. If he knows he has the faith of the teammates around him and the faith of the manager he flourishes. But if he doubts that he starts second guessing and hesitating, and suddenly all his qualities disappear. WBA might be a truly toxic atmosphere right night, which is having a real effect on his game.

Imagine being 49 and going online and typing racist abuse. What a vile individual.
Fully agree. It's too easy for these disgusting individuals to do this sort of thing via their phone or computer, thinking they won't be caught. More of these cases need to end in convictions, the platform owners need to do more, and the sentencing needs to be made tougher. Higher fines and prison sentences need to be introduced/made tougher. Until we are able to do this it will continue. Let's name and shame these people.

I think he’d be an upgrade on Jenson (I rate Jenson but think Sawyers, on form, is unplayable) in the playmaker role to unlock ‘two banks of four’

Could also play in front of Norgaard and Janelt at tough away games with the two of them breaking up play and running the midfield whilst Sawyers feeds the front three.

Clearly can’t happen now and was probably never realistic but a pool of Da Silva, Jenson, Norgaard, Janelt, Sawyers and Marcondes would be unstoppable in this league.

Emiliano would struggle to get any time with that much quality in front of him.

Back in the starting line up for West Brom after having to suffer racial abuse on social media.

Good luck Romaine. 👍👍
