Sorry for this but need to let it out.Just had some photos from his ex wife. It had been a bad dream up until now but the photos made me cry lots as I realised it was all real..
We are all with you. He was a lovely guy and I have nothing but fond memories of him.

He always loved to tell the story about first time he met Bernie. Bernie comes bellowing down a train "Hoose ya favrite football team.." and Roy, calm and gentlemanly "Well, its the same as you actually..." Which I think threw Bernie somewhat lol And from there a wonderful friendship was born.

They were always together at away games in the 1990s. Roy usually being the one to calm Bernie down. I was very young but remember them.

first time I ever met them both was Saturday 12th August 1995. York City 2 v 2 Bees. I tried to keep up with B&R as a 17 almost 18 year old and to say I came unstuck was an understatement. I can still see Jamie Bates pointing and laughing at me throwing up as the team coach went by. But they both looked after me very well and were ever present doing the same for a number of years after. He loved Roy Orbison, not sure why I remember that!

sorry again rodders, no good time for it but even worse with this blasted pandemic making everything that much harder :(

I Have heard that Roy will be cremated tomorrow about 7am uk time. Roy was known locally as "P ROY" and I have asked that a Brentford Shirt which I sent him with this on Back be cremated with him. I have been sent a load of photos of the flowers and arrangements that have been made, and they are really giving a good send off.

I would like to share with you some words that I have asked to be read out at my brothers funeral:

"I am still finding it difficult to believe that I will never see my brother again or speak to him on the phone. Roy did not have a very happy life in England and I am so glad that he found love and happiness in Thailand with Ann who I know he loved deeply, and also the many people in Ban Paha who cared for him and welcomed him into their community, he mentioned many of you when we spoke on the phone, thank you all so much for making him happy and content

I am 7 years older than Roy and though our father was a decent, kind and caring man, he found it difficult to do the things that fathers should do with sons. So it was me who bought Roy his first Cricket Bat,Football and Train Set,and took him to his first Football match

I am glad and grateful that he is today surrounded by those that loved and cared for him. I am thinking of him now and t things we did and shared together as boys .

Cherished Memories Au Revoir"

Rest in peace the legend that is Roy. Like many others, I have fond memories of him and Bernie following the bees over land and sea. Lovely words Rodders. Be strong my friend.

RIP Roy.
So very sorry to read this sad news. Sat here thinking of fond memories of going to away games all those years ago, (usually by train) , good mates, alcohol, laughs aplenty especially if Roy and Bernie were involved. A real larger than life character. God bless.

That memory always makes me chuckle.
Bernie, Roy and myself clapping and waving at the team coach, and all the players pointing and laughing at you.

Roy was a lovely, gentle man, who liked to have fun. The perfect match for Bernie.
RIP

At the moment as the last thing I can do for my brother is ensure that his Thai widow gets everything she is entitled to in terms of work and state pension. Whilst in many ways I have sympathy with DHSS and Local Govt Pension scheme, they do not seem to fully appreciate the difficulties with a Thai wife in Thailand who speaks pidgin English but can't read or write it. Have been sent a shed load of forms which both parties despite the above insist that his widow completes, made even worse as due to the unusual circumstances ask largely irrelevant questions such as wife Nat Ins number, and insist all forms be translated from Thai to English and be officially verified by Embassy in Bangkok. I do know something about pensions having obtained Advanced Financial Planning Cert in the subject , but I see a long and arduous road ahead ,

Thanks for your suggestion and interest, as it happens I am pretty good on pensions as that was my job.Just trying to avoid some unnecessary toing and froing.

so sorry and shocked to hear this. Roy and Bernie were legends of a lovely fun time. Ladt time I saw Roy was outside T3 at Heathrow and we had a lovely chat. It was only then I realised he had gone to Thailand. He still was very emotional over Bernie. Just sitting here thinking what a wonderful bar table chat wojld be had with Bernie,Roy,Gary Kentish and Ron Jacobs around it. RIP Roy

It may interest some that I have been able to get a widows pension for Roys Thai wife which I am pleased about.

I know there are many equally deserving cases and I do not want to upset anybody. I suggested to the club that at the new ground they may have a plaque in the bar in memory of Roy & Bernie. Got quite a nice reply but they did not seem to know who they were. Perhaps I am being over sentimental!!

Who replied to you?

I would recommend that you go via BIAS and @hobbsy

If you have a picture of them both then even better.

Reply from Chris Wickham who then passed it to Sally Stephens. I do not have a picture of them both together . Only met Bernie once when he came to my mothers funeral.

Look Mori and Rodders be realistic. I've been going to games nearly 60 years. Loads away. I have no idea who Bernie and Roy were - never met them. Wouldn't know who they were from Adam. I'm sorry they've both gone and feel for you Roy - well done with the pension! But the club really cant go around remembering every supporter. My Dad watched through the 30's 40's 50's 60's 70's 80's 90's 00's. Thousands of others too the same. They can't remember them all. Sorry but just being realistic.
