As it’s a loan until January is RW not technically still a Brentford player?

Just what I thought. However, it seems that "loan" doesn't always mean what it implies. Perhaps the loan fee paid is so substantial that Stoke wouldn't renege on the deal.

Best of luck Ryan. Don't worry you'll get a better gaffer soon once Rowett is given the tin tack

For those who missed it because a new thread was started.
Mick Woods rang to say all gone through and a good deal to a big club and less than half hour from Ryan’s home to the ground. His Mrs is due in September so happy but upset he didn’t get a chance to say a proper goodbye and thank you to everyone at Brentford as a very happy time for him.

Mick and Corrine were hoping he’d stay and get promoted with us but totally understand why we’ve sold him and why he was happy to move for a fantastic deal.

Mick had already confirmed he’s going to book his room at the Novatel and is looking to arrange lunch and a few beers with some of his “muckers”!that he got to know in the last years and said to say thanks to everyone for making him and family feel so welcome.

The Woods' family showing their typical class. Sorry to see him leave, a fantastic player for our club. Good luck, Ryan.

...upset he didn’t get a chance to say a proper goodbye and thank you to everyone.

I'm not criticising Woods particularly but it always amuses me when I hear that from players. What was he going to do? Go round every supporter and shake hands? Or stand on the centre spot with a microphone singing 'So long, farewell...'?

Every time the players walk round the pitch at the end of a game to receive their applause, it's either well done, thanks or cheerio. What else is there to be done?

His old man just mentioned he’d like to have said some goodbyes in person to people he’d got to know, you’re a real killjoy sometimes! lol

Excellent player for us. Always very likely he would go. A good move for him. Those who've been saying he won't be that much of a loss are fooling themselves. But we will get other good players in and move on.

Probably in my top ten favourite players since I've been following Brentford.

I like the idea of him driving round the pitch in a golf buggy lobbing bundles of cash into the crowd. Maybe sonofabee can mentioning it to Mick Woods...

Glad the move is now sorted and relieved we don’t have to have sonofabee bang on about Ryan’s dad anymore :fishing:

Woods probably one of the best technical player I have seen in a red and white shirt. I would never begrudge him a big fat pay day (especially after what he went through last year) and we as a football club were fortunate to have him for three years.

Thanks for everything Ryan - can only wish you the best.

Loved the guy, glad he’s gone as imo he was only going to be a distraction whilst he remained. Mr Consistent and now we risk our season on a player with huge potential from Arsenal and 4 others with loads to prove, bring it on.

Loved him from the first time I saw him play, good luck to him and will one of the few to get a good welcome when he returns to GP, but unfortunately in the wrong red and white stripes.
Makes perfect sense from a family / home / father to be perspective and understand why he has gone to a much bigger club, who will reward him financially and hopefully prosper and move on to better things in the future.

Can we recall him him as its only a loan if needed.

Yes and we can also get him to bring his new best mate if he wants to. Stoke by the same rules can give him back and get compensation if he isn’t voted MOM in at least half the games.

This I dont get. Stand by for abuse. We recalled Reece from the wurzels for "lack of game time". If all this is above board why are Stoke loaning but not buying befoe Aug 9th.

Woods leaving does not risk our season - far from it.

Because of a loophole but for loan read transfer. He is their player now and they have to buy him officially in Jan. it will not be allowed to happen again.

Absolutely, there’s no logic to that.

Good luck to Ryan and his family. Hope he’ll make Stoke fans happy as he did with most of ours. Unfortunately i didn’t quite get him.

Not sure how it will work out alongside Allen. Will be interesting

No it doesn’t. But it does place significant pressure on Josh to stay injury free and maintain his early season performance levels, and on Kamo and Nico to keep their promising starts going too. We’ll lack creativity otherwise.

Seriously what? lol

I don’t get him and i can’t see how it will work out alongside Allen. How do you see it working out? Get real and start supporting our players who will take us to the playoffs. Woods didn’t, he’s history. Everything is good, we have a great squad and a brilliant coaching team.

Eventually you’ll just have to accept that despite “not getting him” virtually everyone else did, including opposition fans and the managers of several clubs who’ve tried to sign him.

I’m happy with who we have left but they have big shoes to fill.

You know exactly what I meant. You couldn't resist a final dig (actually not a final one - "Get real and start supporting our players who will take us to the playoffs. Woods didn’t, he’s history").

I'm not going to bother interacting with you any further. Yes, I know...boo hoo...

Sleep well tonight wrapped up in your Josh McE duvet listening to your Carlo Ancelotti whale music tape.

I am not sure he meant any dig - just what probably many feel how will it work playing alongside Allen. A fair question in my book.

If he hadn't prefaced it with "Hope he’ll make Stoke fans happy as he did with most of ours. Unfortunately i didn’t quite get him" along with his endless spouting on the Josh McE thread, I may have given him the benefit of the doubt but no, he decided to continue with his myopic fanboy postings.

I don't think he gives a toss as to how well Woods will play alongside Allen and, frankly, I don't think many of us do either.

This was his last chance to snipe at a player he saw as a competitor to his Golden Boy.

I don’t have to accept anything. As i said three years ago, the premier league won’t get him. None have made an offer. Woods was committed to us and i massively appreciated that. I preferred Josh. It’s my opinion. We are doing very well without Woods, i feel positive. I’m genuinely interested how it will work out because i ultimately feel Woods should play in Allen’s position, as i’ve said countless times on here. Not alongside him though.

:backtotopic:

I wish the fella all the best at his new club. He was a favourite for most of our fans. A gifted player that most opposition fans mentioned as a player they would love to have.

I'll miss him for a lot of reasons. The main one being that, with my fading eyesight, it was easy to spot him with his ginger mop.

Best of luck, Ryan. I hope it all works out well for you and your family.

There was Villa and again today which were games just made for Ryan to take by the scruff and maybe, just maybe if he’d played we may have snuck a better result.

As others have said - a firm fan favourite from the beginning given his all round play and effort. Hard to believe we won’t miss him this season - I think he’s worth a few extra points in the shake up.

But I wish him well, especially in his private life with a new baby on the way.

I said after the Sheffield United game last year maybe Woods hinders our play - I was ridiculed at the time but today was our first loss without him in our team and we won 5 drawn 2 and lost 1. I honestly wish him well and he is a class act but not as big a loss as many make out. From what I have seen only two teams (both relegated from the Premiership) made an effort to sign him and one wouldn't pay our asking rate.

Disappointing that we have loaned one of our best players to one of our rivals dont make sense guess they are paying a large loan fee looking forward to seeing him back at gp in jan 2019

Are you on a wind up?

It’s a loan in name only but in reality he has gone for good as it’s a loophole that means they can take him now on loan but are obliged to complete a transfer in the window at the fee agreed. There is no get out regardless of what happens between now and then.

Stoke were bigged up as a title winning team before the season and we are only 5 games into a new managers reign so wouldn’t rule them out yet, especially for top 6.

For Woods it’s an opportunity to join a big club half an hour from home on (probably) triple the salary. All that a month before his baby is due. Can’t argue with that motive, especially given he’s been very lucky with being injury-free and one dodgy challenge could wipe out that big chance like it did with AJ.

For Brentford, it’s a chance to get £7m for a player who wants out and has a year left on his contract. Listening to Giles we’ve known he was leaving this summer for a long while so he obviously believes that we are fully prepared.

All in all, a good move for both parties and I think the ‘moving for the money’ and ‘Stoke are terrible’ talk is a bit of a nonsense.

The one thing I would echo is that Malaga is right about one thing - he’s not a solid Premier League player. He could probably do a job as cover at a bottom half club but he’d get a bit found out at that level for me.
